Two dedicated Gigabit copper uplinks and two Gigabit combo uplinks connect the access network upstream. Each combo connection pairs an RJ-45 connector with an SFP cage, with only one medium active at a time. The Small Business 300 model combines powered copper access with fixed uplink connections rather than removable network cards. Its static-routing capability places it in Layer 2+. SG300-28 is the discontinued non-PoE sibling with the same network-port layout.

When an existing configuration must be staged before cutover, routing-resource allocation needs attention: the default reserves 128 TCAM entries for IP functions. Static routes, interface addresses and neighboring hosts share that allocation. SG300-28P uses IEEE 802.3af PoE with a 15.4W per-port maximum. Endpoints requiring IEEE 802.3at PoE+ cannot receive their full required power from this model.
10G uplinks to distribution
SG300-28P has fixed 1G uplink connections and cannot provide 10G links through its SFP cages. Installing a different optical transceiver does not add a 10G uplink.
