Powered Office Connectivity Across Copper And Fiber

SF250-48HP-K9 combines 48 Fast Ethernet PoE+ access ports with four fixed Gigabit uplinks in a 1U rack-mount smart switch for small-business networks. The access links run at 10/100 Mbps, making this a legacy endpoint connection rather than a Gigabit desktop upgrade. Two dedicated SFP uplinks sit alongside two copper/SFP combo connections; each combo connection uses one medium at a time. Within Cisco 250 Series Smart Switches, this Layer 2+ model serves offices connecting powered IP phones, wireless access points, and other Ethernet devices. The discontinued SF250-48-K9-NA omits endpoint power for installations that do not need PoE. Copper and fiber uplinks accommodate different connection media without a removable network card.

Technical Details

17.6 Gbps switching capacity and 13.1 Mpps forwarding at 64-byte packets support wire-speed, nonblocking switching across the fixed ports. 195W of shared PoE power sets the combined endpoint allocation rather than guaranteeing maximum power everywhere. 32 static IPv4 routes support local network forwarding without a dynamic routing protocol suite. SF250-48HP-K9 uses 512 MB DRAM and 256 MB flash for embedded software operation and image storage. The SF250-48HP model maintains an 8000-entry MAC table for address learning. A 24 Mb packet buffer is dynamically shared among all ports, while eight hardware queues support traffic prioritization. STP/RSTP/MSTP protect bridged topologies, and LACP combines links under configured aggregation policy. Full and menu-based Textview CLI access complements HTTPS browser management and SNMP monitoring. Worst-case consumption reaches 265.2W at 110V with PoE delivery, providing the maximum draw for electrical planning. Fixed Gigabit uplinks do not provide a 10G upgrade path.

Ordering

Order SF250-48HP-K9 from ORM Systems in new sealed or certified refurbished condition, and state the required condition and quantity on the purchase order. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested, with firmware verified, configuration wiped to factory default, and PoE output verified under load on every powered port. ORM warranty coverage is up to a 3-year extended warranty for new units and up to 1 year for certified refurbished units; returns cover 30 days on every condition, with terms applying. For enterprise and volume orders, ORM Systems accepts POs, offers Net-30 for government, and provides RMA with advance replacement, with regional stock and RMA handling across the UK, EU, US, and MEA.

Buying Notes

Buying NotesKey Specs

Software maintenance has ended

SF250-48HP-K9 no longer receives routine software maintenance, which ended July 30, 2023. Its North American migration target, CBS250-48PP-4G-NA, is also discontinued and has no current successor in that replacement chain.

Order optics with hardware

Fiber connections on SF250-48HP-K9 require compatible 1G optics. Specify MGBSX1 for multimode fiber or MGBLX1 for single-mode fiber, and include the required transceivers with the hardware order.

Size endpoint power demand

SF250-48HP-K9 needs 48 × 30W = 1440W to power every access port at its per-port maximum, exceeding its shared allocation. Size the purchase against actual endpoint wattages, not port count alone.

Best For

Routed Office Segments

When an office needs traffic forwarded between local IP networks, the 16-IP-interface ceiling becomes a purchase-sizing constraint. Map each required interface and retain an upstream path for traffic outside those segments; specify the intended interface count and gateway arrangement before the purchase order.

Repeatable Branch Provisioning

When several branches need a repeatable configuration workflow, the embedded Network Plug and Play agent supports Cisco PnP Connect. Treat enrollment and configuration delivery as rollout prerequisites rather than assuming an unmanaged installation; specify the provisioning workflow and identify the configuration owner before ordering each site's hardware.

Spare Image Staging

When a replacement must be prepared before a maintenance window, dual software images and the front-panel USB Type-A slot provide file and image handling options. Define the intended software image and configuration baseline during staging, then specify the required preparation and acceptance checks with the spare order.

Not Suitable If

Gigabit speed on access ports

The 48 access ports operate at 10/100 Mbps, so endpoint connections cannot negotiate 1GbE. The Gigabit interfaces are uplinks rather than higher-speed access ports.

10G uplinks without chassis replacement

The built-in uplinks support 1GbE, not 10GbE, and the chassis has no removable uplink card option. Uplink speed cannot be increased by changing optics.

Fanless operation near occupied desks

The chassis uses two cooling fans rather than passive cooling. Acoustic output reaches 52.7 dB at 50°C, so the switch is not fanless.

Questions & Answers

What does the SF250-48HP-K9 part number identify?

