Fanless Managed Access for Powered Small Office Endpoints

SG300-10PP-K9 is a fanless, managed Layer 2+ desktop switch with eight 10/100/1000 PoE+ access ports and two fixed Gigabit combo uplinks. Each uplink uses either its RJ-45 connection or its SFP cage, not both simultaneously. The Small Business 300 family connects computers, IP phones and wireless access points, with static IPv4 routing for communication between VLANs. Copper and fiber uplink choices share the same chassis rather than requiring a removable uplink card. The discontinued SG300-10MPP-K9 differs by providing a 124W endpoint-power budget. The SG300-10PP uses a compact desktop enclosure rather than a full-width rack chassis. Select this configuration when powered edge connections, local management and Gigabit upstream connectivity match the equipment schedule, rather than assuming capabilities from a newer enterprise switch family.

Technical Details

62W of shared PoE budget limits the aggregate allocation to attached endpoints; assess their combined requirements rather than treating port count as available power. 83.47W worst-case consumption provides the electrical provisioning figure with PoE loads included. Static IPv4 routing handles inter-VLAN traffic, but dynamic routing is not included. STP/RSTP/MSTP control switching loops, while LACP aggregates compatible Ethernet connections. SG300-10PP-K9 carries 128 MB of DRAM and 16 MB of flash for its managed configuration. An 8 Mb packet buffer is dynamically shared across the ports rather than reserved independently for each endpoint. Browser-based administration and CLI access through the serial console, SSH or Telnet provide configuration paths. Prefer SSH over Telnet for remote command-line administration. The external AC adapter supplies operating power, so preserve local AC availability and include the adapter in the equipment schedule. Configuration staging should establish the management address and access method before connecting the unit to the production network.

Ordering

SG300-10PP-K9 is offered new sealed or certified refurbished; specify the condition and confirm adapter inclusion before submitting the purchase order. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on and POST, rated-speed links on every port, clean boot, PoE output under load on every powered port, optics bay recognition and rated adapter output; firmware is verified and configuration wiped to factory default. Cisco's original limited lifetime coverage has ended; ORM provides up to 3-year extended warranty for new units and up to 1 year for certified refurbished units, with 30-day returns on every condition, terms apply. For enterprise and volume orders, PO accepted, Net-30 for government and RMA with advance replacement apply; regional stock and RMA cover the UK, EU, US and MEA.

Buying Notes

Buying NotesKey Specs

Follow the replacement chain

New-deployment orders should follow the migration chain to C1300-8P-E-2G; SG350-10P-K9-NA and CBS350-8P-E-2G-NA are discontinued, and SG300-10PP-K9 ended sale on May 10, 2018.

Specify fiber optics separately

Fiber connections require matched optics at both ends. SG300-10PP-K9 accepts MGBSX1 for multimode fiber and MGBLX1 for single-mode fiber; specify the required optic PID separately on the equipment order.

Best For

Voice Endpoint Rollout

When an office is replacing its voice endpoints, the Small Business 300 family can assign voice traffic to a voice-specific VLAN and apply associated QoS treatment. That automatic voice behavior differs from basic unconfigured switching. Specify phone interoperability, VLAN assignments and the required endpoint-power allocation before completing the purchase order.

Routing Lab Staging

For a lab staging inter-VLAN routing before deployment, the Small Business 300 family supports 128 IP interfaces. Routing interfaces can use physical ports, link aggregation groups, VLAN interfaces or loopbacks. Decide which interfaces the test configuration requires, then include the management connection and configuration requirements with the equipment order.

Not Suitable If

10G uplinks to upstream equipment

SG300-10PP-K9 provides fixed 1G combo uplinks rather than 10G uplinks. A purchase requiring 10G upstream connections needs a different switch.

Dynamic routing between access networks

SG300-10PP-K9 supports static IPv4 routing rather than dynamic route exchange. Networks requiring automatic route updates need a separate routing device or a different switch.

Continued Cisco service coverage

Cisco service has ended for the Small Business 300 family. For replacement procurement, the migration chain leads through discontinued intermediate models to C1300-8P-E-2G.

