IE-2000-4T-L is a managed Layer 2 industrial switch with four 10/100BASE-T access ports and two fixed 10/100BASE-T copper uplinks, supplied with LAN Lite. The non-PoE DIN rail chassis belongs to the Cisco Industrial Ethernet 2000 Series and connects Ethernet-enabled controllers, HMIs, drives and sensors inside industrial enclosures. All network connections on this model use copper; there are no SFP cages or removable uplink cards to populate. The discontinued IE-2000-4T-B uses the same port arrangement but carries LAN Base. This configuration serves existing control networks whose endpoints and upstream connections operate at Fast Ethernet speeds, rather than installations requiring native Gigabit connections.

15W maximum consumption establishes the switch-only load for external power planning. The operating hardware includes 256 MB of DRAM and 64 MB of onboard flash, while a 2 MB egress buffer holds packets awaiting transmission. An 8000-entry MAC address table supports Ethernet forwarding. IE-2000-4T-L supports Web Device Manager, remote CLI access over SSH or Telnet, and SNMP integration with network management tools. EtherNet/IP and PROFINET v2 provide industrial automation integration. IP routing is not included, so communication between subnets requires an upstream routing device. Two alarm inputs detect open or closed dry contacts, and one relay output can signal an external alarm device. Primary and secondary DC feeds support separate external sources: the higher-voltage source supplies power while both are active, and the remaining source powers the chassis if one fails. Front-panel indicators expose input-power and port status for local inspection without opening a management session.

Where maintenance procedures transfer a saved configuration during hardware replacement, the optional SD-IE-1GB= stores software and configuration changes outside internal flash. The 1 GB card is not included by default. Specify the card separately and verify the configuration-transfer procedure before ordering the spare for the maintenance inventory.
When staging a replacement away from the production network, the USB mini-Type B console provides local CLI access. Windows hosts need the Cisco USB driver, and USB takes priority if both console interfaces are connected. Confirm the staging computer, driver availability and console connection before approving the equipment order.
When duplicating industrial cabinets across sites, installation clearance extends beyond the space occupied by the chassis. The switch requires 50.8 mm clearance above, below, beside and in front of the enclosure-mounted unit. Confirm the cabinet layout, neighboring equipment positions and cable access before standardizing the enclosure bill of materials.
Native Gigabit or fiber uplinks
The uplinks are limited to 100 Mbps copper. IE-3100-4T2S-E replaces the discontinued model with four Gigabit copper ports and two Gigabit SFP ports.
Routing with the included license
LAN Lite provides Layer 2 switching rather than IP routing. IPv4 static routing and dynamic routing are outside the included software feature tier.
Power delivery to Ethernet endpoints
IE-2000-4T-L does not supply PoE through its Ethernet ports. Connected devices requiring Ethernet-delivered power need a separate power source or a different switch.

IE-2000 identifies the Industrial Ethernet 2000 family, 4T identifies this six-port Fast Ethernet copper configuration, and L identifies LAN Lite. IE-2000-4T-L has four downlink ports plus two copper uplinks, so the 4T segment should not be read as the total Ethernet port count.
IE-2000-4T-L supports Web Device Manager over HTTPS, Cisco IOS CLI through RJ-45 or USB console and SSH or Telnet, plus SNMP management. Additional management options include Cisco Network Assistant, Cisco Prime Infrastructure, Prime LAN Management Solution, Catalyst Center, CIP-based tools and PROFINET automation software such as STEP 7.
IE-2000-4T-L reached end of sale on July 26, 2024, with Cisco support ending July 31, 2029. Software maintenance ended July 26, 2025, and planned vulnerability or security support ends July 26, 2027. Existing service eligibility remains important for any purchase that depends on continuing Cisco support.

IE-2000-4T-L has two fixed 10/100BASE-T copper uplinks, not Gigabit Ethernet or SFP uplinks. The uplink connections operate over twisted-pair copper cabling, with a maximum cable length of 100 m. No transceiver or removable uplink card can convert these built-in ports into fiber connections.
IE-2000-4T-L uses external DC power through primary and secondary front-panel inputs, rather than internal redundant AC supplies. One input can power the switch; with both active, the higher-voltage source supplies power. Independent upstream sources are required if the two feeds are intended to protect against a shared power-source failure.
The optional SD-IE-1GB= card stores software and configuration changes for Industrial Ethernet 2000 switches, allowing a saved setup to accompany a hardware replacement.
