IE-2000U-16TC-G is a fanless, DIN rail-mounted industrial switch with 16 dedicated 10/100 copper access ports, two Gigabit combo uplinks and two additional Fast Ethernet combo uplinks. LAN Base provides managed Layer 2 switching for utility cabinets connecting programmable logic controllers, human-machine interfaces and intelligent electronic devices. Each combo connection offers copper or fiber media, with only one interface active per shared port. The Industrial Ethernet 2000U uses a fixed configuration rather than an expansion-module bay. For installed systems requiring endpoint power, the discontinued IE-2000U-16TC-GP differs by providing four PoE-capable access ports. 7.6 Gbps switching capacity supports the fixed interface configuration, while 5.66 Mpps forwarding handles 64-byte packets. A 2 MB egress buffer holds queued traffic; configurable queue bandwidth and ingress policing control traffic allocation. The address-learning limit is 8000 MAC entries, with 1005 VLANs available for segmentation. IE-2000U-16TC-G uses 256 MB DRAM and 1 GB flash storage. DHCP snooping, dynamic ARP inspection and IP source guard address access-side traffic controls, while LACP supports link aggregation. REP, FlexLink and PRP provide different redundancy arrangements rather than hardware stacking. Cisco IE 2000U management includes a graphical application, command-line access and SNMP integration. 20W maximum consumption establishes the switch load when sizing the external DC source; endpoint power is not supplied by this model.

When replacing an installed utility switch, preserving the boot medium is part of the spare-equipment plan. The SD-IE-1GB= card stores software images and configurations for replacement without reconfiguration. Define which team retains the card and configuration, then specify the boot-medium requirement alongside the spare chassis.
When standardizing replacements across utility sites, existing alarm wiring can determine the required cabinet integration. Two dry-contact alarm inputs and one relay output connect external signaling to the switch. Check contact behavior and wiring against each site's alarm circuits before specifying quantities and the required installation materials on the purchase order.
When buying units for bench staging, management addressing and access credentials belong in the acceptance plan. Initial setup requires an IP address, subnet mask and default gateway, together with administrative credentials. IE-2000U-16TC-G is the LAN Base Industrial Ethernet 2000U model with 16 Fast Ethernet copper access ports. IE-2000U identifies the family; 16 denotes the access-port count; TC-G identifies this copper configuration with two Gigabit and two Fast Ethernet combo uplinks. The complete identifier distinguishes this configuration from the PoE-capable variant.
IE-2000U-16TC-G supports Cisco Configuration Professional, Cisco Network Assistant, the Cisco IOS CLI through console, SSH or Telnet, and SNMP management. Local access uses RJ-45 or USB mini-Type B console connections. Select the management application, network addressing and credentials during staging rather than treating the switch as unmanaged.
IE-2000U-16TC-G includes LAN Base and supports an IP Services upgrade using SIEUISK9T-15002EK=. IP Services adds static and inter-VLAN routing, OSPF, EIGRP, IS-IS and BGPv4. State the required image and entitlement on the order; the included LAN Base configuration provides Layer 2 switching rather than those routing features.
IE-2000U-16TC-G has two Gigabit combo uplinks and two Fast Ethernet combo uplinks, each sharing copper and SFP interfaces. Only one medium operates on each shared connection, and SFP normally takes priority when both interfaces are linked. Specify the active medium for each connection before ordering the required fiber components.
IE-2000U-16TC-G accepts 9.6-60V DC through its dual DC inputs, supplied by a suitable site source or an external supply such as PWR-IE50W-AC=. Two input feeds do not mean two internal power-supply modules. Specify the upstream source, grounding and wiring arrangement before placing the hardware order.
Industrial Ethernet 2000U switches mount on a DIN rail inside an appropriate enclosure, with 50.8 mm clearance at the top, bottom, sides and front. The chassis itself is not a full-width rack switch. Check enclosure access, grounding and wiring space before specifying the mounting arrangement for the order.
Industrial Ethernet 2000U supports -40°C to 60°C in sealed enclosures and -40°C to 70°C in vented enclosures. Safety certifications do not cover operation above 60°C, and optics can lower the temperature limit. Specify enclosure airflow and transceiver temperature class before finalizing the cabinet configuration and associated hardware order.
IE-2000U-16TC-G reached end of sale on July 26, 2024; Cisco's last date of support is July 31, 2029. Software maintenance ended July 26, 2025, and vulnerability/security support ends July 26, 2027. Purchasing remaining stock does not restart or extend these lifecycle milestones.
IE-2000U-16TC-G has no PoE output, whereas discontinued IE-2000U-16TC-GP provides four PoE-capable copper ports. The GP model needs a separate PoE power connection to power endpoints. The non-PoE model serves separately powered devices; the GP variant addresses powered endpoints when matching equipment in an existing installation.
Discontinued IE-2000U-16TC-G-X adds a conformal coating that IE-2000U-16TC-G lacks. Both configurations include LAN Base; conformal coating is a hardware distinction, not a software upgrade. The uncoated model matches standard replacement requirements, while the coated variant matches existing installations whose equipment specification explicitly requires conformal coating.
IE-3100-18T2C-E provides 18 Gigabit copper ports and two Gigabit combo ports, whereas IE-2000U-16TC-G has 16 dedicated Fast Ethernet copper access ports. The discontinued model serves like-for-like installed-base replacement requirements; its current successor addresses Gigabit migration with a different access-port count rather than an identical interface configuration.
