The Cisco Catalyst 9500 Series uses this configuration for fiber aggregation rather than copper endpoint access: the chassis provides no RJ-45 access ports or PoE output. Its 1U rack-mount construction combines fixed optical connectivity with internal power supplies and active cooling. C9500-32QC-E supports 16 native 100G connections, whereas this configuration supports 32. 6400 Gbps switching capacity reaches line rate with packet sizes of 187 bytes or larger, while 2000 Mpps forwarding performance establishes the packet-processing ceiling for traffic sizing. RIP, EIGRP Stub and OSPF provide routed-access functionality, with OSPF limited to 1000 routes under Network Essentials. PBR and VRRP are also included. C9500-32C-E runs Cisco IOS XE with 16 GB of DRAM and 16 GB of flash memory. When a consolidation project needs more lower-speed fiber connections than native cages provide, C9500-32C supports a maximum of 96 breakout connections at 10G or 25G. Breakout support does not make every cage independently interchangeable. Check the intended interface layout and software configuration before specifying breakout media on the PO.
When standardizing hardware asset tracking across sites, C9500-RFID must be selected during ordering if RFID identification is required. C9500-RFID-NONE excludes that selection, and RFID cannot be installed later after opting out. Include the required asset-tracking selection in the configuration before releasing a new-hardware purchase order.
Full dynamic routing at purchase
Network Essentials lacks the full routing feature set, including BGP and IS-IS. C9500-32C-A includes Network Advantage for buyers requiring those capabilities without changing the hardware base.
StackWise Virtual with included licensing
C9500-32C-E cannot enable StackWise Virtual with its included Network Essentials entitlement. C9500-32C-A provides the Network Advantage tier required for a two-switch virtual system.
Native copper endpoint access ports
C9500-32C-E has QSFP28 data connections rather than RJ-45 access ports and supplies no endpoint PoE. Copper endpoint attachment requires a separate access-switch selection.

C9500-32C-E identifies a Catalyst 9500 high-performance switch with 32 native 100G ports and Network Essentials licensing. C9500 identifies the series, 32 identifies the port count, C identifies the 100G configuration, and E identifies Network Essentials. The complete part number distinguishes this configuration from different port arrangements and license tiers.
C9500-32C-E supports Cisco IOS XE CLI and WebUI management, with Catalyst Center or Meraki dashboard options through compatible subscriptions. SSH and Telnet provide remote sessions. The selected management path does not replace the included Network Essentials entitlement, and centralized management requires the corresponding subscription and supported software configuration.
Cisco has not announced an end-of-sale date for Catalyst 9500. C9500-32C-E is outside the specific hardware models with announced retirement dates; certain earlier variants are discontinued. Hardware lifecycle and IOS XE release retirement are separate, so a software end-of-life announcement does not itself retire this switch.
ORM Systems offers C9500-32C-E new sealed or certified refurbished: new orders carry up to a three-year extended warranty; certified refurbished orders carry up to one year. Both conditions have 30-day returns, terms apply. Cisco's Enhanced Limited Lifetime Warranty is original-owner coverage, limited to five years after discontinuance.
C9500-32C-E licensing includes Cisco DNA Essentials or Cisco DNA Advantage and Cisco Catalyst Essentials or Cisco Catalyst Advantage with three-year minimums, plus Cisco Switching Essentials or Cisco Switching Advantage with a 36-month minimum. C9500-32C-E supports static routing, RIP, EIGRP Stub and OSPF with a 1000-route limit under Network Essentials, plus PBR, VRRP and PIM Stub multicast. Full BGP and IS-IS require Network Advantage. The hardware's maximum IPv4 table size is separate from the OSPF entitlement limit and depends on resource allocation.
C9500-32C-A includes Network Advantage, whereas C9500-32C-E includes Network Essentials. Network Advantage adds full routing capabilities and the entitlement required for StackWise Virtual. Buyers retaining routed-access limits can select C9500-32C-E; buyers requiring advanced routing or a licensed virtual pair need the Advantage configuration and matching subscription tier.
C9500-32C-E supports 32 native 100G connections, whereas C9500-32QC-E supports 16 native 100G connections or 32 native 40G connections. Both are Network Essentials configurations. C9500-32QC-E suits a primarily 40G connection plan; C9500-32C-E suits buyers needing 100G connectivity across all 32 native data cages.
C9500-24Y4C-E provides 24 native SFP28 data ports with four QSFP28 uplinks, whereas C9500-32C-E provides 32 native QSFP28 data ports. The smaller SFP28 configuration suits 1G, 10G or 25G aggregation with separate uplinks. C9500-32C-E suits buyers whose connection inventory calls for 32 direct 40G or 100G links.
C9500-32C-E ships with C9K-PWR-1600WAC-R, while a second internal supply is optional rather than included as standard. C9K-PWR-1600WACR/2 is the redundant AC ordering option. The chassis also supports C9K-PWR-1600WDC-R for a DC configuration. Supply selection, input service and the required second unit belong on the hardware configuration.
The Catalyst 9500 C9500-32C configuration supports breakout connections, splitting a supported 40G interface into four 10G interfaces or a supported 100G interface into four 25G interfaces. Breakout operation requires the corresponding media and interface configuration. Native cage count and available breakout connections are different connection-planning quantities.
An entitled Catalyst 9500 continues operating with its perpetual network license after the Cisco DNA add-on is deactivated and the switch reloaded. Renewal retains the subscription capabilities rather than creating the perpetual tier. A Smart Account manages license entitlements and can provide notifications about expiring add-on licenses.
