Fanless Fiber Aggregation With Shared Copper Connectivity

SG300-10SFP-K9-UK is a fanless, managed Gigabit fiber switch combining eight dedicated SFP interfaces with two fixed 1G combo uplinks. Each combo interface supports either its copper connection or its SFP connection, not both simultaneously. The non-PoE desktop configuration provides Layer 2+ functionality for small-business networks that need fiber connections rather than a bank of copper endpoint ports. The Cisco 300 Series includes traffic prioritization, access controls, and VLAN segmentation for separating business traffic. Its uplink architecture is fixed, without a removable network-card bay. The discontinued SG300-28SFP-K9 increases dedicated fiber density to twenty-six interfaces while retaining two combo connections. The SG300-10SFP configuration instead keeps the smaller fiber-port layout and uses an external AC adapter, which should remain part of the equipment plan when selecting a replacement unit.

Technical Details

20 Gbps switching capacity provides wire-speed, nonblocking forwarding across the interfaces. 14.88 Mpps forwarding performance applies to 64-byte packets and provides the small-packet throughput figure for traffic sizing. 512 static IPv4 routes support manually defined forwarding paths; routing interfaces can be assigned to physical ports, link aggregation groups, VLANs, or loopbacks. SG300-10SFP-K9-UK has 128 MB of DRAM and 16 MB of flash for its embedded software and configuration. An 8 Mb aggregate packet buffer dynamically shares storage across the ports. STP/RSTP/MSTP provide spanning-tree operation, while LACP supports grouped links rather than increasing an individual interface's speed. IGMP v1/v2/v3 snooping limits multicast delivery to interested receivers, and the embedded IPv4 DHCP server can serve multiple address pools. 18.1W worst-case consumption provides the switch load for power planning without an endpoint-power allowance. The Gigabit interfaces do not offer a 10G upgrade path through an uplink card.

Ordering

SG300-10SFP-K9-UK is offered new sealed or certified refurbished: new units carry up to a 3-year extended warranty, refurbished units up to 1 year, and every condition includes 30-day returns; terms apply. Refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on and POST, rated-speed port links, optics recognition, clean boot, and rated adapter output; firmware is verified and configuration wiped to factory default. Specify condition and optics on the PO; Cisco's limited lifetime hardware warranty ended October 31, 2023. Enterprise and volume purchases support PO ordering, Net-30 for government, and RMA with advance replacement; regional stock and RMA cover UK, EU, US, and MEA.

Buying Notes

Buying NotesKey Specs

No current migration endpoint

SG300-10SFP-K9-UK buyers cannot treat its old replacement as a current-product upgrade: SG350-10SFP-K9-UK is discontinued, and its successor CBS350-8S-E-2G-UK is also discontinued without a migration product.

Match optics before ordering

SG300-10SFP-K9-UK fiber links require media-matched transceivers; specify MGBSX1 for 300 m multimode or MGBLX1 for 10 km single-mode connections, and confirm the quoted optics quantity before placing the PO.

Best For

Routed Branch Staging

When a retained branch network needs local inter-VLAN gateways, the embedded IPv4 routing function supports 128 IP interfaces. Map gateway addresses and return paths against the existing network design rather than treating routing as an automatic discovery process. Specify the required routed-interface configuration and staging acceptance checks before the PO.

Configuration Standardization

When several retained installations need the same configuration baseline, text-editable configuration files can be downloaded to another switch, and SCP supports protected file transfer. Separate site-specific addressing from common settings rather than copying every value unchanged. Specify the configuration template, credentials handling, and staging acceptance checks before the PO.

Traffic Capture Bench

When a troubleshooting station needs traffic capture from several links, port mirroring can send eight source ports to one destination within a single session. Reserve the analyzer connection in the test plan and avoid treating the switch as a multi-session capture appliance. Specify the mirroring arrangement before the PO.

Not Suitable If

10G uplinks to other equipment

SG300-10SFP-K9-UK limits fixed uplinks to 1G and has no removable uplink-card bay. A requirement for faster individual uplinks calls for different hardware.

PoE power for connected endpoints

SG300-10SFP-K9-UK supplies no PoE from its copper interfaces. Powered endpoints need independent power or a separate PoE source, which must be included in the purchase plan.

Active Cisco service entitlement

SG300-10SFP-K9-UK lost Cisco service on October 31, 2023. Its successor chain ends with discontinued CBS350-8S-E-2G-UK without a migration product; this chain has no current replacement.

Questions & Answers

What does the SG300-10SFP-K9-UK part number mean?

SG300-10SFP-K9-UK identifies a 300-family Gigabit managed fiber switch with ten logical ports: eight dedicated SFP interfaces and two shared copper/SFP combo interfaces. SG300 identifies the series, 10 the total port count, and SFP the fiber configuration; K9 remains in the base ordering identifier, while UK identifies this regional ordering form.

