IE-3500-8U3X-A is a fanless, managed Layer 3 industrial switch with eight Gigabit copper downlinks supporting PoE++, three fixed 10G SFP+ uplinks, and Network Advantage. The DIN-rail chassis separates powered endpoint connections from fiber uplinks and accepts an optional expansion module rather than requiring another complete switch for additional connections. The Cisco IE3500 Rugged Series serves factory automation, transportation, energy, and process-control networks, including cameras, wireless access points, and programmable logic controllers. IE-3500-8T3X-A omits endpoint power delivery, distinguishing the non-PoE sibling from this powered configuration. Uplink cages are built into the base chassis; expansion capability does not mean an uplink card must be installed before connecting fiber.
IE-3500-8U3X-A price is $8,728.65, a 30% saving from the Cisco list price of $12,475.00. IE-3500-8U3X-A is in stock and available for next-day dispatch. (terms applied)

480W of shared PoE budget requires endpoint power allocation rather than maximum simultaneous draw on every powered connection. 49W of switch consumption excludes power delivered to attached PoE devices, so external supply sizing must account for those loads separately. OSPF, BGP, ISIS, and EIGRP support IPv4 and IPv6 routing, while PIM-SM and PIM-DM provide multicast routing. Line-rate forwarding covers every port and packet size without assigning an unsupported numerical forwarding rate. IE-3500-8U3X-A supports 24000 unicast MAC addresses for endpoint address learning. User-accessible flash provides 5.1 GB for local software and configuration storage; software installation requires free flash space of at least twice the image size. Across Cisco Industrial Ethernet deployments, REP and MRP provide ring redundancy, but HSR and PRP are unavailable on this model. Network segmentation also includes VRF-lite and MACsec-256, while 32 switched virtual interfaces establish a separate planning limit for routed VLAN interfaces.
ORM Systems supplies IE-3500-8U3X-A new sealed or certified refurbished, with up to a three-year extended warranty for new units and up to one year for certified refurbished units. Refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on, POST, rated-speed port links, clean boot, optics bay recognition, and PoE output under load on every powered port; firmware is verified and configurations are wiped to factory default. Specify condition, quantity, and accessory PIDs before ordering this switch; 30-day returns apply to every condition, subject to terms. Submit enterprise and volume requirements with the PO: PO accepted, Net-30 for government, and RMA with advance replacement across UK, EU, US, and MEA.

When a cabinet refresh requires additional copper connections without another switch, IEM-3500-16T= adds 16 Gigabit ports and brings the system to 27 Ethernet ports. Include the expansion module in the purchase order and confirm the assembled cabinet space before committing quantities.
When standardized control cabinets leave little free space around networking equipment, reserve at least 25 mm above, below, beside, and in front of the switch for unrestricted airflow. Include cable routing and external power equipment in the cabinet layout, then verify those clearances before releasing the purchase order.
When a staging build uses Cisco IOS XE 26.2.1, the HTTPS server is disabled by default outside Express Setup. Browser-based management therefore needs explicit enablement before handover. Specify the intended software release and management-access configuration in the staging requirements before ordering the production units.
Native multigigabit copper access
The eight built-in copper downlinks are limited to Gigabit Ethernet; higher copper speeds require a separately ordered IEM-3500-4MU= expansion module with four 2.5G ports.
HSR or PRP ring participation
IE-3500-8U3X-A does not support HSR or PRP. IE3505 variants provide these protocols, but their fixed fiber uplinks are 1G rather than 10G.
Eight simultaneous 90W powered endpoints
IE-3500-8U3X-A shares a 480W PoE budget across powered connections. Individual 90W capability does not permit every base port to deliver that maximum simultaneously.

IE-3500-8U3X-A identifies an IE3500 modular industrial switch: IE-3500 names the family, 8 indicates eight Gigabit copper ports, U identifies PoE/PoE+/4PPoE support, 3X identifies three 10G fiber uplinks, and A identifies Network Advantage. Modular refers to optional expansion capability, not a requirement to install an uplink card.
IE-3500-8U3X-A supports WebUI, console CLI, SSH, Telnet, Catalyst Center, and Meraki dashboard management. Automation and monitoring paths include SNMP, NETCONF, RESTCONF, and gRPC telemetry. Meraki management requires compatible software and licensing; browser access on Cisco IOS XE 26.2.1 requires HTTPS enablement outside Express Setup.
Cisco has not announced an end-of-sale date for IE3500 Rugged. IE-3500-8U3X-A remains available to order. Procurement records should identify the exact hardware and license variant, since lifecycle milestones for other Industrial Ethernet families do not establish an end-of-sale date for this series.
ORM Systems offers IE-3500-8U3X-A new sealed or certified refurbished, with new extended warranty up to three years and refurbished warranty up to one year. Cisco's platform warranty is five-year limited hardware coverage, separate from ORM's order warranty. Every condition includes 30-day returns; terms apply. Refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested.
IE-3500-8U3X-A includes perpetual Network Advantage; optional Cisco DNA Essentials or Cisco DNA Advantage provides Catalyst Center licensing with a minimum three-year term. Meraki management uses LIC-IE3500-E Enterprise or LIC-IE3500-A Advantage. Qualifying Network Advantage orders also include three-year Cyber Vision Advantage and Secure Equipment Access Advantage licenses for 24 endpoints.
IE-3500-8U3X-A provides a shared 480W PoE budget and supports as much as 90W on an individual base port. That budget remains shared when a powered expansion module is attached. Allocate endpoint loads and configure the available budget to match the installed external power equipment before deployment.
IE-3500-8U3X-A has three fixed SFP+ uplink cages supporting 1G or 10G connections. SFP-10G-SR-I= is a supported industrial-temperature option for multimode fiber. Select optics for the installed fiber and distance, and account for temperature derating when using nonindustrial transceivers in an industrial enclosure.
The IE3500 Rugged powered switch accepts IEM-3500-8P= or IEM-3500-16P= to add eight or sixteen Gigabit PoE/PoE+ ports respectively. PoE expansion modules require a PoE-capable host. Expansion increases connection density without increasing this model's total PoE allocation, so include the module's electrical load in supply sizing.
Yes, IE-3500-8U3X-A accepts two external DC feeds and can operate from either one. When both feeds are active, the higher-voltage source supplies power; the other continues operation if that source fails. With two PoE-capable supplies, configure the PoE budget for the smaller-capacity supply rather than combining their ratings.
The Network Advantage industrial switch supports OSPF, BGP, ISIS, and EIGRP for IPv4 and IPv6 routing. Static routing, RIP, PBR, HSRP, PIM-SM, and PIM-DM are also available. Select the routing and multicast requirements before ordering; optional controller licenses do not replace the perpetual network feature tier.
IE-3500-8U3X-A supplies PoE, PoE+, and 4PPoE, whereas IE-3500-8T3X-A has non-PoE copper ports. Both configurations retain the same access-port density and fixed uplink speed. The powered model suits endpoints receiving power over Ethernet; the non-PoE model suits equipment with its own power connection.
IE-3500-8U3X-A includes Network Advantage, while IE-3500-8U3X-E includes Network Essentials. The physical copper connections, fiber uplinks, and PoE allocation are unchanged by that license distinction. Choose the A variant for the advanced network feature tier; choose the E variant when Network Essentials covers the required configuration.
IE-3500-8U3X-A carries three 10G-capable SFP+ uplinks, whereas IE-3500-8P3S-A carries three 1G SFP uplinks. That uplink distinction determines the fiber connection speed available from the base chassis. Specify the first model for 10G uplink requirements and the second when the required fiber connections remain at 1G.
