IE-2000-16TC-G-L is a managed Layer 2 industrial access switch for DIN rail installation, with sixteen 10/100BASE-T copper access ports, two Gigabit combo uplinks and two additional 100Mbps SFP uplinks. Each combo interface uses either its copper connection or its fiber connection, rather than both simultaneously. LAN Lite is the included feature level, and this configuration does not supply PoE to connected endpoints. The Industrial Ethernet 2000 family connects programmable logic controllers, human-machine interfaces, drives and sensors within industrial enclosures. The discontinued IE-2000-16PTC-G-L sibling supplies four PoE+ access ports instead of retaining the dedicated Fast Ethernet fiber uplinks. 7.6 Gbps switching capacity establishes the switching envelope, while 5.66 Mpps forwarding applies to 64-byte packets. An 8000-entry MAC table tracks learned destinations, and the 2 MB egress buffer holds outgoing traffic. IE-2000-16TC-G-L carries 256 MB of DRAM for runtime operation and 64 MB of onboard flash for software storage. REP supports industrial ring connections; IGMPv1/v2/v3 snooping, IGMP filtering and an IGMP Querier control Layer 2 multicast delivery. Administrative security includes SSH, SNMPv3, TACACS+ and RADIUS. NTP supports clock synchronization, while UDLD, CDP and LLDP support link monitoring and neighbor discovery. Cisco IE 2000 management includes Web Device Manager and the Cisco IOS CLI rather than configuration-free operation. The included license does not enable IP routing or Layer 2 NAT. 30W maximum power consumption sets the switch load to accommodate when sizing the external DC source.

When an industrial cabinet build places several devices side by side, the switch requires 50.8 mm clearance at the top, bottom, sides and front to preserve airflow. Cabinet dimensions alone do not establish installation space. Specify the enclosure layout and confirm cable access before ordering switches for the build.
Where spare switches must connect to existing cabinet alarm wiring, two dry-contact alarm inputs and one alarm output relay provide the physical interfaces. The output relay is rated 1A at 24V DC or 0.5A at 48V DC. Confirm the external alarm circuit rating and specify connector requirements before the replacement PO.
When staging switches before installation in restricted-access enclosures, the RJ-45 console and USB mini-Type B console provide local CLI access. The USB connection requires a five-pin mini-Type B connector, and Windows hosts require the Cisco USB driver. Specify the console connection and prepare the staging workstation before the hardware PO.
Gigabit speeds on copper access ports
The sixteen copper access ports stop at 100Mbps. IE-3100-18T2C-E provides eighteen Gigabit copper access ports and two Gigabit combo connections, changing both access speed and access-port count.
Power over Ethernet for connected endpoints
IE-2000-16TC-G-L does not supply PoE. IE-3200-8P2S-E provides PoE+ on eight Gigabit copper ports, but reduces the copper access-port count from sixteen to eight.
IP routing with the included license
LAN Lite provides Layer 2 switching rather than IP routing. Static routing requires LAN Base; dynamic routing requires IP Lite. LAN Base and IP Lite upgrade licenses are discontinued.

IE-2000-16TC-G-L identifies an Industrial Ethernet 2000 switch with sixteen Fast Ethernet copper ports, two Gigabit combo connections, two Fast Ethernet SFP ports and LAN Lite. IE-2000 names the family; 16 indicates copper-port count; TC describes copper/SFP-T connectivity; G indicates Gigabit uplinks; L specifies LAN Lite.
Industrial Ethernet 2000 switches support Web Device Manager, the Cisco IOS CLI, SNMP, Cisco Network Assistant, Cisco Prime Infrastructure/LMS, Catalyst Center, CIP tools and PROFINET tools such as STEP 7. Web access supports HTTPS; CLI access uses SSH, Telnet, the RJ-45 console or USB mini-Type B console. Central management licensing is separate.
IE-2000-16TC-G-L is discontinued, with end-of-sale on July 26, 2024 and final Cisco support on July 31, 2029. Software maintenance ended July 26, 2025; security-remedy support ends July 26, 2027. IE-2000-16TC-G-L supports two Gigabit dual-purpose uplinks and two 100Mbps SFP uplinks. Each Gigabit connection uses either its RJ-45 socket or its SFP cage; activating one medium disables the other for that port. The fixed interfaces do not accept removable uplink cards or provide additional Gigabit connections through the shared cages.
The Cisco IE 2000 switch accepts 9.6-60V DC through its DC-A and DC-B terminal inputs and operates from one or two external DC sources. With both sources present, the higher-voltage source supplies power; the other maintains operation if that source fails. Redundancy requires independent external sources rather than internal redundant PSU modules.
IE-2000-16TC-G-L mounts on a DIN rail using its rear latch; the 127 mm-wide chassis is not a full-width rack-mount switch. STK-RACK-DINRAIL= enables DIN rail installation in a standard equipment rack. Wallmount-IE2k-16= is the separate wall-mount accessory for the sixteen-port downlink configuration. Specify the mounting method with the hardware order.
IE-2000-16TC-G-L does not route IP traffic with its included LAN Lite license. LAN Base adds static IPv4 routing, while IP Lite adds RIP, OSPF and EIGRP plus IPv6 routing features. Those upgrade licenses are discontinued. A previously upgraded unit retains its printed part number, so verify the installed license rather than relying on the suffix.
IE-2000-16PTC-G-L supplies four PoE+ access ports, while IE-2000-16TC-G-L supplies none. Both models are discontinued, making this distinction relevant to existing-equipment matching rather than a current Cisco hardware order. The non-PoE configuration suits self-powered endpoints; the PoE configuration suits installations requiring powered access ports, subject to its external power requirements.
IE-2000-16TC-G-E ships with LAN Base, while IE-2000-16TC-G-L ships with LAN Lite. LAN Base adds static IPv4 routing, quality-of-service functions and additional security controls absent from LAN Lite. Both models are discontinued; LAN Lite suits basic Layer 2 equipment matching, while LAN Base suits retaining installations dependent on those additional functions.
IE-3100-18T2C-E provides eighteen Gigabit copper access ports, whereas IE-2000-16TC-G-L provides sixteen Fast Ethernet copper access ports. IE-3100-18T2C-E is the current replacement for the discontinued model. The older configuration suits matching established Fast Ethernet equipment; the successor suits migration to Gigabit copper access with a different access-port count.
