Cisco Industrial Ethernet 2000 switches serve cabinet-mounted automation networks connecting programmable logic controllers, human-machine interfaces, drives, sensors, and other industrial Ethernet equipment. 8000 MAC address entries retain learned endpoint addresses, while a 2 MB egress buffer holds packets awaiting transmission. IPv4 static routing supports local routed connections under the included feature tier; OSPF and EIGRP are not enabled by LAN Base. STP, LACP, and REP provide Ethernet topology controls, and IGMP snooping handles multicast membership. IE-2000-8TC-B carries 256 MB of DRAM and 64 MB of onboard flash for its operating image and configuration. DHCP snooping, Dynamic ARP Inspection, and IP Source Guard address spoofing and untrusted address assignments. Cisco IE 2000 also supports EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, and MODBUS TCP/IP for industrial integration. Two alarm inputs and one alarm output relay provide dry-contact signaling for cabinet status and external alarm circuits.

An existing machine cabinet is being rewired without changing its automation endpoints. The enclosure must reserve 50.8 mm clearance above, below, on both sides, and in front; terminals and console connections must remain accessible. Check the complete mechanical layout, protective grounding, and cable entry arrangement before specifying the cabinet bill of materials.
When maintenance stock must retain a deployment configuration, SD-IE-1GB= stores the software and configuration outside internal flash. SD-IE-1GB= is optional and is not included with the base unit. Record the approved image and site configuration, and include SD-IE-1GB= when configuration transfer is part of the replacement procedure.
Before a staged industrial rollout, the alarm output must match the external indicator or control circuit. The relay is rated 1A at 24V DC or 0.5A at 48V DC; the input contact circuits require no separate power. Check the load, terminal wiring, and protective ground before identifying alarm connection requirements on the purchase order.
Gigabit links to industrial endpoints
IE-2000-8TC-B limits endpoint links to 100 Mbps. IE-3100-8T2C-E provides eight Gigabit copper ports plus two Gigabit combo uplinks for replacement purchases requiring native Gigabit access.
PoE-powered endpoints without separate injectors
IE-2000-8TC-B supplies no PoE through its Ethernet ports. IE-3200-8P2S-E offers eight Gigabit PoE+ ports and two Gigabit SFP uplinks, changing both endpoint power and link speed.
Dynamic routing with the included license
OSPF and EIGRP require IP Lite rather than the included LAN Base license. IE-2000-8TC-B therefore does not provide dynamic routing in its as-shipped configuration.

IE-2000-8TC-B identifies an Industrial Ethernet 2000 switch with eight Fast Ethernet copper access ports, two Fast Ethernet uplinks, and LAN Base. IE-2000 identifies the series; 8TC identifies the eight-copper-port configuration with two uplinks; B selects LAN Base. The uplinks are dual-purpose copper or SFP connections.
IE-2000-8TC-B supports Web Device Manager, Cisco IOS CLI over SSH, Telnet, RJ-45 console or USB mini-Type B console, SNMP, Cisco Network Assistant, Prime Infrastructure, Prime LMS, Catalyst Center, CIP tools, and PROFINET STEP 7. Centralized management and local administration are separate choices; Catalyst Center access has its own licensing path.
IE-2000-8TC-B is discontinued: its end-of-sale date was July 26, 2024, and its last support date is July 31, 2029. Routine software maintenance ended July 26, 2025; security vulnerability support ends July 26, 2027. Existing service entitlements must remain valid for contract support during the remaining lifecycle period.

Cisco IE 2000 accepts external DC power through DC-A and DC-B inputs and can operate from one or two sources. IE-2000-8TC-B draws a maximum of 17W. When both sources are active, the higher-voltage feed supplies power; independent upstream sources are required for redundant feeding.
Industrial Ethernet 2000 switches require 50.8 mm clearance at the top, bottom, sides, and front for unrestricted airflow. The DIN rail installation must also leave power terminals, alarm wiring, and network ports accessible. Include these clearances in the cabinet layout rather than reserving only the chassis footprint.
Cisco IE 2000 operates from -40°C to 60°C in sealed enclosures, from -40°C to 70°C in vented enclosures with specified airflow, and from -34°C to 75°C in fan-equipped enclosures. Enclosure temperature and airflow determine the permitted range, so complete cabinet thermal planning before specifying equipment for machine installations.
IE-2000-16PTC-G-E has four PoE+ ports, while IE-2000-8TC-B does not power endpoints over Ethernet. Both models are discontinued. The PoE model fits legacy replacement requirements involving powered endpoints; IE-2000-8TC-B suits devices with independent power supplies. Confirm the required endpoint power arrangement before matching a replacement unit.
IE-2000-8TC-B includes LAN Base, whereas IE-2000-8TC-L includes LAN Lite. LAN Base adds IPv4 static routing to the baseline Layer 2 feature set. Both models are discontinued; IE-2000-8TC-B matches legacy static-routing requirements, while IE-2000-8TC-L matches installations requiring baseline Layer 2 switching without that feature.
IE-3100-8T2C-E supplies Gigabit links on its eight copper access ports, compared with the 100 Mbps access ports on IE-2000-8TC-B. The current replacement suits purchases that require native Gigabit endpoint connections rather than Fast Ethernet.
