IE-3500-8P3S-A is a rugged, managed Layer 3 industrial switch with eight Gigabit copper PoE+ ports, three fixed Gigabit SFP uplinks, and DIN rail mounting. Network Advantage is included as a perpetual network license, giving this variant its routed-access feature set without a network-tier upgrade. The Cisco IE3500 Rugged Series serves factory automation, process control, transportation, and energy installations connecting controllers, IP cameras, and wireless access points. Optional IEM-3500-8T= and IEM-3500-8S= add copper or fiber downlinks; these expansion units do not replace the built-in uplinks. The closest non-PoE sibling, IE-3500-8T3S-A, keeps the same access-port count and fiber-uplink configuration but does not supply endpoint power. Native copper links support speed and duplex autonegotiation for mixed industrial endpoints.
IE-3500-8P3S-A price is $8,319.15, a 28.2% saving from the Cisco list price of $11,586.00. IE-3500-8P3S-A is in stock and available for next-day dispatch. (terms applied)

Line-rate forwarding across all ports and packet sizes keeps traffic handling at interface speed. 240W of base PoE capacity is allocated among the powered ports, so endpoint demand and the selected supply determine the usable allocation. OSPF, BGP, IS-IS, and EIGRP provide dynamic routing, while PIM-SM and PIM-DM handle routed multicast traffic. IE-3500-8P3S-A provides 5.1 GB of user-accessible flash for software, configuration data, and other files. The IE3500 forwarding resources accommodate 24000 unicast MAC addresses and 1024 active VLANs for address learning and segment separation. Eight queues support ingress policing and egress shaping. STP, RSTP, MSTP, and LACP support loop control and link aggregation; MACsec-256 supplies link encryption. Two alarm inputs and one alarm output relay connect external monitoring circuits, with configurable power, environmental, and port alarms. PRP, HSR, and DLR are not supported on this hardware variant.
ORM Systems offers IE-3500-8P3S-A new sealed or certified refurbished, with up to a three-year extended ORM warranty for new units and up to one year for certified refurbished units; both conditions include 30-day returns, terms apply. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on and POST, every port linking at rated speed, clean boot, PoE output under load on every powered port, and optics bay recognition, with firmware verified and configuration wiped to factory default. Specify the condition, accessories, and order quantity on your PO. Enterprise and volume purchasing includes PO acceptance, Net-30 for government, and RMA with advance replacement across UK, EU, US, and MEA regional stock and RMA.
| Key Specs | Key Spec Values |
|---|---|
Operating System | Cisco IOS XE |
License Tier | Network Advantage |
Port Configuration | 8 x 1G PoE+ / 3 x 1G SFP |
PoE Budget | 240W base / 360W with compatible PoE expansion |
Where an industrial cabinet needs more connections than the base chassis provides, IEM-3500-16P= adds 16 Gigabit PoE+ ports and brings the system to 27 Ethernet ports. The expanded system shares a 360W PoE ceiling rather than providing an independent budget for each port. Specify IEM-3500-16P= and size the external supply before the PO.
When a rollout places switching inside industrial cabinets, enclosure sizing must include 25 mm clearance above, below, beside, and in front of the chassis. The equipment requires a suitable enclosure rather than unrestricted placement on an exposed rail. Check cable access, enclosure suitability, and mounting clearances before specifying the cabinet assembly.
When a staging plan calls for Meraki cloud management, the switch needs Cisco IOS XE 26.1.1 or later in install mode before migration. Conversion formats local file systems and removes the previous configuration. Back up commissioning files, validate compatibility, and specify the cloud-management license before the PO.
10G fiber uplinks
IE-3500-8P3S-A has three 1G SFP uplinks, not 10G. IE-3500-8U3X-A provides three 10G SFP+ uplinks and also changes the endpoint power class to 4PPoE.
PRP, HSR, or DLR redundancy
IE-3500-8P3S-A does not support PRP, HSR, or DLR. IE-3505-8P3S-A supports these industrial redundancy functions and retains eight Gigabit PoE+ copper downlinks.

IE-3500-8P3S-A identifies an IE3500 modular industrial switch with eight Gigabit PoE/PoE+ copper ports, three Gigabit SFP ports, and Network Advantage. IE-3500 identifies the family, 8P denotes the eight powered copper ports, 3S denotes the three SFP ports, and A selects Network Advantage rather than Network Essentials.
IE-3500-8P3S-A supports on-device WebUI, CLI through RJ-45 or USB-C console and SSH/Telnet, CIP-based management tools, SNMP, NETCONF, RESTCONF, Catalyst Center, and Meraki dashboard management. Meraki cloud mode requires compatible software and changes the management workflow: after migration, console access is unavailable and configuration is controlled through the dashboard.
Cisco has not announced an end-of-sale date for IE3500 Rugged. IE-3500-8P3S-A remains available to order rather than being discontinued. Hardware lifecycle status is separate from optional software-management subscription expiration; the included perpetual network license is not a timed subscription requiring routine renewal for basic operation.
ORM Systems offers IE-3500-8P3S-A new sealed or certified refurbished, with up to a three-year extended ORM warranty for new units and up to one year for refurbished units. Both conditions include 30-day returns, terms apply. Cisco separately provides a five-year limited hardware warranty; Cisco coverage is distinct from ORM's order warranty.
IE-3500-8P3S-A includes perpetual Network Advantage; Cisco DNA is optional. Cisco DNA Essentials and Cisco DNA Advantage offer three-, five-, or seven-year terms. Meraki Enterprise LIC-IE3500-E and Meraki Advantage LIC-IE3500-A cover cloud management. Eligible Network Advantage orders include three-year Cisco Cyber Vision and Secure Equipment Access Advantage licenses for 24 endpoints.
IE-3500-8P3S-A has a 240W base PoE budget and a 360W total ceiling with IEM-3500-16P= attached. The base switch consumes 32W separately from endpoint power. PoE+ operation requires 54V DC nominal input; size the external supply for switch overhead, IEM-3500-16P= consumption, and the configured endpoint allocation.
Yes, IE3500 Rugged switches accept one or two external DC sources through DC-A and DC-B. With both sources operating, the higher-voltage source supplies the load; the alternate maintains power if that source fails. For PoE failover, configure the system budget against the smaller supply rather than adding the two supply capacities.
IE-3500-8P3S-A powers endpoints through eight PoE/PoE+ copper ports, while IE-3500-8T3S-A has eight non-PoE copper ports. Both configurations use Gigabit downlinks, three Gigabit SFP uplinks, and Network Advantage. Choose the powered version for PoE-fed equipment; the non-PoE version suits endpoints with separate power sources.
IE-3500-8P3S-A includes Network Advantage, whereas IE-3500-8P3S-E includes Network Essentials. The copper ports and fixed SFP uplinks have the same configuration. Network Advantage adds BGP, EIGRP, IS-IS, and advanced multicast routing; Advantage suits those requirements, while Essentials serves deployments using its included switching and routing functions.
IE-3500-8U3X-A provides three 10G SFP+ uplinks where IE-3500-8P3S-A provides three 1G SFP uplinks. The 10G version also supports 4PPoE, so the change is not limited to optics. Specify IE-3500-8P3S-A for Gigabit fiber aggregation; IE-3500-8U3X-A suits requirements that include 10G upstream links.
