IE-3100-8T4S-E is a fanless industrial managed switch with eight Gigabit copper access ports and four dedicated Gigabit SFP uplinks. Its fixed configuration combines Layer 2 switching with static routing, placing it in the Layer 2+ category. The DIN rail chassis belongs to the Cisco Catalyst IE3100 Rugged Series and carries Network Essentials software. Copper connections carry data without supplying PoE, so attached controllers and other industrial Ethernet devices need their own power. Four independent fiber uplinks distinguish this configuration from IE-3100-8T2C-E, which provides two Gigabit combo uplinks. The industrial Ethernet switch serves manufacturing, transportation, energy, and other hardened-network applications where a conventional wiring-closet chassis is not the required format. Uplink expansion does not depend on installing a removable network card.
IE-3100-8T4S-E price for new stock is $2,081.10, a 45.5% saving from the Cisco list price of $3,818.00. IE-3100-8T4S-E refurb price is $3,793.50. IE-3100-8T4S-E is in stock and available for next-day dispatch. (terms applied)

12 Gbps forwarding bandwidth provides the throughput reference for traffic planning, while 17.856 Mpps forwarding performance applies to 64-byte packets. Static routing and inter-VLAN routing support configured paths between local networks without adding a dynamic routing tier. IE-3100-8T4S-E includes 4 GB of DRAM and 1.5 GB of user-accessible flash for its operating environment and stored files. An 8000-entry MAC table and support for 256 VLANs establish endpoint-learning and segmentation limits. Eight egress queues provide traffic-class separation, with policing, shaping, and priority queuing available for traffic treatment. Cisco IOS XE supports WebUI administration, command-line configuration, and API-based automation through NETCONF and RESTCONF. REP, MRP, and G.8032 Ethernet Ring Protection version 1 provide ring-topology options. Two dry-contact alarm inputs connect external status signals to switch monitoring. The 17.8W power-consumption figure supports thermal-load and battery-capacity planning rather than replacing the current ratings used to size wiring and the external power source.
ORM Systems supplies IE-3100-8T4S-E new sealed or certified refurbished, with up to a 3-year extended ORM warranty on new units and up to 1 year on refurbished units; Cisco's separate platform warranty provides five-year limited hardware coverage. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on, POST, clean boot, rated-speed port links, and optics bay recognition, with firmware verified and configuration wiped to factory default. Specify condition, accessory PIDs, and quantities on the purchase order; every condition includes 30-day returns, with terms applying. Enterprise and volume orders support PO acceptance, Net-30 for government, RMA with advance replacement, and regional stock/RMA in the UK, EU, US, and MEA.

Replaces | IE-2000-4S-TS-G-B / IE-2000-4S-TS-G-L / IE-2000U-4S-G; end-of-sale July 26, 2024. |
When replacing discontinued IE-2000-4S-TS-G-B, IE-2000-4S-TS-G-L, or IE-2000U-4S-G switches, retain the existing fiber requirements rather than assuming the former transceivers transfer unchanged. These predecessors reached end of sale on July 26, 2024. Specify fiber type, link distance, and replacement transceiver PIDs before the PO.
When adding switching to a populated control cabinet, reserve installation space beyond the chassis outline. The installation requires 25.4 mm of clearance above, below, beside, and in front of the unit. Confirm enclosure layout, cable access, protective grounding, and space for the external power equipment before ordering.
When a spare must recover a saved switch configuration, optional removable storage supports the replacement workflow. SD-IE-16GB= is an orderable card rather than an included accessory. Add the card to the spare-switch bill of materials where that workflow is used, and specify image and configuration handling before the PO.
PoE power for connected endpoints
IE-3100-8T4S-E supplies no endpoint power. IE-3100-8P2C-E provides eight PoE+ copper ports, but changes the uplinks to two Gigabit combo connections rather than four dedicated SFP connections.
10G fiber uplinks
IE-3100-8T4S-E has Gigabit SFP uplinks and no removable uplink card bay. A design requiring 10G fiber connections exceeds the speed of its fixed uplink interfaces.

