Campus Access for Powered Wireless Endpoints

MS355-48X-HW combines 16 multigigabit copper connections with 32 Gigabit Ethernet connections in a managed Layer 3 access switch. The multigigabit ports negotiate 100M, 1G, 2.5G, 5G or 10G for wireless access points, servers and workstations, while UPoE supports powered endpoints. Fixed uplinks provide four 10G SFP+ connections or two 40G QSFP+ connections without a removable uplink-card dependency. The Meraki MS355 occupies one rack unit and serves enterprise and campus access networks. The discontinued MS355-48X2-HW increases multigigabit density to 24 ports; this configuration retains more conventional Gigabit connections for mixed endpoint populations. Select the uplink connection format before specifying compatible optics and fiber.

MS355-48X-HW price for new stock is $2,229.15. MS355-48X-HW refurb price is $784.35. MS355-48X-HW is in stock and available for next-day dispatch. (terms applied)

Technical Details

544 Gbps switching capacity supports traffic aggregation across the mixed-speed access connections, while 405 Mpps forwarding capacity handles packet processing. 740W of shared endpoint power is available with the included MA-PWR-1025WAC; combined-power operation raises that allocation to 1480W. Static routing and OSPFv2 support routed access, including 16 ECMP routes, while PIM-ASM provides multicast routing and VRRP supports warm spare operation. MS355-48X-HW maintains 32000 MAC entries, and support for 4094 VLANs accommodates segmented access configurations. STP and RSTP provide loop-control mechanisms, with BPDU guard and root guard available for access-port protection. Physical stacking supplies 400 Gbps of stack bandwidth for an eight-member system. Three MA-FAN-18K fans provide variable-speed cooling within the 0°C to 45°C operating range. Full consumption reaches 1760W in combined-power operation, a dual-supply figure to use when sizing cabinet power.

Ordering

Specify MS355-48X-HW in new sealed or certified refurbished condition, with quantity and accessories confirmed on the PO. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested, including rated-speed port links and PoE output under load on every powered port, with firmware verified and configuration wiped to factory default. ORM provides up to 3-year extended warranty on new hardware, up to 1 year on certified refurbished hardware and 30-day returns on every condition, terms apply; Cisco's nontransferable lifetime hardware warranty for eligible first purchasers ends August 8, 2030. For enterprise and volume orders, POs are accepted, Net-30 is available for government, and RMA with advance replacement is supported, with regional stock and RMA coverage across the UK, EU, US and MEA.

Buying Notes

Buying NotesKey Specs

Separate cloud license required

MS355-48X-HW requires a separate Meraki Enterprise license rather than a perpetual network entitlement. License terms start at one year; include the required entitlement separately when specifying either ORM condition.

Support deadline limits renewal

MS355-48X-HW reached end of sale on August 8, 2025. Plan migration to C9300X-48HX-M before Cisco support ends August 8, 2030, and align remaining license purchases with that deadline.

Shared power needs sizing

Endpoint demand requires allocation: 48 × 60W = 2880W exceeds the shared budget. Order another MA-PWR-1025WAC for combined-power operation; supply failure reduces available endpoint power to the redundant-mode allocation.

Stack cables ordered separately

Physical stack connections require MA-CBL-100G-50CM, MA-CBL-100G-1M or MA-CBL-100G-3M cables. Match each cable length to rack spacing and include the required cable quantities on the purchase order.

Best For

Multi-Site Configuration Standardization

When standardizing several locations under one operating process, configuration templates provide a common starting point for ports and site auditing. The Meraki MS355 uses centralized dashboard configuration rather than a conventional command-line workflow; specify organization access, administrative roles and provisioning ownership before issuing the purchase order.

Routed Access Replacement

When a routed access replacement must preserve a separate warm-spare design, the routing and failover choices need to be settled together. OSPF and warm spare cannot operate concurrently on this hardware. Specify the intended routing mode and failover arrangement before approving the purchase order.

Application Acceptance Testing

When an application rollout depends on larger Ethernet frames, the 9600-byte frame limit sets a concrete staging check. Remote packet capture and cable diagnostics support predeployment investigation; define the planned frame size, capture access and acceptance tests before finalizing the hardware purchase order.

Not Suitable If

More than sixteen multigigabit endpoints

Only 16 access ports support multigigabit speeds. C9300X-48HX-M provides 48 multigigabit access ports and is the current replacement for the discontinued MS355 hardware.

Conventional local command-line configuration

MS355-48X-HW uses web-based Meraki dashboard configuration rather than a conventional switch CLI. A command-line operating model is not available for switch configuration or port management.

Sixty watts on every port

The 1480W combined-power ceiling cannot supply 60W simultaneously across all 48 access ports. Endpoint power must remain within the shared allocation, including the reduced allocation after supply failure.

