IE-3400H-8T-E provides 4 GB of DRAM and 1.5 GB of user-accessible flash, with a 16000-entry unicast MAC table. When replacing a discontinued IE-2000-8T67-B, specify IE-3400H-8T-E rather than repeating the legacy part number on the purchase order. Cisco support for the predecessor ended March 31, 2026. When commissioning switches before shipment to an industrial site, the serial console requires CAB-CONSOLE-M12= rather than a standard RJ-45 console lead. The console runs at 9600 baud. Include the commissioning cable and confirm the terminal connection before releasing the purchase order.

IE-3400H-8T-E identifies a Catalyst IE3400 Heavy Duty switch with eight Gigabit Ethernet M12 interfaces and Network Essentials. IE-3400H identifies the industrial Heavy Duty family, 8 denotes the interface count, T corresponds to the Gigabit copper configuration, and E identifies the supplied Network Essentials tier.
IE-3400H-8T-E supports WebUI, console CLI, SSH, Telnet, SNMP, Cisco Catalyst Center and Industrial Network Director management. NETCONF, RESTCONF and YANG provide programmable configuration, while CIP management objects support industrial administration. A local serial connection uses CAB-CONSOLE-M12=; centralized management licensing is separate from the supplied network license.
Cisco has not announced an end-of-sale date for Catalyst IE3400 Heavy Duty. IE-3400H-8T-E therefore has no announced hardware replacement or hardware last-support milestone. Individual Cisco IOS XE releases and removable storage accessories have separate lifecycle announcements; those announcements do not establish an end-of-sale date for the switch hardware.

IE-3400H-8T-E replaces the discontinued IE-2000-8T67-B, whose end-of-sale date was March 5, 2021. Cisco support for that predecessor ended March 31, 2026. The replacement changes the Ethernet configuration from Fast Ethernet to Gigabit Ethernet, so migration orders should include a review of existing connector and cable compatibility.
The eight-port Gigabit M12 switch uses eight-pin X-coded M12 Ethernet connectors. Gigabit connections require four-pair Category 5 or higher cabling, with M12-to-RJ-45 leads available for conventional Ethernet equipment. Cable runs must remain within 100 meters, and connector sealing must be maintained for the environmental rating.
IE-3400H-8T-E needs an external DC power source connected through its single mini-change input, with an absolute input range of 9.6-60VDC. PWR-IE160W-67-DC= is an optional IP67-rated DC-DC supply sold separately. The supply and compatible power cabling should be specified separately rather than assumed to accompany the base switch.
Catalyst IE3400 Heavy Duty supports wall or panel mounting using its mounting bracket. Installation requires 50.8 mm clearance above, below, at the exposed side and in front. IE-3400H-8T-E has eight Gigabit Ethernet X-coded M12 interfaces, while IE-3400H-8FT-E has eight Fast Ethernet D-coded M12 interfaces. Both carry Network Essentials, but the connector coding also changes with the speed configuration.
