IE-3505-8P3S-A combines fanless industrial operation with managed Layer 3 switching, eight Gigabit PoE+ copper access ports, and three fixed Gigabit SFP uplinks. Its DIN-rail chassis belongs to the Cisco IE3500 Rugged Series and includes the Network Advantage feature tier for routed industrial networks. Copper interfaces connect powered cameras, wireless access points, and automation endpoints, while fiber uplinks connect the industrial access network to aggregation. The advanced modular design supports HSR, PRP, and DLR for installations specifying industrial ring or parallel-network redundancy. The nearest unpowered alternative, IE-3505-8T3S-A, retains the advanced modular design but omits PoE on its copper access ports. An optional expansion module attaches to the base when additional copper or fiber access connections are required.
IE-3505-8P3S-A price is $7,899.15, a 41.3% saving from the Cisco list price of $13,464.00. IE-3505-8P3S-A is in stock and available for next-day dispatch. (terms applied)

240W of base PoE budget provides the shared allocation for connected endpoints; source capacity must also cover switch operation. 42W switch consumption excludes PoE device power, so that figure is not the total requirement of a powered installation. Line-rate forwarding covers all ports and packet sizes, while ingress policing and egress shaping provide traffic controls. OSPF, OSPFv3, BGP, EIGRP, and IS-IS support routed connections under Network Advantage, with PIM-SM and PIM-DM available for multicast routing. IE-3505-8P3S-A maintains 24000 MAC entries for endpoint addressing and provides 5.1 GB of user-accessible flash for software and configuration files. The IE3500 family also supports 1024 active VLANs and 32 SVIs for segmentation, alongside STP/RSTP/MSTP and LACP for Layer 2 topology control. MACsec-256 protects links, and VRF-lite separates routing contexts. Native copper ports do not deliver 4PPoE; that capability requires different hardware rather than a Network Advantage license upgrade.
IE-3505-8P3S-A is available new sealed or certified refurbished; specify condition, accessories, and license entitlements on the purchase order. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested, including PoE output verified under load on every powered port; firmware is verified and configurations wiped to factory default. ORM warranty is up to 3-year extended for new units and up to 1 year for certified refurbished units, with 30-day returns on every condition; terms apply. Enterprise and volume purchases accept POs, with Net-30 for government, RMA with advance replacement, and regional stock and RMA in the UK, EU, US, and MEA.

When an industrial cabinet needs additional powered connections, IEM-3500-16P= adds sixteen Gigabit PoE/PoE+ ports and takes the complete system to 27 Ethernet ports. The expanded system has a 480W PoE ceiling subject to source capacity. Specify the expansion module and size the external power equipment before the PO.
Before standardizing a firmware image across an industrial rollout, account for Cisco IOS XE 26.2.1 factory defaults: WebUI and RESTCONF require explicit ip http secure-server enablement. Express Setup retains its existing behavior. Specify the required image and management-service configuration in the staging instructions before issuing the PO.
For a spare-stock program that moves configurations between replacement units, include SD-IE-16GB= separately because removable storage does not ship with the base switch. The protected card socket supports file transfer and Swap Drive replacement workflows. Specify storage media and configuration-transfer procedures before the PO.
10G fiber uplinks on the base
IE-3505-8P3S-A limits its fixed fiber uplinks to 1G. IE-3500-8U3X-A provides three 10G-capable SFP+ uplinks, but does not provide the IE3505-specific HSR, PRP, and DLR functions.
4PPoE on native copper ports
The base copper ports support PoE/PoE+, not 4PPoE. IE-3500-8U3X-A supports 4PPoE on its native copper ports and also changes the fixed uplinks to 10G.
Exposed installation without an enclosure
IE-3505-8P3S-A is open-type industrial equipment and requires a suitable protective enclosure. The DIN-rail mounting latch does not replace the required enclosure or its environmental protection.

