Fanless Industrial Switching for Powered Ethernet Endpoints

IE-3505-8P3S-E is a fanless Layer 3 industrial switch with eight Gigabit Ethernet PoE+ copper ports, three fixed Gigabit SFP uplinks and Network Essentials software. The IE3500 Rugged chassis mounts on DIN rail rather than occupying a full-width rack position. Its fixed fiber connections serve the upstream network while the copper interfaces connect powered industrial endpoints. IE-3505-8T3S-E provides the corresponding non-PoE configuration for installations that do not require endpoint power.

IE-3505-8P3S-E price is $6,534.15, a 34.5% saving from the Cisco list price of $9,979.00. IE-3505-8P3S-E is in stock and available for next-day dispatch. (terms applied)

Technical Details

Line-rate forwarding across all ports and packet sizes supports simultaneous traffic through the installed interfaces. 240W of base-switch PoE capacity must be allocated against connected endpoint demand. Static routing, OSPF, OSPFv3, RIP and PBR support routed access under Network Essentials; broader routing features require Network Advantage. IE-3505-8P3S-E provides 5.1 GB of user-accessible flash for local files. Cisco IOS XE supplies the operating environment, with RSTP, MSTP and LACP available for Ethernet topology control. The Cisco IE3505 Rugged Series also provides alarm connections for integrating switch status with external monitoring equipment.

Ordering

Specify IE-3505-8P3S-E in new sealed or certified refurbished condition, and identify the required power source and accessories on the purchase order. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on and POST, clean boot, every port linking at rated speed, PoE output under load on every powered port, optics bay recognition and module bay recognition; firmware is verified and configuration wiped to factory default. New units carry up to a 3-year extended warranty, refurbished units up to 1 year, and every condition includes 30-day returns, terms apply; Cisco’s separate platform warranty is five-year limited hardware coverage. Enterprise and volume orders can use accepted POs, government Net-30 terms, and RMA with advance replacement across UK, EU, US and MEA regions.

Buying Notes

Buying NotesKey Specs

Optional management licensing paths

IE-3505-8P3S-E requires no mandatory Cisco DNA subscription. Optional Cisco DNA Essentials and Cisco DNA Advantage start at three years; Meraki Enterprise LIC-IE3500-E and Meraki Advantage LIC-IE3500-A provide cloud-management licensing.

Dual inputs do not combine

Dual DC inputs provide source failover rather than additive PoE capacity. With unequal PoE-capable sources, configure the system budget against the smaller source and include chassis, expansion-module and endpoint demand when sizing power.

Industrial optics temperature limits

Industrial-temperature fiber connections can use GLC-SX-MM-RGD= for multimode fiber or GLC-LX-SM-RGD= for single-mode fiber. Commercial-temperature optics reduce the permitted switch operating temperature, making transceiver temperature ratings an ordering consideration.

Best For

Industrial Port Expansion

An industrial cabinet requiring more endpoint connections can add one expansion module to the base chassis. Expansion modules are not hot swappable and cannot be chained together. Select the required interface mix and schedule powered-down installation before specifying the complete assembly on the purchase order.

Replacement Unit Staging

A maintenance team preparing replacement units can use SD-IE-16GB= for removable configuration storage and the swap-drive workflow. The card is optional rather than included in the standard package. Include SD-IE-16GB= in the staging order and establish the configuration-copy procedure before placing spares into inventory.

Not Suitable If

10G fiber uplinks

The three fixed uplinks stop at 1G. IE-3500-8U3X-E provides three 10G uplinks while retaining eight copper access ports and offering a different endpoint-power configuration.

BGP under the included license

Network Essentials does not include BGP. IE-3505-8P3S-A supplies Network Advantage, while IE3500-NW-A= provides the perpetual upgrade path for the existing hardware.

Questions & Answers

What does the IE-3505-8P3S-E part number mean?

IE-3505-8P3S-E identifies an industrial Ethernet switch with the advanced modular hardware configuration, eight Gigabit PoE/PoE+ copper ports, three Gigabit SFP ports and Network Essentials. The 8P segment describes the powered copper interfaces, 3S describes the fiber interfaces, and E identifies the included software tier.

How is IE-3505-8P3S-E managed?

IE-3505-8P3S-E supports on-device WebUI and CLI management, local RJ-45 or USB-C console access, remote SSH or Telnet, Catalyst Center and Meraki dashboard. Meraki dashboard support requires Cisco IOS XE 26.1.1 or later for the base switch, with expansion-module support subject to software availability.

Is the IE3500 Rugged series end of sale?

Cisco has not announced an end-of-sale date for IE3500 Rugged. IE-3505-8P3S-E remains within the available series, rather than an announced hardware retirement schedule. Product availability and a published lifecycle milestone are separate considerations; the absence of an announced date does not establish a guaranteed future sales period.

What condition and warranty options does ORM offer for IE-3505-8P3S-E?

ORM offers IE-3505-8P3S-E new sealed or certified refurbished, with up to a 3-year extended warranty for new units and up to 1 year for refurbished units. Both conditions have 30-day returns, terms apply. Cisco’s separate platform warranty is five-year limited hardware coverage.

Which licenses are available for the IE3500 Rugged series?

IE3500 Rugged offers perpetual Network Essentials and Network Advantage, optional Cisco DNA Essentials or Advantage subscriptions starting at three years, and Meraki Enterprise LIC-IE3500-E or Advantage LIC-IE3500-A. Network Advantage and Cisco DNA licensing require a Smart Account; Cisco DNA Advantage also requires Network Advantage.

What PoE budget does IE-3505-8P3S-E provide?

IE-3505-8P3S-E provides a 240W PoE budget across its eight base copper ports, with a 480W total ceiling when a compatible powered expansion module is installed. Available endpoint power also depends on the external DC source, which must cover switch consumption and any expansion-module consumption.

Can the IE3500 Rugged switch accept an expansion module?

The IE3500 Rugged switch accepts one compatible expansion module at a time. IEM-3500-16P= adds sixteen Gigabit PoE/PoE+ copper ports, while IEM-3500-8S= adds eight Gigabit SFP ports. Expansion modules are not hot swappable, so interface selection and the installation window belong in the initial equipment plan.

What is the difference between IE-3505-8P3S-E and IE-3505-8T3S-E?

IE-3505-8P3S-E supplies PoE/PoE+ on its eight copper access ports, whereas IE-3505-8T3S-E has non-PoE copper access ports. Both configurations include three Gigabit SFP uplinks and Network Essentials. Choose the powered model for endpoints receiving switch-delivered power; the non-PoE model suits separately powered equipment.

What is the difference between IE-3505-8P3S-E and IE-3505-8P3S-A?

IE-3505-8P3S-E includes Network Essentials, while IE-3505-8P3S-A includes Network Advantage on the same port configuration. Network Advantage adds BGP, EIGRP, IS-IS and additional routing features. The E model suits requirements covered by Essentials; the A model suits deployments requiring the additional licensed routing capabilities.

What is the difference between IE-3505-8P3S-E and IE-3500-8U3X-E?

IE-3505-8P3S-E has three fixed Gigabit SFP uplinks, whereas IE-3500-8U3X-E has three fixed 10G-capable SFP+ uplinks. Both have eight copper access ports. The former suits Gigabit fiber uplink requirements; the latter addresses purchases requiring 10G uplinks, with its endpoint-power capabilities evaluated separately.
