Deep Buffering for Mixed-Speed Campus Access Networks

C9350-48HXG is a deep-buffer Layer 3 enterprise access switch combining 24 multigigabit copper ports reaching 10G with 24 Gigabit copper ports, all supporting 90W Cisco UPOE+. The 1U chassis belongs to the Cisco C9350 Series Smart Switches and connects Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 access points alongside building automation, surveillance, and other campus endpoints. An empty modular uplink bay accepts C9350-NM-2C, C9350-NM-8Y, or C9350-NM-8M rather than providing fixed uplinks. The mixed downlink layout separates higher-speed endpoint connections from Gigabit access without making every port multigigabit. For a nearby power-budget comparison, C9350-48HXN starts with 470W of available PoE. Feature selection is separate from the chassis PID, with Cisco Switching Essentials and Cisco Switching Advantage options.

Technical Details

928 Gbps switching capacity and 690.432 Mpps forwarding provide the standalone throughput figures for traffic sizing. 450W of shared PoE is available with the standard PWR-C2-850WAC-I supply, so endpoint allocations must remain within that total rather than assuming maximum power on every connection. OSPF is limited to 1000 routes under Cisco Switching Essentials; RIP and EIGRP Stub also support routed access at that tier. C9350-48HXG carries 16 GB of DRAM and 18 GB of flash for the control plane and operating image. The C9350 Series supports console and SSH configuration, Cisco Catalyst Center, and cloud management through the Meraki dashboard. Device-sourced cloud configuration permits read/write Cloud CLI, while cloud-sourced configuration provides read-only Cloud CLI. Dedicated StackWise-1.6T connectors form eight-member data stacks with 1.6 Tbps bandwidth. Three modular fans, serviced with C9350-FAN-I= spares, provide N+1 cooling redundancy; front-to-back airflow governs chassis ventilation.

Ordering

ORM Systems supplies C9350-48HXG new sealed or certified refurbished; new units carry up to a 3-year extended warranty, refurbished units up to 1 year, and both conditions have 30-day returns with terms applying. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested, including power-on and POST, rated-speed links on every port, clean boot, PoE output under load on every powered port, firmware verification, and configuration wiping to factory default. Specify the condition, quantity, and complete accessory selections on the purchase order before placing the order. POs are accepted, government purchases qualify for Net-30, and enterprise volume orders have regional stock and RMA handling across the UK, EU, US, and MEA, with advance replacement.

Buying Notes

Buying NotesKey Specs

Select the subscription path

C9350-48HXG needs its feature tier selected separately through Cisco Networking Subscription or an Enterprise Agreement. Choose Cisco Switching Essentials or Cisco Switching Advantage; new subscriptions require at least 36 months, with entitlements managed through Cisco Smart Accounts.

Size simultaneous endpoint power

C9350-48HXG needs three PWR-C2-1600WAC-I supplies for 48 × 90W = 4320W simultaneous endpoint power. Specify input voltage and power mode before ordering; PWR-C2-1600WAC-I output drops to 1200W at 115V.

Match licenses and cables

C9350-48HXG stack partners must use the same license level. Specify STACK-T1A-50CM=, STACK-T1A-1M=, or STACK-T1A-3M=; existing Catalyst 9300 stacking and power-sharing cables are incompatible with the C9350 connections.

Best For

Campus Software Refresh

When a campus refresh introduces this model into an existing software baseline, the required IOS XE release is 26.2.1. Treat image compatibility as a staging requirement rather than carrying forward an older switch image. Specify the intended release and management mode on the purchase order.

Shared Power Expansion

When expanding a wiring closet's shared power domain, StackPower+ supports a ring of four C9350 switches, distinct from the data stack. CAB-SPWR-35CM= and CAB-SPWR-100CM= provide the power connections. Confirm cable reach and divide larger groups into appropriate power domains before specifying the power-sharing accessories.

Burst Traffic Staging

When lab staging includes burst-heavy application traffic, the deep-buffer model adds 8 GB of dedicated buffering memory beyond the control-plane memory. Validate the traffic profile and application requirements before standardizing that capability across production closets. Specify the intended software release and any selected application storage before placing the staging order.

Not Suitable If

10G access on every port

C9350-48HXG limits 24 access ports to 1G. C9350-48HX provides 48 multigigabit ports reaching 10G and uses PWR-C2-1600WAC-I as its default supply.

Four 100G modular uplinks

C9350-48HXG supports 200G total uplink capacity and cannot accept C9350-NM-4C. C9350-48HX supports C9350-NM-4C for four 100G uplinks while retaining a 48-port chassis.

Half-duplex legacy Ethernet connections

C9350-48HXG supports 10/100 Mbps operation only in full duplex, including its Gigabit ports. Legacy devices requiring half-duplex links cannot be attached in that operating mode.

How many C9350 Series switches can be stacked?

C9350 Series switches form eight-member StackWise-1.6T stacks with 1.6 Tbps stack bandwidth. Members must use the same license level. Compatible data cables are STACK-T1A-50CM=, STACK-T1A-1M=, and STACK-T1A-3M=. Catalyst 9300 stacking cables are incompatible. StackPower+ uses separate CAB-SPWR-35CM= or CAB-SPWR-100CM= cables and supports four-member power rings.

What is the difference between C9350-48HXG and C9350-48HXN?

C9350-48HXN provides 470W of PoE with its default PWR-C2-850WAC-I supply, compared with 450W for C9350-48HXG using PWR-C2-850WAC-I. Both budgets are shared across powered ports. Buyers retaining the standard supply can choose according to aggregate endpoint demand rather than treating 90W per-port capability as a simultaneous allocation.

What is the difference between C9350-48HXG and C9350-48HX?

C9350-48HX ships with PWR-C2-1600WAC-I, whereas C9350-48HXG defaults to PWR-C2-850WAC-I. The difference changes the starting power configuration rather than guaranteeing full endpoint power from one supply. Buyers planning larger initial PoE allocations should size C9350-48HX first; lower starting power requirements can favor C9350-48HXG.

What is the difference between C9350-48HXG and C9350-24HX?

C9350-48HXG has 48 access ports, while C9350-24HX has 24. The difference matters when counting cable runs, endpoints, and spare connections for a closet order. Buyers needing more connections within one chassis should specify C9350-48HXG; buyers ordering for a 24-connection access block should consider C9350-24HX.

What routing is available on C9350 Series switches?

C9350 Series switches support Layer 3 routed access, including RIP, EIGRP Stub, and OSPF limited to 1000 routes under Cisco Switching Essentials. Cisco Switching Advantage adds segmentation capabilities such as BGP EVPN. Select the feature tier before specifying routing or fabric requirements; protocol capability and hardware route-table capacity are separate limits.
