IE-3500-8P3S-E is a fanless Layer 3 industrial Ethernet switch with eight Gigabit RJ-45 PoE+ downlinks, three fixed Gigabit SFP uplinks and a DIN rail chassis. The Cisco IE3500 Rugged Series serves factory automation, energy, transportation and process-control networks, connecting controllers, cameras and wireless access points over copper while providing fiber connectivity toward the wider network. Network Essentials is the perpetual software tier supplied with this model. The fixed uplinks remain separate from the optional access-port expansion interface; adding access ports does not convert the built-in uplinks to 10G. Compared with IE-3500-8T3S-E, this configuration supplies endpoint power rather than data-only copper connections. This managed industrial Ethernet switch combines local switching and routed access without a rack-width chassis.
IE-3500-8P3S-E price is $5,820.15, a 28.2% saving from the Cisco list price of $8,101.00. IE-3500-8P3S-E is in stock and available for next-day dispatch. (terms applied)

Line-rate forwarding across all ports and packet sizes handles traffic at each interface's rated speed. 240W of base-switch PoE capacity is shared by powered endpoints; chassis consumption remains separate from the attached PoE load. Static routing, OSPF, OSPFv3, RIP and PBR support routed access under the supplied tier, while EIGRP and IS-IS require Network Advantage. Address resources include 24000 MAC entries, 1024 active VLANs and 32 SVIs for segmentation planning. User-accessible flash provides 5.1 GB for system images, configuration data and files. IE-3500-8P3S-E supports RSTP, MSTP, LACP and IGMP snooping for loop prevention, link aggregation and multicast distribution. MACsec-128, DHCP snooping, dynamic ARP inspection and IP source guard are included security features. PROFINET and CIP EtherNet/IP provide industrial-protocol integration, while IEEE 1588 PTP v2 supports synchronization. Local WebUI and SSH CLI access combine with SNMPv3 and NETCONF/RESTCONF for configuration and monitoring.
ORM Systems supplies IE-3500-8P3S-E new sealed or certified refurbished. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on and POST, every port linking at rated speed, clean boot, PoE output under load on every powered port and optics bay recognition; firmware is verified and configuration wiped to factory default. Specify the condition on the PO: new units carry up to a 3-year extended warranty, certified refurbished units carry up to 1 year, and both have 30-day returns, terms apply; Cisco's separate hardware warranty is five-year limited coverage. Submit enterprise and volume POs with required accessories itemized; Net-30 for government and RMA with advance replacement are available across UK, EU, US and MEA operations.

When a cabinet's powered-endpoint inventory changes, select the external supply against the complete connected load rather than the switch model alone. PWR-IE480W-PCAC-L= is a supported supply option. With redundant sources, the configured PoE allocation must match the smaller-capacity supply. Specify both supply PIDs and the intended allocation before the PO.
When an existing cabinet needs additional powered connections, IEM-3500-16P= adds sixteen Gigabit PoE+ access ports and brings the complete system to twenty-seven network ports. The expanded system shares a 360W PoE ceiling. Module attachment requires the equipment to be de-energized, so specify the expansion PID and installation shutdown requirement before ordering.
When maintaining a staged replacement for an industrial cabinet, include SD-IE-16GB= if the replacement procedure uses removable configuration storage. The 16 GB card is optional and does not ship with the base switch. Establish the image and configuration transfer procedure, then specify the card separately on the spare-unit PO.
10G fiber uplinks from the base
The built-in fiber uplinks stop at 1G. IE-3500-8U3X-E provides three 10G SFP+ uplinks while retaining eight Gigabit copper downlinks, but changes endpoint power capability to PoE++.
EIGRP or IS-IS without an upgrade
Network Essentials does not include EIGRP or IS-IS. IE-3500-8P3S-A supplies Network Advantage with those routing capabilities while retaining the same copper and fiber port configuration.
PRP or HSR network redundancy
PRP and HSR require IE3505 hardware rather than this IE3500 variant. IE-3505-8P3S-E retains eight Gigabit PoE+ copper ports and three Gigabit SFP ports with the required hardware capabilities.

