Catalyst 9300 and C9300L switches do not take it. A Catalyst 9300X network module fits C9300X-12Y, C9300X-24Y, C9300X-24HX, C9300X-48HX, C9300X-48HXN and C9300X-48TX in the front uplink network module slot. The dual-rate QSFP28 network module takes Cisco 100G QSFP28 or 40G QSFP+ transceivers for uplinks to a matching far end.

100 Gbps per port is the highest rated speed, and 40 Gbps operation uses the same QSFP cage with a matching 40G far end. C9300X-48HXN uses ports 1 and 2; Cisco IOS XE 17.8.1 or later allows breakout on port 1 only, and earlier 17.7.1 trains allow no breakout. C9300X-NM-2C presents HundredGigE1/1/1 and HundredGigE1/1/2 to the switch. Online insertion and removal is allowed after cables and transceivers are removed. Cisco IOS XE 17.5.1 is the first supported release for the module; C9300X-24HX and C9300X-48HXN follow their later host introductory releases. A blank module keeps the slot closed when no uplink ports are used.

The buyer has a Catalyst 9300X access stack and needs two high-speed uplinks per uplinking member. C9300X-NM-2C gives two 100G/40G QSFP ports, so the order count follows the number of stack members that need external uplinks. Count one module and one Cisco transceiver per used port.
The buyer is using C9300X-48HXN and wants breakout behavior kept consistent during staging. Ports 1 and 2 are usable, but breakout changes at Cisco IOS XE 17.8.1 and applies only to port 1 after that release. Match the software release, port plan and cable count before the PO.
The buyer has a 40G QSFP+ far end now and a 100G QSFP28 far end later on Catalyst 9300X. The same module slot accepts the dual-rate network module, so the buyer counts the installed module, selected QSFP optics and matching far-end speed for each uplink.

C9300X-NM-2C is the Cisco Catalyst 9300X 2 x 100G/40G dual rate QSFP Network Module. It adds two QSFP28 uplink ports to Catalyst 9300X modular uplink switches. C9300X marks the host generation, NM is network module, and 2C marks the two 100G/40G QSFP cages.
C9300X-NM-2C fits Catalyst 9300X modular uplink models: C9300X-12Y, C9300X-24Y, C9300X-24HX, C9300X-48HX, C9300X-48HXN and C9300X-48TX. It does not fit Catalyst 9300, C9300L or C9300LM fixed-uplink models. Catalyst 9300 modular switches take C9300-NM-2Q for two 40GE QSFP uplinks.
A Catalyst 9300X uses C9300X-NM network modules in its front uplink module slot. Choices are C9300X-NM-2C for two 100G/40G QSFP ports, C9300X-NM-4C for four 100G/40G QSFP ports on its limited hosts, C9300X-NM-8Y for eight 25G/10G/1G SFP28 ports and C9300X-NM-8M for eight 10G/mGig copper ports.
C9300X-NM-2C has two Ethernet uplink ports rated for 100 Gbps or 40 Gbps per port. A 100G far end must match a 100G QSFP28 optic or cable, and a 40G far end must match a 40G QSFP+ optic or cable. It presents HundredGigE1/1/1 and HundredGigE1/1/2.
C9300X-NM-2C takes Cisco QSFP28 optics such as QSFP-100G-SR4-S for 100 m MMF, QSFP-100G-PSM4-S for 500 m SMF, QSFP-100G-CWDM4-S for 2 km SMF and QSFP-100G-LR4-S for 10 km SMF. The module ships without optics, so order one transceiver or cable per port used.
C9300X-NM-2C fits the front uplink network module slot on a Catalyst 9300X switch. A stack uses one module in each member that needs those uplinks. All network modules are hot-swappable. If no uplink ports are required, C9300X-NM-BLANK fills the slot for airflow, EMC and thermal compliance.
C9300X-NM-2C gives Catalyst 9300X 100G per port, the step above the 25G C9300X-NM-8Y. It also runs at 40G per port for QSFP+ uplink handoffs. C9300X-48HXN uses both ports and has separate breakout limits by Cisco IOS XE release.
C9300X-NM-2C first runs in Cisco IOS XE 17.5.1 on Catalyst 9300X. C9300X-24HX starts with Cisco IOS XE 17.9.1, and C9300X-48HXN starts with Cisco IOS XE 17.9.3. Use the higher host floor when the switch model came after the module.
C9300X-NM-2C on C9300X-48HXN uses ports 1 and 2 in Cisco IOS XE 17.7.1 and earlier with no breakout cable operation. Cisco IOS XE 17.8.1 and later allow breakout on port 1 only. Port 2 stays without breakout on C9300X-48HXN.
C9300X-NM-2C gives 100G/40G QSFP ports, while C9300X-NM-8Y gives eight 25G/10G/1G SFP28 ports. Choose C9300X-NM-2C for two high-speed QSFP uplinks. Choose C9300X-NM-8Y when the far end is SFP28 or when eight lower-speed uplinks are required on Catalyst 9300X.
