WS-CBS3120G-S is a managed, non-PoE blade interconnect for HP server enclosures, combining 18 internal Gigabit downlinks with four fixed 10/100/1000 copper uplinks. The Cisco Catalyst Blade Switch 3120 for HP provides Layer 2+ operation with the included IP Base feature set. Modular fiber expansion uses CVR-X2SFP converters, so SFP connectivity comes through an expansion module rather than built-in SFP cages. The Gigabit blade switch connects server interfaces inside the enclosure to the surrounding data center network. Its sibling WS-CBS3120X-S supports X2-based 10G uplinks, but that model is also discontinued. A software feature-set upgrade does not change the G model's external port-speed ceiling.

Static routing and RIPv1/v2 cover base routing functions; OSPF, EIGRP, BGPv4, PBR, and PIM require IP Services rather than the supplied license. WS-CBS3120G-S carries 256 MB of DRAM and 64 MB of flash, with selectable resource templates allocating space among address learning, routes, security entries, and QoS entries. The VLAN template increases MAC capacity to 12000 entries, whereas the routing template supports 11000 unicast routes; those limits are not simultaneous allocations. LACP forms aggregated links to compatible peers, while STP, RSTP, and MSTP control Layer 2 loops. TACACS+ and RADIUS support centralized administrator authentication, and BPDU Guard can disable a PortFast-enabled interface when it receives a BPDU. 60W consumption must be included in the blade enclosure's power allocation; enclosure cooling also serves the interconnect.
