Static routing supports inter-VLAN connectivity without a dynamic routing license. IE-3400-8P2S-E carries 4 GB DRAM and 1.5 GB user-accessible flash. The 47W switch consumption excludes PoE output, so external power sizing must account for endpoint demand separately.

Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on and POST, rated-speed links on every port, clean boot, PoE output under load on every powered port and optics bay recognition; firmware is verified and configuration wiped to factory default. A refresh of discontinued IE-2000U-16TC-G-X or IE-2000U-16TC-GP equipment can use this replacement, but the older units have 16 Fast Ethernet copper ports. Map existing endpoint connections and distinguish required copper connections from fiber links before specifying the base switch and any expansion on the PO.
When purchasing a managed spare for staging, certified refurbished units arrive with firmware verified and configuration wiped to factory default. ORM inspects and bench-tests these units for power-on, POST and clean boot. Specify the required condition and spare quantity before issuing the purchase order.
Dynamic routing in the shipped license
Network Essentials provides static routing rather than the Network Advantage routing feature set. IE-3400-8P2S-A supplies Network Advantage for buyers requiring that tier from the outset.
10G fiber uplinks to distribution
The two fixed SFP uplinks operate at Gigabit speed, not 10G. An installation requiring 10G fiber connections needs a different uplink configuration.

IE-3400 identifies Catalyst IE3400; 8P identifies eight Gigabit PoE/PoE+ ports; 2S identifies two Gigabit SFP ports; E identifies Network Essentials.
IE-3400-8P2S-E supports WebUI, Cisco Catalyst Center, SNMP, SSH/Telnet access and serial/USB console connections, with NETCONF and RESTCONF automation.
IE-3400-8P2S-E includes perpetual Network Essentials. IE3400-NW-A= adds perpetual Network Advantage. Optional Catalyst Center Essentials or Advantage terms start at three years; Catalyst Center Advantage requires Network Advantage.
Cisco has not announced an end-of-sale date for Catalyst IE3400 Rugged. Software-release retirement notices are separate from retirement of the switch hardware.
IE-3400-8P2S-E replaces IE-2000U-16TC-G-X and IE-2000U-16TC-GP, both discontinued with an end-of-sale date of July 26, 2024. Their 16-port copper configurations require a port-density check when migrating to the eight-port base unit.

IE-3400-8P2S-E powers PoE endpoints; IE-3400-8T2S-E has non-PoE copper ports. The P model suits powered endpoints; the T model suits separately powered equipment.
