ESS-9300-10X-E is a ruggedized embedded Layer 2 switch board for custom industrial products, not a finished rack-mount appliance. Ten 1G/10G Ethernet interfaces support the integrator's optical implementation; the bare card should not be ordered as an enclosed switch with installed front-panel cages. Network Essentials is included, and the Cisco Catalyst ESS9300 Embedded Switch runs Cisco IOS XE. The design addresses tactical, outdoor and mobile installations where the buyer is specifying a networking component within a larger product. Qualified integration into a finished system is required before deployment. ESS-9300-8X16T-W-A includes Network Advantage instead, but is available only within the Curtiss-Wright VPX3-623 assembly, not as a separately ordered Cisco board.

Line-rate forwarding covers all ports and packet sizes. 43W maximum board consumption establishes the board's electrical provisioning requirement, while 35W is the typical consumption figure. ESS-9300-10X-E provides 4 GB DRAM and 8 GB onboard flash, with 2.5 GB accessible for user storage. A 16000-entry MAC table supports address learning for the embedded network. RSTP, MSTP and LACP provide loop control and link aggregation within the included software tier. Secure boot and zeroization support software authenticity and credential protection, while two alarm inputs and one relay output support enclosure monitoring. When a custom product moves from design to procurement, the carrier must mate with SEAF-20-05.0-S-06-2-A-K and SEAF-40-05.0-S-06-2-A-K. These connectors expose power and interface signals rather than finished front-panel connections. Specify mating geometry, signal routing and connector implementation before releasing the carrier and switch-board purchase orders.
When one embedded design will be installed in multiple enclosure types, validate the thermal solution for each finished configuration. The customer-designed conduction plate must remain at or below 85°C at its specified measurement point. Network Essentials supplies Layer 2 switching rather than OSPF or BGP routing. Specify ESS9300-NW-A= when the embedded design requires Network Advantage routing functions.
LRM optical transceiver support
LRM optics are unsupported because the optical interfaces are directly driven from the forwarding silicon. A deployment requiring LRM transceivers cannot use that optic type with this board.
