SF100-16 is a compact unmanaged Layer 2 switch with 16 RJ-45 access ports operating at 10/100 Mbps for small-business office equipment. The desktop chassis supplies no PoE, so phones, access points and other powered endpoints retain separate power arrangements. No dedicated faster uplink or fiber slot is built in; an upstream connection uses an ordinary copper port. The discontinued SF100D-16P differs by supplying PoE on eight ports. Cisco 100 Series Unmanaged Switches provide basic connectivity for computers, printers and other office devices without configuration. This model addresses physical Ethernet connectivity rather than administrator-defined switching policies, so endpoint speeds and power requirements remain important selection checks.

3.2 Gbps switching capacity establishes the aggregate switching ceiling for the copper connections. 1.4 Mpps forwarding at 64-byte packet size provides the separate packet-rate limit for comparing workloads containing many small frames. Traffic enters four hardware queues; 802.1p markings determine priority, with priority queuing and weighted round-robin scheduling controlling service. Store-and-forward processing checks received frames and prevents damaged packets from being passed onward. SF100-16 accepts 100-240V AC at 50-60 Hz through its internal supply, so installation does not require an external DC adapter. The chassis operates from 0°C to 40°C and weighs 1.25 kg, establishing the environmental and mounting-load checks for placement. Cisco Small Business Ethernet ports negotiate speed and duplex and detect cable crossover automatically. When voice or video priority matters, disable flow control on connected equipment that permits that setting; pause frames can otherwise block high-priority packets.
Choose new sealed or certified refurbished SF100-16 stock and specify the hardware condition, quantity and required mounting hardware on the purchase order. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on and POST, every copper port linking at rated speed and a clean boot. ORM Systems provides up to a 3-year extended warranty on new units, up to 1 year on certified refurbished units, and 30-day returns for every condition; terms apply, and Cisco service ended December 31, 2020. For enterprise and volume orders, POs are accepted, Net-30 is available for government, and RMA handling includes advance replacement.

When a branch rollout places network equipment beside other devices, SF100-16 needs at least 50 mm of surrounding airflow clearance and unobstructed side panels. Crowded shelves and cabinets must leave room for that ventilation envelope. Confirm the mounting position and clearance before issuing the purchase order.
When a staging bench uses cascaded unmanaged switches, moving the connection between switches to a different port can require 5 minutes before full network operation resumes. For an SF100-16 staging order, plan the final cable layout before testing and include that settling interval in the acceptance checklist.
When several small offices are standardizing on SF100-16, the cable bill of materials requires Category 5 or better UTP connections for attached equipment. Separate endpoint connections from inter-switch connections in each site's purchasing schedule, then specify cable quantities and required lengths before releasing the order.
Native Gigabit Ethernet connections
SF100-16 copper ports stop at 100 Mbps. CBS110-16T-NA provides 16 Gigabit Ethernet ports and is the current successor for buyers specifying native 1G connections.
PoE-powered phones and access points
SF100-16 supplies no PoE to connected devices. CBS110-16PP-NA is a 16-port Gigabit alternative with partial PoE, so powered-port coverage must match the endpoint list.
Direct fiber connections to distribution
SF100-16 provides copper Ethernet ports only and has no SFP slot or removable uplink card. Fiber transceivers cannot be installed directly into this chassis for an upstream connection.

SF100-16 identifies the 16-port 10/100 Ethernet member of Cisco's 100 Series Unmanaged Switches. SF100 identifies the Fast Ethernet switch model, and 16 denotes its port count. The complete part number names a non-PoE model with copper Ethernet connections; no additional suffix appears in SF100-16.
SF100-16 operates without configuration: connect power and Ethernet cables to start switching. Speed and duplex are negotiated automatically, and cable crossover detection adjusts the port connection. Traffic prioritization also runs automatically, so initial deployment consists of physical installation and checking the connected equipment.
SF100-16 is discontinued and no longer supported by Cisco: end of sale was December 9, 2015, and support ended December 31, 2020. Orders therefore concern remaining hardware stock, not a current Cisco product. CBS110-16T-NA is the current 16-port Gigabit successor in the migration chain.
ORM Systems offers SF100-16 new sealed with up to a 3-year extended warranty, or certified refurbished with up to 1 year. Returns are available for 30 days on either condition; terms apply. Cisco's original limited lifetime hardware warranty ended with Cisco support on December 31, 2020.
No, SF100-16 does not supply PoE through its Ethernet ports. Connected phones, access points and similar devices need their own power arrangement when used with this model. The switch carries data connections only; a purchase order for powered endpoints must account for endpoint power separately.
SF100-16 connects upstream through an ordinary 10/100 RJ-45 port, not a dedicated faster uplink. There is no SFP cage or removable uplink module. Include the upstream connection when assigning physical ports, and keep the required connection speed within the switch's Fast Ethernet limit.
SF100-16 can be installed in a rack with its rackmount kit, although the chassis is 279.4 mm wide rather than a full-width rack enclosure. Flat-surface and wall installation are also supported. Confirm that mounting hardware accompanies the order and reserve 1U when using the brackets.
Cisco 100 Series Unmanaged Switches prioritize traffic automatically using four hardware queues, 802.1p markings and priority queuing or weighted round-robin scheduling. These mechanisms operate without configuration. Disable flow control on connected equipment that permits this setting when relying on voice or video priority, because pause frames can block queued high-priority packets.
SF100-16, the 16-port 10/100 switch, requires AC power through its internal supply, accepting 100-240V AC at 50-60 Hz. The original package includes a power cord. Match the cord to the installation region and specify cord inclusion when ordering a spare or refurbished unit.
SF100D-16P powers eight PoE ports from a shared 64W budget, while SF100-16 supplies no PoE. Both models have 16 Fast Ethernet ports. SF100D-16P is discontinued and matches legacy powered-endpoint requirements; SF100-16 matches existing installations where connected devices already have separate power arrangements.
SF100-16 uses an internal AC supply, whereas SF100D-16 uses an external 12V DC adapter. Both offer 16 10/100 Ethernet ports. SF100D-16 is discontinued; the comparison matters for legacy replacements requiring an external adapter rather than an AC cord plugged directly into the switch.
CBS110-16T-NA provides 16 Gigabit Ethernet ports, while SF100-16 has 16 Fast Ethernet ports limited to 100 Mbps. CBS110-16T-NA is the current successor in the migration chain. The newer model fits orders needing native Gigabit links; SF100-16 fits part-matched legacy sparing rather than a speed upgrade.
