Fiber Connectivity for Managed Small Business Networks

SG350-28SFP-K9-EU is a fiber-focused managed Layer 2+ switch with 24 dedicated Gigabit SFP access slots and four fixed Gigabit uplink interfaces: two dedicated SFP slots and two copper/SFP combo ports. Each combo interface activates either its copper connection or its SFP cage, not both simultaneously, keeping the configuration at 28 logical network ports. The non-PoE, 1U rack-mount chassis belongs to the Cisco 350 Series Managed Switches and serves small-business networks connecting fiber-fed network segments rather than directly powering endpoints. The discontinued SG350-28P-K9-EU instead provides PoE+ copper access, so these models are not interchangeable endpoint-port configurations. Fiber connections can link switches across floors or between business network segments while preserving separate VLANs for different traffic requirements.

Technical Details

56 Gbps switching capacity supports nonblocking traffic handling across the available interfaces. 41.66 Mpps forwarding performance applies to 64-byte packets, providing a separate packet-processing limit for small-frame traffic. Static IPv4 routing supports 990 routes and 128 IP interfaces for communication between locally defined networks; PBR directs selected traffic toward specified next hops. SG350-28SFP-K9-EU uses 512 MB of memory and 256 MB of flash for switch operation and software storage. A 1.5 MB packet buffer is dynamically shared across ports rather than reserved equally for each connection. STP/RSTP/MSTP and LACP provide loop-control and link-aggregation options, while private VLANs separate traffic between attached network segments. The SG350-28SFP supports browser-based configuration and a scriptable CLI, with SNMP available for monitoring integration. Dual software images provide an alternate image during firmware maintenance. Dynamic routing is not included, and the fixed optical interfaces do not provide 10G connectivity.

Ordering

Order SG350-28SFP-K9-EU new sealed or certified refurbished, with ORM warranties of up to 3-year extended coverage on new units and up to 1 year on certified refurbished units. Refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for rated-speed links on every port and optics bay recognition; firmware is verified and configurations are wiped to factory default. Cisco's original limited lifetime hardware warranty is bounded by July 31, 2027; ORM provides 30-day returns on every condition, terms apply. Specify condition and optics on your PO; POs are accepted, with Net-30 for government and RMA with advance replacement for enterprise and volume orders.

Best For

Fiber Branch Rollout

When a branch rollout must connect existing fiber runs, select transceivers against the actual media and distance rather than the connector alone. MGBSX1 supports multimode links to 500 m, while MGBLH1 supports single-mode links to 40 km. Specify matching optics and the required link quantities before issuing the PO.

Multi-Site Configuration Standardization

When several locations need a common configuration baseline, text-editable configuration files and autoconfiguration through SCP allow a prepared configuration to be distributed between switches. Keep site-specific addressing and authentication details separate from the shared template, and specify the staging configuration and secure file-transfer requirements before the PO.

Lab Traffic Analysis

When a staging lab needs packet captures before equipment enters service, port mirroring supports eight source ports feeding one destination port within a single session. That session limit determines which interfaces can be observed together. Specify the analyzer connection and required capture sources before ordering the lab configuration.

Not Suitable If

10G optical uplinks

All built-in optical interfaces operate at Gigabit Ethernet speed; the chassis does not provide SFP+ uplinks or a removable uplink card bay for higher-speed connections.

PoE power for attached endpoints

The copper combo connections carry network traffic without supplying PoE. Phones, cameras and access points requiring power through Ethernet cannot receive that power from this model.

SG350-28SFP-K9-EU is discontinued: end of sale was July 30, 2022, and the last date of support is July 31, 2027. Software maintenance ended July 30, 2023. Its named replacement, CBS350-24S-4G-EU, is also discontinued, and the replacement chain has no current migration product.

What condition and warranty options does ORM offer for SG350-28SFP-K9-EU?

ORM offers SG350-28SFP-K9-EU new sealed or certified refurbished, with separate ORM and Cisco warranty terms. ORM provides up to 3-year extended coverage on new units, up to 1 year on certified refurbished units, and 30-day returns on every condition; terms apply. Cisco's original limited lifetime hardware warranty is bounded by July 31, 2027.

Which older switch does SG350-28SFP-K9-EU replace?

SG350-28SFP-K9-EU replaces the discontinued SG300-28SFP-K9-EU, maintaining a fiber-oriented Gigabit managed-switch role. The change does not turn a fiber installation into a copper-access configuration. For an existing installation, confirm transceiver requirements, shared copper connections and configuration migration needs before specifying the replacement unit on a purchase order.

How many fiber and copper ports does SG350-28SFP-K9-EU have?

SG350-28SFP-K9-EU has 26 dedicated Gigabit SFP slots and two Gigabit copper/SFP combo interfaces, providing 28 logical network ports. The dedicated optical connections comprise 24 access slots and two additional SFP uplinks. Each combo interface uses either copper or SFP, so its two connectors cannot operate simultaneously.

Which optics can the Cisco 350 fiber switch use?

The Cisco 350 fiber switch supports MGBSX1 for multimode links to 500 m, MGBLX1 for single-mode links to 10 km, and MGBLH1 for single-mode links to 40 km. These transceivers operate at 1G. Select each connection against its fiber type, link distance and corresponding peer optics.

Can SG350-28SFP-K9-EU route traffic between VLANs?

Yes, SG350-28SFP-K9-EU supports static IPv4 routing between configured networks, with 990 static routes and 128 IP interfaces. PBR can select next hops using traffic-matching rules. Routing interfaces can be associated with physical ports, link aggregation groups, VLANs or loopbacks; dynamic routing is not included in this model.

What power and cooling does the SG350-28SFP require?

The SG350-28SFP uses an internal 100-240V AC supply and one cooling fan, with maximum power consumption of 34.3W. The operating temperature range is 0°C to 50°C. The fixed supply does not provide an internal redundant PSU option, so power continuity must be addressed outside the chassis.

What is the difference between SG350-28SFP-K9-EU and SG350-28P-K9-EU?

SG350-28P-K9-EU provides 24 PoE+ copper access ports with a shared 195W budget, whereas SG350-28SFP-K9-EU provides 24 SFP access slots without PoE output. Both models are discontinued. The former addresses existing powered-copper endpoint installations; the latter suits buyers retaining fiber access connections rather than Ethernet-powered devices.

What is the difference between SG350-28SFP-K9-EU and SG350-10SFP-K9-EU?

SG350-28SFP-K9-EU uses an internal AC supply, while SG350-10SFP-K9-EU uses an external AC supply and has eight dedicated SFP access slots rather than 24. Both models are discontinued. The larger chassis suits existing higher-density fiber installations; the smaller model addresses legacy installations with fewer fiber connections and external power.

What is the difference between SG350-28SFP-K9-EU and SG350-52-K9-EU?

SG350-52-K9-EU provides 48 copper access ports, while SG350-28SFP-K9-EU provides 24 SFP access slots. Both models are discontinued, and the access media differ as well as the port count. The copper model addresses existing high-density Ethernet endpoint installations; the SFP model addresses buyers preserving fiber-connected access networks.