IE-3505-8P3S-A identifies an IE3500 advanced modular switch: IE-3505 identifies the advanced modular base, 8P denotes eight Gigabit PoE/PoE+ copper ports, 3S denotes three Gigabit SFP ports, and A denotes Network Advantage. The fiber uplinks are built into the base rather than supplied by an expansion module.
IE-3505-8P3S-A supports WebUI, console CLI, SSH, Telnet, SNMP, NETCONF, RESTCONF, gRPC/MDT, Catalyst Center, and Meraki dashboard management. Console access uses RJ-45 serial or USB Type-C. Meraki management requires Cisco IOS XE 26.1.1 or later on the base switch; Meraki support for expansion modules is planned for a future release.
IE-3505-8P3S-A provides a 240W base-switch PoE budget across its eight PoE/PoE+ copper ports. The system ceiling rises to 480W with a compatible powered expansion module, subject to installed DC source capacity. Adding a second supply does not automatically increase the allocation; the complete powered configuration must be sized together.
IE-3505-8P3S-A includes perpetual Network Advantage; optional Catalyst Center DNA Essentials and DNA Advantage start at three years. Meraki management uses Enterprise LIC-IE3500-E or Advantage LIC-IE3500-A. Eligible Network Advantage orders also include three-year, 24-endpoint Advantage licenses for Cisco Cyber Vision and Secure Equipment Access, separate from the perpetual network license.
IE-3505-8P3S-A accepts one or two external DC sources through DC-A and DC-B; PWR-IE480W-PCAC-L= is a supported supply option. With two PoE-capable supplies, set the system budget to the smaller supply's capacity. Source sizing must cover switch, expansion-module, and endpoint loads. PoE+ operation requires 54V DC.
IE-3505-8P3S-A accepts one expansion module, including IEM-3500-8P=, IEM-3500-16P=, IEM-3500-8S=, IEM-3500-8T=, IEM-3500-16T=, IEM-3500-6T2S=, IEM-3500-14T2S=, or IEM-3500-4MU=. These modules add copper, fiber, or multigigabit access ports. IEM-3500-4MU= does not support HSR, PRP, DLR, or PTP, so its ports cannot be assumed to inherit those industrial functions from the host.
Yes, IE-3505-8P3S-A supports Layer 3 routing under Network Advantage, including OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, and IS-IS. The tier also enables VRF-lite and PIM-SM/PIM-DM for routing-context separation and multicast routing. Match those requirements to the ordered license rather than treating all IE3500 network license variants as equivalent.
IE3500 Rugged supports GLC-SX-MM-RGD= for industrial-temperature Gigabit multimode fiber links and other compatible SFP options matched to the link design. Nonindustrial optics require temperature derating. Select transceivers by fiber type, distance, and temperature grade rather than treating every mechanically compatible SFP as suitable for an industrial installation.
Cisco has not announced an end-of-sale date for IE3500 Rugged. IE-3505-8P3S-A remains part of the available IE3500 Rugged family. Match the ordered Network Advantage variant to the required access configuration, and treat separately purchased management-license terms as distinct from the hardware's lifecycle rather than as a hardware retirement date.
IE-3505-8P3S-A supplies PoE/PoE+ on eight Gigabit copper ports, whereas IE-3505-8T3S-A provides unpowered Gigabit copper access. Endpoint power therefore belongs in the selection decision before accessories are specified. Choose the powered model for devices needing switch-delivered power, or the unpowered variant when endpoint power comes from another source.
IE-3505-8P3S-A includes Network Advantage, while IE-3505-8P3S-E includes Network Essentials. Network Advantage adds BGP, EIGRP, IS-IS, VRF-lite, and PIM-SM/PIM-DM beyond the Essentials feature set. The A variant serves routed and segmented industrial networks needing those additions; the E variant suits deployments staying within the Essentials feature set.
IE-3505-8P3S-A has three 1G SFP uplinks, whereas IE-3500-8U3X-A has three 10G-capable SFP+ uplinks. Both use pluggable uplink transceivers, so optical link requirements belong on the equipment schedule. The 1G model suits Gigabit distribution connections; the 10G model suits installations requiring faster aggregation links.
New sealed and certified refurbished IE-3505-8P3S-A units carry ORM warranties of up to 3-year extended and up to 1 year, respectively. Cisco's platform hardware warranty is five-year limited and remains separate from ORM coverage. Returns are 30 days on every condition; terms apply. Specify the required condition on the purchase order.