SF250-48HP-K9 identifies a 250 Series Fast Ethernet switch; 48 indicates 48 access ports and HP identifies the 195W PoE+ configuration. Regional forms include SF250-48HP-K9-NA for North America, SF250-48HP-K9-EU for designated European markets, and SF250-48HP-K9-UK for the United Kingdom and designated markets. The regional ending selects the ordering region.

How are Cisco 250 Series Smart Switches managed?

Cisco 250 Series Smart Switches support an HTTP/HTTPS web interface, Textview CLI with SSH or Telnet access, SNMP, Smart Network Application, FindIT Network Manager with an embedded FindIT Network Probe, and Cisco Active Advisor. FindIT Network Discovery Utility assists discovery; the CLI offers full and menu-based modes, while SNMP supports versions 1, 2c, and 3.

How much PoE power does SF250-48HP-K9 provide?

SF250-48HP-K9 provides a shared 195W PoE budget across 48 powered access ports, with a maximum of 30W on an individual port. The total allocation prevents every port from drawing its individual maximum simultaneously. Size the connected endpoint load against the shared budget rather than the number of available ports.

How many uplinks does the SF250-48HP model have?

The SF250-48HP model has four Gigabit uplinks: two dedicated SFP ports and two copper/SFP combo ports. Each combo port activates either its copper connection or its SFP connection, not both simultaneously. Compatible fiber options include MGBSX1 for multimode links and MGBLX1 for single-mode links; specify the required optics separately.

Can SF250-48HP-K9 route between local IP networks?

SF250-48HP-K9 supports IPv4 static routing with 32 static routes and 16 IP interfaces. The Layer 2+ feature set can forward traffic between local IP networks without providing a dynamic routing protocol suite. Check both route count and interface count when sizing an inter-VLAN configuration before ordering.

Does SF250-48HP-K9 support redundant power supplies?

SF250-48HP-K9 uses a single internal universal AC supply and does not provide a second internal supply option. Input power is 100-240V AC at 50-60 Hz, and a power cord is included. Worst-case consumption reaches 265.2W at 110V with PoE delivery, which should be included in electrical sizing.

Is the SF250-48HP suitable for rack mounting?

The SF250-48HP fits a 19-inch rack in 1U and includes a mounting kit. Its chassis measures 440 mm wide, 44 mm high, and 350 mm deep, with a weight of 4.93 kg. Check rack depth and cable clearance when specifying the installation space.

Is SF250-48HP-K9 discontinued?

SF250-48HP-K9 reached end of sale on July 30, 2022, and its last date of support is July 31, 2027. Software maintenance ended July 30, 2023. Its North American replacement, CBS250-48PP-4G-NA, is also discontinued, with no current successor available through that replacement chain.

Which older switch does SF250-48HP-K9 replace?

SF250-48HP-K9 replaces the discontinued SF200-48P ordering forms SLM248PT-NA and SLM248PT-G5. SLM248PT-NA maps to SF250-48HP-K9-NA, while SLM248PT-G5 maps to SF250-48HP-K9-EU or SF250-48HP-K9-UK. These are legacy replacement paths rather than a current-product recommendation, because the SF250 model has also reached end of sale.

What is the difference between SF250-48HP-K9 and SF250-48-K9-NA?

SF250-48HP-K9 supplies PoE+ on its access ports, whereas SF250-48-K9-NA supplies no endpoint power. Both models are discontinued. The powered model suits a legacy spare requirement involving phones or access points; the non-PoE model suits a like-for-like replacement where endpoints use separate power.

What is the difference between SF250-48HP-K9 and SF250-24P-K9-NA?

SF250-48HP-K9 has 48 access ports, while SF250-24P-K9-NA has 24. Both are discontinued PoE+ models, so this comparison concerns legacy replacement planning. The larger model matches an established 48-port installation; the smaller model matches a 24-port requirement where retaining that access-port count is the purchase constraint.

What is the difference between SF250-48HP-K9 and SG250X-48P-K9-NA?

SF250-48HP-K9 has four 1G uplinks, while SG250X-48P-K9-NA has four 10G uplinks split between two 10GBASE-T ports and two SFP+ ports. Both models are discontinued. The SF250 model matches legacy Gigabit-uplink connections; the SG250X variant matches installed 10G uplink requirements when specifying like-for-like spares.

What condition and warranty options does ORM Systems offer for SF250-48HP-K9?

ORM Systems offers SF250-48HP-K9 new sealed or certified refurbished, with up to a 3-year extended warranty for new units and up to 1 year for refurbished units. Returns are available for 30 days on every condition; terms apply. Cisco's Limited Lifetime hardware warranty is bounded by the July 31, 2027 last date of support.
