ESS-3300-CON-A is a conduction-cooled embedded Layer 3 switch mainboard, not an enclosed desktop or rack switch. Eight Gigabit Ethernet interfaces and two fixed 1G/10G uplink interfaces provide connectivity; four Gigabit interfaces support shared copper or fiber operation. Network Advantage is included for routed industrial designs. The Cisco Embedded Services 3300 family supports integrators building customized networking assemblies for transportation, defense, mining, and oil-and-gas equipment. External network connectors, housing, and power delivery belong to the integrator’s host assembly. The cooling plate provides the thermal interface to that assembly rather than establishing a finished enclosure’s ambient temperature rating. ESS-3300-CON-E retains the cooling plate but carries Network Essentials instead.

Line-rate forwarding applies to every port and packet size, including short Ethernet frames. OSPFv2, OSPFv3, IS-IS, EIGRP, RIP v1, RIP v2, and PBR provide routing under the included license, while PIM-SM and PIM-DM support multicast routing. MACsec-256 is supported on the Gigabit downlinks; neither uplink interface supports MACsec, even when operating at 1G. ESS-3300-CON-A carries 4 GB DRAM and 4 GB onboard flash for the software environment and stored configuration. Sixteen VRF-lite instances separate routing contexts, while 256 VLAN IDs define the VLAN scale. REP supports Ethernet path resilience; MSTP and RSTP provide spanning-tree operation, and LACP supports link aggregation. The ESS3300 software environment also supports network configuration through NETCONF and RESTCONF. 17W maximum mainboard power draw provides the board-level allocation for host power planning, separate from external interface hardware and endpoint-power circuitry.
ESS-3300-CON-A is offered new sealed or certified refurbished, with refurbished units inspected and bench-tested for power-on and POST, clean boot, rated-speed links on every Ethernet interface, firmware verification, and configuration wiping to factory default. Specify condition and quantity on the PO; ORM coverage is up to a 3-year extended warranty on new units and up to 1 year on certified refurbished units, with 30-day returns on every condition, terms apply. Arrange enterprise and volume orders with PO acceptance, Net-30 for government, and RMA with advance replacement; regional stock and RMA coverage spans the UK, EU, US, and MEA.

Replaces | ESS-2020-CON / ESS-2020-CON-B; end-of-sale July 19, 2022 |
Existing assemblies built around ESS-2020-CON or ESS-2020-CON-B require a migration purchase rather than an assumption of board-level interchangeability. Both discontinued models reached end of sale July 19, 2022. Before the PO, validate the replacement board’s host interconnect, thermal interface, and software configuration in the intended assembly.
Powered-camera or access-point assemblies require more than the Ethernet mainboard. Cisco IOS XE recognizes the integrator’s PoE circuitry through the PD69208M controller, so software support does not supply endpoint power by itself. Specify the host controller, endpoint power allocation, and external supply arrangement as separate integration requirements before the purchase order.
Routed industrial builds that combine filtering with traffic classification share a 3000-rule allocation across ACL and QoS functions. A feature checklist alone therefore does not establish the required scale. Prepare the intended rules and traffic classes, then verify their combined resource demand before specifying production quantities on the purchase order.
Ready-to-install enclosed switching
The mainboard requires an integrator-designed host assembly, external network interfaces, and DC power delivery; ESS-3300-CON-A is not a finished enclosed switch.
MACsec on the uplink interfaces
The two 1G/10G uplink interfaces do not support MACsec at either speed; MACsec encryption is restricted to the Gigabit downlink interfaces.
More than eight Gigabit access interfaces
ESS-3300-CON-A provides eight Gigabit access interfaces; ESS-3300-24T-CON-A bundles an expansion board for 24 Gigabit access interfaces, requiring additional board space and host integration.

