Fanless Fiber Access for Distributed Enterprise Endpoints

CMICR-4PS is a fanless, managed Layer 2 switch with four Gigabit Ethernet PoE+ access ports and two fixed 1G SFP uplinks. Its compact desktop form factor accommodates wall-jack installations close to IP phones, access points and cameras rather than occupying a full-width rack position. The Catalyst Micro Switches family serves fiber-to-the-desk and fiber-to-the-office networks, placing access switching near connected equipment while fiber carries the upstream connection. LAN Lite is the included Cisco IOS feature set. This four-port Gigabit PoE+ access switch combines copper endpoint connections with an entirely fiber-based uplink arrangement. The discontinued CMICR-4PC instead provides one copper uplink and one SFP uplink, distinguishing the two wall-jack configurations by their upstream connection mix.

Technical Details

12 Gbps full-duplex switching capacity serves the access and uplink interfaces; 8.928 Mpps forwarding applies to 64-byte packets. 62W of shared PoE is available with PSU-80W-AC, requiring endpoint allocations within the aggregate limit despite individual ports supporting 30W. CMICR-4PS carries 512 MB of DRAM and 256 MB of flash for its operating image and configuration. Support for 8192 MAC entries and 64 VLANs defines the local switching scale. SNMPv3 provides management visibility, while LACP supports Ethernet channeling. The microSD slot accepts boot images and configuration files for replacement workflows. 78.66W measured input during the PoE test at 115V AC provides a power-planning reference rather than treating the PSU-80W-AC rating as actual consumption. Hardware stacking is not supported, so multiple units remain separate switches rather than members of a hardware stack.

Ordering

ORM Systems offers CMICR-4PS new sealed with up to a 3-year extended warranty or certified refurbished with up to 1 year; every condition has 30-day returns, terms apply. Cisco's separate original-owner enhanced limited lifetime warranty has a five-year discontinuance limit, with Cisco service ending April 30, 2031. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested, with PoE output verified under load on every powered port, firmware verified and configuration wiped to factory default. Specify condition, accessories and quantities on the PO; enterprise and volume orders have PO acceptance, Net-30 for government, RMA with advance replacement and regional stock/RMA across the UK, EU, US and MEA.

Buying Notes

Buying NotesKey Specs

Extended node license dependency

CMICR-4PS requires Cisco DNA Advantage plus an upstream fabric-edge-capable switch for SD-Access extended-node operation. Cisco DNA Essentials includes basic automation and assurance but does not enable that role.

Best For

Wall Duct Rollout

When a room-by-room installation reuses wall trunking, M45 compatibility determines whether direct mounting is possible without mounting accessories. Other duct arrangements require suitable brackets or bezels. Confirm the opening and attachment method before purchasing hardware, and specify CMICR-BZL-S-C only where a short centered bezel matches the installation.

Console Staging

When switches are configured before installation, the CMICR-4PS micro USB console defaults to 115200 bits per second and does not detect baud rate automatically. Set the terminal profile before loading the configuration. Include console connectivity and a successful configuration session in the staging checklist before releasing the order.

Endpoint Power Allocation

When endpoint allocations depend on PSU-80W-AC, the default 65W power setting needs attention during staging. The power inline ps watt command selects the configured supply rating. Include PSU-80W-AC identification and the matching 80W power setting in the acceptance checklist before issuing the purchase order.

Not Suitable If

10G fiber uplinks

CMICR-4PS provides fixed 1G SFP uplinks rather than 10G interfaces. A requirement for a native 10G upstream connection exceeds this model's uplink capability.

Inter-VLAN routing at the edge

CMICR-4PS is a Layer 2 switch without Layer 3 functionality. Inter-VLAN routing must reside elsewhere in the network rather than on this unit.

Questions & Answers

What does the CMICR-4PS part number identify?

CMICR-4PS identifies the Catalyst Micro Switch configuration for wall-jack deployments with two SFP uplinks. The complete part number selects the model with four Gigabit Ethernet PoE+ access ports and LAN Lite software. The ordering name distinguishes this configuration from the copper-uplink and desktop versions.

How is CMICR-4PS configured and managed?

CMICR-4PS supports the Cisco IOS CLI through its micro USB console, remote CLI access through SSH or Telnet, and SNMP management. Cisco Prime Infrastructure and Cisco DNA Center are also supported. Network Plug and Play provides an automated provisioning path when a preconfigured PnP server is available.

Is CMICR-4PS end of sale?

Yes, CMICR-4PS reached end of sale on April 30, 2026, with Cisco support ending April 30, 2031 for eligible covered equipment. Software maintenance releases end April 30, 2027. Cisco IOS 15.2(8)E is the final supported release, and no direct replacement is available for this model.

Which software licenses does CMICR-4PS use?

CMICR-4PS ships with LAN Lite and supports Cisco DNA Essentials or Cisco DNA Advantage management capabilities. Both Cisco DNA tiers include basic automation and assurance. SD-Access extended-node operation requires Cisco DNA Advantage and an upstream fabric-edge-capable switch; that role does not add local Layer 3 routing.

How much PoE power does CMICR-4PS provide?

CMICR-4PS provides a shared 62W PoE budget with PSU-80W-AC and supports 30W on an individual access port. Four ports at 30W would require 120W, so all four cannot draw their individual maximum simultaneously. Allocate power against connected-device requirements before selecting the endpoint combination.

Which mounting options do Catalyst Micro Switches support for CMICR-4PS?

CMICR-4PS supports direct installation in M45-compatible cable ducts, duct-and-conduit mounting with brackets and bezels, or DIN rail mounting with CMICR-CLIP-DIN. Upright and vertical orientations are supported for the wall-jack model. Match the mounting method to the existing duct or rail before specifying the installation accessories.

Can Catalyst Micro Switches be stacked?

No, Catalyst Micro Switches do not support hardware stacking. Each unit remains a separate managed switch, so purchasing several units does not create one hardware stack. Plan configuration and management assignments for the individual switches rather than including stack adapters or stacking cables on the order.

What is the difference between CMICR-4PS and CMICR-4PC?

CMICR-4PS has two 1G SFP uplinks, while CMICR-4PC has one 1G copper uplink and one 1G SFP uplink. Both models are discontinued. The former matches existing dual-fiber installations; the latter matches installations retaining a copper upstream connection alongside a fiber connection.

What is the difference between CMICR-4PS and CMICR-4PT?

CMICR-4PS supplies 62W of shared PoE with PSU-80W-AC, while CMICR-4PT can supply 120W when PSU-80W-AC is combined with a 90W PD uplink. Both models are discontinued. Existing 62W allocations fit the former; the latter's larger allocation depends on combining both power inputs.

What condition and warranty options does ORM Systems offer for CMICR-4PS?

CMICR-4PS is available new sealed with up to a 3-year extended ORM warranty or certified refurbished with up to 1 year. Both have 30-day returns, terms apply. Cisco's original-owner enhanced limited lifetime warranty has a five-year discontinuance limit; Cisco service ends April 30, 2031.
