17W maximum mainboard draw establishes the board's contribution to host power sizing; the completed system must account separately for its other circuitry. Line-rate forwarding covers all ports and packet sizes. A 16000-entry MAC table and 256 VLAN IDs establish endpoint-learning and segmentation limits, while eight queues support traffic prioritization. ESS-3300-NCP-E provides 4 GB DRAM and 4 GB onboard flash, including 1.5 GB user-accessible storage for files. RSTP, MSTP, LACP, and REP support loop control, aggregation, and ring redundancy. MACsec-128 is available only on Gigabit downlinks. Uplink interfaces do not support 100 Mbps SFP transceivers, although the optical combo interfaces can use them. When replacing discontinued ESS-2020-NCP or ESS-2020-NCP-B hardware, the migration starts with a host-design compatibility review rather than a rack-switch substitution. Both older mainboards reached end of sale on July 19, 2022. Specify verification of the existing enclosure, interface wiring, power delivery, and thermal implementation before issuing the replacement-board PO.
When a single host design will be standardized across sites, the completed assembly needs its own compliance testing. Results for the switch in a representative enclosure do not certify a different finished product. Specify assembled-system EMC and safety validation before releasing volume purchase orders for the common equipment build.
When staging spare boards that have held configuration or credentials, secure data wipe in Cisco IOS XE 17.10.1 and later erases internal flash, including the operating image. Removable SD or USB media require separate handling. Specify image-restoration and external-media procedures before preparing the spare-board purchase order.
Dynamic routing without license upgrades
Network Essentials does not enable dynamic IP routing. ESS-3300-NCP-A supplies Network Advantage on the same mainboard for buyers requiring those routing features at delivery.

ESS-3300-NCP-E omits the cooling plate and requires a custom thermal solution. ESS-3300-CON-E includes the cooling plate with the same mainboard and Network Essentials tier.

The bare mainboard exports network signals through board-to-board connectors rather than built-in RJ-45 jacks or optical cages. A finished host assembly must provide the external connections.

ESS-3300-NCP-E identifies an Embedded Services 3300 mainboard without a cooling plate, supplied with Network Essentials software. ESS-3300 identifies the mainboard family, NCP means no cooling plate, and E selects Network Essentials. This configuration contains the mainboard rather than the mainboard-and-expansion-board bundle.
ESS-3300-NCP-E supports Web UI, Cisco IOS CLI through RS-232 or USB console, SSH or Telnet, plus SNMP, NETCONF, and RESTCONF. The family also supports IND and Cisco Prime. Enable the Web UI before browser access and expose the required console connections in the host equipment.
ESS-3300-NCP-E is available in the Embedded Services 3300 family. Cisco has not announced an end-of-sale date for Embedded Services 3300.