ESS-3300-CON-A identifies an Embedded Services 3300 mainboard with a cooling plate and Network Advantage software. ESS-3300 denotes the mainboard family, CON distinguishes the cooling-plate configuration, and A selects Network Advantage. The part number contains no separate access-port count or uplink-speed segment.
ESS-3300-CON-A supports web UI, CLI over SSH or Telnet, RS-232 and USB consoles, SNMP, NETCONF, and RESTCONF; the family also supports Cisco Prime and IND integration. The host assembly must expose the Ethernet and console connections used for local administration, while remote access requires network configuration.
Cisco has not announced an end-of-sale date for Embedded Services 3300. Individual Cisco IOS XE releases have separate lifecycle milestones. End-of-sale dates for earlier Embedded Service 2020 hardware do not establish an end-of-sale date or support deadline for this embedded switch mainboard.
New sealed and certified refurbished ESS-3300-CON-A units are offered with ORM coverage: new units have up to a 3-year extended warranty; refurbished units have up to 1 year. Returns are 30 days for either condition, terms apply. Cisco’s separate warranty is a 1-year Limited Hardware Warranty.
ESS-3300-CON-A includes permanent Network Advantage; Network Essentials is the family’s other permanent tier. DNA Essentials and DNA Advantage add-ons use three-, five-, or seven-year terms, with three years the minimum. Continuing DNA features requires renewal; base capabilities remain after deactivating the expired add-on and reloading.
ESS-3300-CON-A replaces ESS-2020-CON and ESS-2020-CON-B, which reached end of sale July 19, 2022. Those discontinued models have a last date of support of July 31, 2027. Migration requires validating the new mainboard against the intended host assembly rather than assuming mechanical or electrical interchangeability.
ESS-3300-CON-A includes Network Advantage, while ESS-3300-CON-E includes Network Essentials; both include a cooling plate. Network Advantage enables the routed feature set, including OSPF and EIGRP. Choose the A model for those routing requirements and the E model for deployments using Network Essentials capabilities.
ESS-3300-CON-A includes a cooling plate, while ESS-3300-NCP-A omits that plate. Both are Network Advantage mainboards. The conduction-cooled model suits a host designed around Cisco’s plate; the NCP variant is for an integrator supplying a custom thermal solution for the completed host assembly.
ESS-3300-24T-CON-A bundles the mainboard and expansion board for 24 Gigabit interfaces, while ESS-3300-CON-A supplies the mainboard’s eight. Both carry Network Advantage and cooling plates. Specify the mainboard-only model for the smaller interface requirement and the bundle when the host design requires the expansion board.
ESS-3300-CON-A provides eight Gigabit interfaces and two 1G/10G uplink interfaces, with four Gigabit interfaces supporting shared copper or fiber operation. Combo media do not create extra independent ports. These are embedded board interfaces; the host assembly supplies the external network connector presentation.
No, the Embedded Services 3300 mainboard requires integrator-supplied PoE controllers and host power circuitry to deliver endpoint power. Cisco IOS XE supplies visibility and control rather than a built-in endpoint power budget. Specify the finished host’s PoE hardware and power allocation separately from the mainboard.
ESS-3300-CON-A requires both 3.3V DC and 5V DC rails from the host assembly; an AC power cord does not power the board directly. Mainboard consumption is 16W typical and 17W maximum. Size host power delivery separately from expansion boards, external optical interfaces, and PoE circuitry.
The conduction-cooled Embedded Services 3300 mainboard supports -40°C to 85°C measured at the center of the heat spreader plate, not a guaranteed enclosure ambient rating. The completed assembly’s operating range depends on the integrator’s thermal design. Validate the plate interface and host heat-removal path before ordering.
ESS-3300-CON-A supports SFP-10G-SR-X and SFP-10G-LR-X for compatible host optical interfaces. The uplink interfaces accept 10G SFP+ or 1G SFP operation, but not 100 Mbps SFP transceivers. Match SFP-10G-SR-X or SFP-10G-LR-X to the host design, fiber type, and operating temperature rather than selecting only by connector fit.