How is SG300-10SFP-K9-UK managed?

SG300-10SFP-K9-UK is managed through an HTTP/HTTPS web UI, a console or SSH/Telnet CLI, and SNMP v1/v2c/v3. Cisco Textview offers full and menu-based command interfaces. Legacy integrations include Cisco Small Business FindIT Network and Cisco OnPlus; specify native management access and credentials during staging rather than assuming an external service remains available.

Is SG300-10SFP-K9-UK end of life?

SG300-10SFP-K9-UK is discontinued, with end of sale on October 4, 2018 and Cisco support ending October 31, 2023. Software maintenance ended October 4, 2019. Existing units can still be purchased in reseller-offered conditions, but a new hardware order does not restart Cisco support or software maintenance.

What conditions and warranties does ORM offer for SG300-10SFP-K9-UK?

ORM offers SG300-10SFP-K9-UK new sealed or certified refurbished, with up to a 3-year extended warranty on new units and up to 1 year on refurbished units. Both conditions have 30-day returns; terms apply. Cisco's original limited lifetime hardware warranty ended with Cisco support on October 31, 2023.

What is the difference between SG300-10SFP-K9-UK and SRW2008P-K9?

SRW2008P-K9 provides eight copper PoE ports sharing 62W, while SG300-10SFP-K9-UK is a non-PoE fiber switch. Both retain two combo interfaces. SRW2008P-K9 addresses powered-copper endpoint requirements in retained installations, whereas the SFP configuration addresses buyers preserving existing fiber connections rather than supplying endpoint power from the switch.

What is the difference between SG300-10SFP-K9-UK and SRW2016-K9?

SRW2016-K9 has an internal AC power supply, while SG300-10SFP-K9-UK uses an external AC adapter. Both accept universal AC input, but SRW2016-K9 is a copper-port model rather than a like-for-like fiber replacement. Buyers maintaining internal-power copper equipment have different spare requirements from buyers retaining external-adapter fiber equipment.

What is the difference between SG300-10SFP-K9-UK and SG300-28SFP-K9?

SG300-28SFP-K9 provides twenty-six dedicated SFP ports, compared with eight on SG300-10SFP-K9-UK; both add two combo interfaces. The larger fiber model changes connection density rather than uplink speed. Both models are discontinued, so the comparison concerns legacy fleet maintenance: fewer retained fiber links versus a larger existing fiber concentration.

How many connections can the SG300-10SFP combo ports provide?

SG300-10SFP provides two simultaneous combo connections, not four separate connections from the shared copper and SFP interfaces. Each combo port activates either its RJ-45 connection or its SFP connection. The eight dedicated SFP ports remain separate, so selecting copper for a combo connection does not disable a dedicated fiber port.

Which Gigabit optics can the SG300-10SFP use?

SG300-10SFP supports MGBSX1 for multimode fiber and MGBLX1, MGBLH1, or MGBBX1 for single-mode fiber, with MGBT1 providing a Gigabit copper transceiver option. MGBSX1 supports 300 m, MGBLX1 supports 10 km, and MGBLH1 and MGBBX1 support 40 km. Specify the required media and reach when selecting optics for the order.

Can SG300-10SFP-K9-UK route between VLANs?

SG300-10SFP-K9-UK supports static IPv4 routing between configured interfaces, with 512 static routes and 128 IP interfaces. Interfaces can be associated with VLANs, physical ports, link aggregation groups, or loopbacks. Routes and return paths require configuration; the routing capability does not turn the switch into a dynamic route-learning configuration.

Does the SG300-10SFP provide PoE for phones or access points?

SG300-10SFP does not provide PoE for phones, access points, or other powered endpoints. Its copper combo interfaces carry Ethernet data without an endpoint-power budget. Include independent endpoint power or a separate PoE source in the purchase plan, and do not substitute the switch's external AC adapter for endpoint power equipment.

What power input does SG300-10SFP-K9-UK require?

SG300-10SFP-K9-UK uses an external AC adapter accepting 100-240V AC at 50-60 Hz. Worst-case consumption reaches 18.1W at 110V, with 17.71W at 220V. Confirm the adapter and regional mains connection in the quoted package rather than treating the chassis as a switch with an internal AC supply.

What size is the SG300-10SFP desktop switch?

SG300-10SFP is a desktop-format switch measuring 279.4 mm wide, 44.45 mm high, and 170 mm deep, with a weight of 2.125 kg. For cabinet placement, confirm the physical mounting arrangement and available clearance before ordering; the compact chassis is narrower than a full-width network switch.
