SG300-28SFP-K9 is a managed Layer 2+ Gigabit fiber switch with 26 dedicated SFP interfaces and two shared RJ-45/SFP combo uplinks. The fixed interfaces provide 28 active network connections without a removable uplink card. This non-PoE configuration connects fiber-linked switches and independently powered equipment rather than supplying endpoint power. Cisco 300 Series Switches combine VLAN switching with IPv4 static routing for small-business networks, and this model occupies a full-width 1U rack position. Unlike SG300-28PP-K9, the SFP model does not provide PoE+ output. The interface mix matters when replacing an existing unit: matching the total port count alone does not establish copper, fiber or endpoint-power equivalence.

56 Gbps switching capacity provides the switching fabric for the Gigabit interfaces. 41.67 Mpps forwarding rate applies to 64-byte packets, separating packet-processing capacity from bandwidth. Static IPv4 routing supports inter-VLAN gateway configurations. SG300-28SFP-K9 carries 128 MB of DRAM and 16 MB of flash, with an 8 Mb packet buffer shared across the network ports. The MAC address table accommodates 16384 entries, while jumbo-frame support extends to 9216 bytes. STP, RSTP and MSTP control Layer 2 loops; LACP groups compatible links. Management on Cisco Small Business 300 Series Managed Switches includes browser configuration, a scriptable CLI and SNMP monitoring. These administration methods let engineers specify management access independently of the optical media selection. Two fans cool the chassis, and the 0°C to 50°C operating range defines the cabinet environmental limit.
ORM Systems offers SG300-28SFP-K9 new sealed with up to a 3-year extended warranty, or certified refurbished with up to a 1-year warranty; 30-day returns apply to every condition, with terms applying. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on and POST, clean boot, rated-speed links on every port and optics bay recognition, with firmware verified and configuration wiped to factory default. Cisco's original limited lifetime warranty ended with Cisco service on October 31, 2023. Specify the required condition and optics on the purchase order; PO accepted, Net-30 for government, and RMA with advance replacement support enterprise and volume orders.

When an existing small-business network needs separate IP gateways for workgroups, the 128-IP-interface limit defines the interface plan for this model. Allocate gateways and upstream next hops before staging rather than assuming every VLAN needs an interface. Include the intended interface configuration in the purchase-order scope.
When a replacement must be staged before a maintenance window, dual firmware images accommodate an active image and an alternate image on the switch. TFTP or SCP supports image transfer during preparation. Specify the required image, saved configuration and staging scope before the purchase order is released.
When a maintained installation needs a reserve unit rather than a new network design, regional stock and RMA handling across the UK, EU, US and MEA affect the order destination. Specify the receiving region, spare quantity and condition separately from the installed configuration before releasing the purchase order.
10G fiber uplinks to distribution
SG300-28SFP-K9 provides Gigabit SFP connectivity, not 10G uplinks. The direct replacement chain ends with discontinued hardware and no current direct successor.
Endpoint power from network ports
SG300-28SFP-K9 does not deliver PoE or PoE+ to endpoints. Connected equipment must receive power independently; the combo interfaces do not provide a powered-port option.
Active Cisco service coverage
Cisco service for SG300-28SFP-K9 ended on October 31, 2023. The original limited lifetime hardware warranty no longer provides an active Cisco support entitlement.

SG300-28SFP-K9 identifies the Cisco 300 Series Gigabit SFP model with 28 total network ports. SG300 identifies the Gigabit 300-series configuration, 28 is the port total, and SFP identifies the optical variant. Order the complete SG300-28SFP-K9 identifier rather than the shorter SG300-28SFP model name.
Cisco 300 Series Switches are managed through an HTTP/HTTPS web interface, console CLI, SSH or Telnet CLI sessions, and SNMP v1, v2c or v3. Original remote-management integrations included Cisco Small Business FindIT Network and Cisco OnPlus. Specify the intended local management method and administration access policy before staging.
SG300-28SFP-K9 is discontinued, and Cisco service ended on October 31, 2023. The North American replacement was SG350-28SFP-K9-NA, discontinued on July 30, 2022, followed by CBS350-24S-4G-NA, discontinued on May 30, 2024. No current direct successor continues that chain.
SG300-28SFP-K9 is offered new sealed with up to a 3-year extended ORM warranty, or certified refurbished with up to a 1-year ORM warranty. Returns are 30 days on every condition; terms apply. Cisco's original limited lifetime warranty ended with Cisco service on October 31, 2023. Specify the required condition when ordering from ORM Systems.
SG300-28SFP-K9 has 26 dedicated Gigabit SFP ports and two additional SFP interfaces shared with RJ-45 combo ports. Each combo pair permits only one active connection at a time. Select fiber or copper for each shared uplink; the two connectors do not provide two independent links.
Yes, Cisco Small Business 300 Series Managed Switches support IPv4 static routing between VLANs, with limits of 512 static routes and 128 IP interfaces. Routing interfaces can use physical ports, link aggregation groups, VLAN interfaces or loopback interfaces. Define the interface allocation and upstream next hops before preparing the configuration.
MGBSX1 and MGBLX1 are supported Gigabit fiber optics for SG300-28SFP-K9. MGBSX1 uses multimode fiber with a maximum distance of 300 m; MGBLX1 uses single-mode fiber with a maximum distance of 10 km. Match each optic to the installed fiber and the transceiver at the opposite end.
SG300-28PP-K9 supplies PoE+ on 24 copper ports with a 180W shared budget, while SG300-28SFP-K9 supplies no endpoint power. Both models are discontinued. The PoE+ configuration serves powered copper endpoints; the SFP configuration serves fiber aggregation where endpoint power is provided elsewhere.
SG300-10SFP-K9 uses an external AC adapter, while SG300-28SFP-K9 uses an internal AC power supply. Both models are discontinued. The adapter-powered model has eight dedicated SFP ports and two combo ports; the internal-supply model addresses a larger fiber port requirement within a full-width rack chassis.
SRW2048-K9 provides 52 Gigabit network ports, while SG300-28SFP-K9 provides 28. Both models are discontinued. SRW2048-K9 primarily connects copper devices and includes two combo interfaces, whereas the 28-port SFP model primarily connects fiber links. Match the installation's media requirements as well as its port count.