Questions & Answers

What does each part of MS355-48X-HW mean?

MS355-48X-HW identifies MS355 switch hardware with 48 copper access ports, including 16 multigigabit ports. MS355 names the series, 48 gives the access-port count, X distinguishes this mixed-speed configuration, and HW identifies the hardware item. The separately purchased Enterprise license is not a perpetual license suffix.

How is MS355-48X-HW managed?

MS355-48X-HW is configured through the web-based Meraki dashboard rather than a conventional CLI. SNMP and SYSLOG integrate monitoring with other systems, while the Meraki mobile app receives alerts. Dashboard access and the required cloud license should be arranged before the hardware is deployed.

What is the lifecycle status of MS355-48X-HW?

MS355-48X-HW is discontinued: end of sale was August 8, 2025, and support ends August 8, 2030. C9300X-48HX-M is the replacement hardware. For an existing installation, align remaining license renewals, replacement planning and the intended service period with that final support deadline.

Which license does MS355-48X-HW require?

MS355-48X-HW uses a separately purchased Meraki Enterprise license, with a minimum one-year term and additional three-, five-, seven- and ten-year terms. The HW item is the hardware, not a perpetual network license. Include the required license with either new or certified refurbished hardware.

How much PoE power does MS355-48X-HW provide?

MS355-48X-HW provides 740W of shared PoE budget with its included MA-PWR-1025WAC and 1480W in combined mode with a second MA-PWR-1025WAC. UPoE supports 60W per powered port, but the shared budget cannot supply that maximum to every access port at the same time.

What uplinks does MS355-48X-HW have?

MS355-48X-HW has fixed uplinks providing four 10G SFP+ connections or two 40G QSFP+ connections. The uplink architecture does not require a removable network module. Select compatible optics and matching fiber for the distribution connection; the dedicated stacking interfaces are separate from these uplinks.

How many Meraki MS355 switches can form a physical stack?

Meraki MS355 physical stacks support eight members with 400 Gbps stacking bandwidth. The dedicated interfaces use MA-CBL-100G-50CM, MA-CBL-100G-1M or MA-CBL-100G-3M cables. Virtual stacking is a separate dashboard management function and does not replace physical stack connections. Specify cable lengths to match the planned rack placement.

Which routing protocols does MS355-48X-HW support?

MS355-48X-HW supports static routing, OSPFv2, PIM-ASM multicast routing and VRRP warm spare. OSPFv2 supports 16 ECMP routes, but OSPF and warm spare do not operate concurrently. DHCP server and DHCP relay are also available; choose the routing and resiliency arrangement before configuring routed access.

Does MS355-48X-HW include redundant power supplies?

MS355-48X-HW includes one MA-PWR-1025WAC; power-supply redundancy requires another MA-PWR-1025WAC ordered separately. The additional MA-PWR-1025WAC can also enable combined-power operation. Redundant and combined modes provide different endpoint-power allocations, so specify the second MA-PWR-1025WAC against the intended operating mode rather than assuming both modes provide the same budget.

What condition and warranty options does ORM Systems offer for MS355-48X-HW?

MS355-48X-HW is offered new sealed or certified refurbished, with ORM warranty of up to three years extended for new hardware or up to one year for refurbished hardware. Returns are 30 days for either condition; terms apply. Cisco's nontransferable lifetime hardware warranty ends August 8, 2030, and does not transfer with secondhand ownership.

What is the difference between MS355-48X-HW and MS355-24X-HW?

MS355-48X-HW supports 1480W of combined-mode PoE, versus 1440W for MS355-24X-HW, giving the former a larger shared dual-supply power allocation. Both models are discontinued. Existing-installation buyers needing the larger allocation should retain the former; the latter suits requirements that remain within its lower combined-power limit.

What is the difference between MS355-48X-HW and MS355-48X2-HW?

MS355-48X2-HW has 24 multigigabit ports, whereas MS355-48X-HW has 16, with both retaining 48 total copper access ports. Both models are discontinued. The original configuration suits installations needing no more than 16 multigigabit connections; the X2 configuration accommodates more multigigabit endpoints within the same overall access-port count.

What is the difference between MS355-48X-HW and C9300X-48HX-M?

C9300X-48HX-M uses modular uplinks, whereas MS355-48X-HW has fixed uplinks; C9300X-48HX-M replaces the discontinued MS355 hardware. Existing-installation buyers may need the older fixed connection arrangement for replacement consistency, while migration buyers should specify the permitted uplink module and compatible optics for the current replacement.

How many VLANs does the Meraki MS355 support?

Meraki MS355 switches support 4094 VLANs with per-port VLAN configuration and VLAN trunking. STP and RSTP provide loop control, while BPDU guard and root guard support access-edge protection. VLAN capacity is separate from routing capacity and should not be treated as a count of routed interfaces.