IE-3100-8T4S-E identifies a Catalyst IE3100 switch with eight Gigabit copper ports, four Gigabit SFP uplinks, and Network Essentials. IE-3100 identifies the switch family, 8T represents the copper-port configuration, 4S represents the SFP uplinks, and the final E identifies Network Essentials. The configuration does not provide PoE.
IE-3100-8T4S-E supports WebUI, CLI through console or SSH or Telnet, SNMP, Cisco Catalyst Center, NETCONF, RESTCONF, CIP tools, and PROFINET tools including STEP 7 and TIA Portal. Express Setup handles initial IP configuration. Local console access uses the RJ-45 serial interface or the micro-USB console interface.
IE-3100-8T4S-E includes perpetual Network Essentials; optional Cisco Catalyst Center Essentials is available with a minimum one-year term. IE3100-DNA-E-L-1Y covers the one-year management subscription for this port range. Longer terms are also available. The management subscription is an optional add-on, not a requirement for standalone switching operation.
IE-3100-8T4S-E supports static routing and inter-VLAN routing with Network Essentials. Its routing capability therefore fits the Layer 2+ category rather than a dynamic-routing requirement. Specify the required static paths and VLAN interfaces explicitly; the optional Cisco Catalyst Center subscription adds management capabilities rather than another network routing tier.
IE-3100-8T4S-E accepts external DC power through two inputs, with a nominal range of 12-48V DC and an absolute range of 9.6-60V DC. One source can operate the unit. For redundant operation, connect independent sources; the input with the higher voltage supplies the switch during normal operation.
The Catalyst IE3100 Rugged uses DIN rail mounting rather than a full-width rack chassis. IE-3100-8T4S-E measures 127 mm high, 76.2 mm wide, and 110 mm deep, with a switch-only weight of 0.86 kg. Its rear mounting latch secures the unit to the rail inside the installation enclosure.
Cisco has not announced an end-of-sale date for Catalyst IE3100 Rugged. IE-3100-8T4S-E has no announced hardware end-of-sale milestone or successor PID. End-of-sale dates for the older industrial switches that this model replaces are separate milestones and do not make this switch discontinued.
IE-3100-8T4S-E replaces IE-2000-4S-TS-G-B, IE-2000-4S-TS-G-L, and IE-2000U-4S-G, whose end-of-sale date was July 26, 2024. These are discontinued predecessors, not alternate configurations of the same switch. Review the existing fiber links and configuration before migration because a replacement designation does not establish unchanged port layout or transceiver compatibility.
IE-3100-8P2C-E supplies PoE+ on its eight copper access ports, while IE-3100-8T4S-E supplies no PoE. That distinction determines whether the switch can power attached endpoints through Ethernet. Choose IE-3100-8P2C-E when endpoint power is required; IE-3100-8T4S-E suits devices that receive power separately.
IE-3100-8T4S-E provides four dedicated Gigabit SFP uplinks, while IE-3100-8T2C-E provides two Gigabit combo uplinks. Both configurations have eight copper access ports. The four-SFP model suits a requirement for more independent fiber connections; the combo-uplink model suits buyers needing two uplinks with a copper-or-fiber media choice.
IE-3100-18T2C-E provides eighteen copper access ports, compared with eight on IE-3100-8T4S-E. Copper endpoint density is the deciding distinction for this comparison. Buyers consolidating more wired devices into one switch should assess the eighteen-port configuration; buyers whose copper requirement fits eight ports can retain the smaller access-port count.
ORM Systems offers IE-3100-8T4S-E new sealed or certified refurbished. Cisco's platform warranty is five-year limited hardware coverage, separate from ORM's up to 3-year extended warranty on new units and up to 1 year on refurbished units. Every condition includes 30-day returns; terms apply.