IE-3500-8P3S-E identifies an IE3500 modular industrial switch: IE-3500 names the family, 8P denotes eight Gigabit PoE/PoE+ copper ports, 3S denotes three Gigabit SFP ports, and E specifies Network Essentials. The modular description refers to access-port expansion, not a replaceable uplink card; the three fiber uplinks are built into the chassis.
IE3500 Rugged switches support WebUI, CLI through RJ-45 or USB-C console connections, remote SSH or Telnet, SNMP, NETCONF, RESTCONF, Catalyst Center and Meraki dashboard management. Meraki management requires Cisco IOS XE 26.1.1 or later on the base switch, with expansion-module support dependent on a later supporting release.
Cisco has not announced an end-of-sale date for IE3500 Rugged. IE-3500-8P3S-E is available to order and serves as a migration model for discontinued IE4000 switches. The predecessor family's July 26, 2024 end-of-sale milestone does not describe the lifecycle of this IE3500 model.
ORM Systems offers IE-3500-8P3S-E new sealed or certified refurbished, with up to a 3-year extended warranty for new units and up to 1 year for certified refurbished units. Cisco's separate warranty is five-year limited hardware coverage. Both ORM conditions include 30-day returns, terms apply; refurbished units are inspected, bench-tested, firmware-verified and wiped to factory default.
IE-3500-8P3S-E includes perpetual Network Essentials; IE3500-NW-A= upgrades to perpetual Network Advantage. Optional Cisco Catalyst Center DNA Essentials and DNA Advantage subscriptions offer three-, five- or seven-year terms, with DNA Advantage requiring Network Advantage. Meraki Enterprise LIC-IE3500-E and Meraki Advantage LIC-IE3500-A provide cloud-management paths. Standalone operation requires no mandatory Catalyst Center subscription.
IE-3500-8P3S-E replaces discontinued IE-4000-4GC4GP4G-E, IE-4000-4GS8GP4G-E, IE-4000-4S8P4G-E, IE-4000-4T4P4G-E and IE-4000-8GT8GP4G-E. Those models reached end of sale July 26, 2024, with last support scheduled July 31, 2029. Migration is not a port-for-port substitution: verify existing copper, fiber and powered-endpoint connections, then specify any required access-port expansion separately.
IE-3500-8P3S-E provides a 240W PoE budget across its eight built-in PoE+ ports, with a 360W total ceiling when a compatible powered expansion is installed. Those budgets depend on the selected external supply. The chassis consumes 32W separately from attached PoE loads, and 54V DC input is required for PoE+ operation.
IE3500 Rugged Gigabit SFP uplinks accept compatible 100M or 1G transceivers, including industrial GLC-SX-MM-RGD= for multimode fiber and GLC-LX-SM-RGD= for single-mode fiber applications. The uplink cages do not become 10G ports when different optics are inserted. Nonindustrial transceivers require the switch's operating-temperature range to be reduced.
IE-3500-8P3S-E supports IEM-3500-8T=, IEM-3500-16T=, IEM-3500-8S=, IEM-3500-6T2S=, IEM-3500-14T2S=, IEM-3500-8P=, IEM-3500-16P= and IEM-3500-4MU=. These provide copper, fiber, PoE+ or multigigabit powered expansion choices. The largest sixteen-port expansion brings the complete system to twenty-seven network ports. Expansion hardware requires the base switch and must not be attached or removed while energized.
Yes, IE-3500-8P3S-E supports Layer 3 routing with static routes, OSPF, OSPFv3, RIP, PBR and inter-VLAN routing under Network Essentials. EIGRP and IS-IS belong to Network Advantage rather than the supplied tier. Specify IE3500-NW-A= when those additional routing capabilities are required; a management subscription does not replace the network-tier license.
Yes, IE-3500-8P3S-E can use two external DC sources through its DC-A and DC-B inputs. The switch normally draws from the source with the higher voltage and continues on the alternate source if one fails. For PoE redundancy, configure the allocation against the smaller-capacity supply rather than adding both supply ratings together.
An IE3500 Rugged switch mounts vertically on a compatible DIN rail using its rear hooks and spring-loaded latch. Installation requires at least 25 mm clearance above, below, beside and in front of the equipment. STK-RACK-DINRAIL= provides a rack DIN rail mounting option without changing the base chassis into a full-width rack switch.
IE-3500-8P3S-E supplies PoE/PoE+ on its eight Gigabit copper ports, whereas IE-3500-8T3S-E provides data-only copper connections. Both carry three Gigabit SFP uplinks and Network Essentials. The powered model suits endpoints receiving power over Ethernet; the data-only model suits equipment powered independently and does not provide an endpoint PoE budget.
IE-3500-8P3S-E ships with Network Essentials, while IE-3500-8P3S-A ships with Network Advantage. Their eight Gigabit PoE+ copper ports and three Gigabit SFP uplinks are the same. Network Essentials suits the included switching and routed-access functions; Network Advantage suits requirements such as EIGRP, IS-IS, VRF-lite and additional multicast-routing capabilities.
IE-3500-8U3X-E provides three 10G SFP+ uplinks, whereas IE-3500-8P3S-E provides three Gigabit SFP uplinks. Both are Network Essentials variants with eight built-in Gigabit copper downlinks. The Gigabit-uplink model suits fiber connections limited to 1G; the 10G-uplink model suits aggregation links that require greater native uplink speed.