Questions & Answers

What configuration does the part number SG300-10PP-K9 identify?

SG300-10PP-K9 identifies a Small Business 300 Gigabit managed switch with ten logical network ports: eight PoE+ access ports and two combo uplinks. The 300 segment identifies the family, 10 reflects total port count, and PP distinguishes this PoE+ configuration from the earlier PoE configuration.

How is SG300-10PP-K9 managed?

SG300-10PP-K9 supports a web-based configuration interface and CLI access through the serial console, SSH or Telnet. Browser administration provides a graphical path, while the console allows local command-line access. Specify the intended management method when staging the unit, and prefer SSH for remote administration.

Is SG300-10PP-K9 discontinued?

SG300-10PP-K9 is discontinued, with end of sale on May 10, 2018, and Cisco service has ended. Reseller availability does not restore manufacturer support. Treat an order as post-support hardware procurement and identify the spare-unit and replacement arrangements before approving continued operational use.

What conditions and warranties does ORM offer for SG300-10PP-K9?

ORM offers SG300-10PP-K9 new sealed with up to 3-year extended warranty, or certified refurbished with up to 1 year. Returns are 30 days on every condition, terms apply. Cisco's original limited lifetime warranty has ended because Cisco service has ended. Refurbished managed units are firmware verified and wiped to factory default.

How much PoE power does SG300-10PP-K9 provide?

SG300-10PP-K9 provides a shared 62W PoE budget across eight powered Gigabit access ports. The budget is an aggregate allocation, not a separate allowance for every connection. Add the requirements of the proposed powered endpoints before ordering, and do not assume that every port can simultaneously supply its individual maximum.

What uplinks does SG300-10PP-K9 have?

SG300-10PP-K9 has two fixed 1G combo uplinks, each pairing an RJ-45 connection with an SFP cage. A combo uplink uses one medium at a time, so the paired connections are not additional independent ports. Specify copper or fiber for each upstream link and include the required optics when using fiber.

Can SG300-10PP-K9 route between VLANs?

SG300-10PP-K9 supports static IPv4 routing between VLANs, with a maximum of 512 static routes and 128 IP interfaces. Routing interfaces can be configured on physical ports, link aggregation groups, VLAN interfaces or loopbacks. This is static routing rather than dynamic route exchange, so establish the required routes during configuration staging.

Is the SG300-10PP a desktop or full-width rack switch?

The SG300-10PP is a desktop switch measuring 279.4 mm wide, 44.45 mm high and 170 mm deep. A mounting kit is included, but the chassis is narrower than a full-width rack switch. Its operating temperature range is 0°C to 40°C; verify mounting space and ambient conditions before ordering.

Which older switch does the SG300-10PP replace?

The SG300-10PP replaces the earlier SG300-10P configuration; the Australian ordering transition specifically maps SRW2008P-K9-AU to SG300-10PP-K9-AU. The change adds PoE+ to the older PoE configuration. Match regional order identifiers before substituting stock, rather than treating every regional part number as interchangeable.

What is the difference between SG300-10PP-K9 and SG300-10MPP-K9?

SG300-10MPP-K9 has a 124W PoE budget, compared with 62W on SG300-10PP-K9. Both provide eight Gigabit powered access ports and two combo uplinks, but both are discontinued. The smaller budget suits lower aggregate endpoint demand; the larger budget accommodates a higher combined power requirement.

What is the difference between SG300-10PP-K9 and C1300-8P-E-2G?

C1300-8P-E-2G is the migration endpoint for SG300-10PP-K9 after the discontinued SG350-10P-K9-NA and CBS350-8P-E-2G-NA generations. The replacement retains eight Gigabit access ports and two Gigabit combo uplinks with external power. Existing-system sparing may require the older PID; replacement procurement should follow the migration endpoint.

Which fiber optics fit the SG300-10PP?

MGBSX1 and MGBLX1 fit the SG300-10PP SFP uplink cages for Gigabit multimode and single-mode fiber respectively. MGBSX1 supports a maximum 300 m link, while MGBLX1 supports a maximum 10 km link. Match the remote optic, fiber type and required reach before adding optics to the equipment order.
