ESS-3300-NCP-A is a managed Layer 3 embedded switching mainboard for industrial equipment built around a custom host assembly. The Embedded Services 3300 design provides eight Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, four configurable as copper/fiber combo interfaces, plus two fixed 1G/10G uplink interfaces. These connections support integration into a finished system rather than providing a ready-to-cable front panel. Network Advantage is included, while the cooling plate and optional expansion board are excluded. Cisco ESS 3300 serves custom transportation, defense, mining, and oil-and-gas equipment where enclosure design and external connections belong to the system integrator. Compared with ESS-3300-NCP-E, the purchasing distinction is the included network license rather than a different mainboard interface count. Select this configuration when the assembly requires the Advantage feature set and its own thermal implementation.

Line-rate forwarding for all ports and packet sizes supports traffic across the available Ethernet interfaces. OSPFv2, OSPFv3, IS-IS and EIGRP enable routed configurations; PIM-SM and PIM-DM cover multicast routing under the included tier. ESS-3300-NCP-A combines 4 GB of DRAM with 4 GB of onboard flash for software and configuration storage. Web UI, CLI, SNMP, NETCONF and RESTCONF provide configuration and monitoring paths. MACsec-256 is limited to 1G downlinks rather than the 10G uplinks. RSTP, MSTP and LACP provide loop prevention and link aggregation functions within the completed assembly. PoE is not supplied by the bare board; powered endpoints require host-side power circuitry rather than a software setting alone.
ESS-3300-NCP-A is available new sealed or certified refurbished; request the required condition, quantity and integration accessories on the PO. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on, POST, rated-speed port links and clean boot, with firmware verified and configurations wiped to factory default. Cisco's separate Limited Hardware Warranty is 1 year; ORM provides up to a 3-year extended warranty for new units and up to 1 year for certified refurbished units, with 30-day returns on every condition, terms apply. When retiring discontinued ESS-2020-NCP or ESS-2020-NCP-B assemblies, treat the replacement as a host-integration change rather than a guaranteed mechanical swap. ESS-3300-NCP-A is their named replacement, but the existing carrier, external connections and thermal arrangement still need an engineering review before the replacement quantity enters the PO.
For an embedded system that must separate routed networks, the mainboard supports VRF-lite with 16 VRFs. Map the required routing instances to the host design and configuration plan, then specify the licensed mainboard and required segmentation count before approving the assembly purchase.
For integration benches that need removable boot media, the optional 4 GB SD card is not included with the board. Identify whether removable storage belongs in the finished assembly or only in the staging fixture, then include the required storage and access provisions in the integration bill of materials.

ESS-3300-NCP-A provides eight Gigabit interfaces rather than twenty-four. ESS-3300-24T-NCP-A bundles the expansion board for twenty-four Gigabit interfaces, still without cooling plates.
PoE directly from the bare board
ESS-3300-NCP-A does not include the host circuitry needed to supply PoE. Powered endpoints require an integrator-provided PoE implementation in the host chassis, not simply a software setting.

ESS-3300 identifies the ESS 3300 mainboard family, NCP means no cooling plate, and A selects Network Advantage software in ESS-3300-NCP-A. The order is for the mainboard rather than the mainboard-plus-expansion bundle. Neither a separate port-density marker nor a separate uplink marker appears in this part number.
ESS-3300-NCP-A is managed through the web UI and Cisco IOS XE CLI, with console access plus SSH or Telnet network access. RS-232 and USB provide console interfaces; SNMP, NETCONF and RESTCONF provide additional monitoring and automation paths. Initial IP settings must be established before web-based management is used.
