Fanless Access Switching for Small Business Networks

C1200-16P-2G is a fanless, smart-managed Layer 2+ desktop switch with sixteen Gigabit Ethernet PoE+ access ports and two fixed Gigabit SFP uplinks. The copper ports connect and power compatible phones, wireless access points and surveillance cameras, while the separate fiber uplinks leave the access ports available for endpoints. Cisco Catalyst 1200 switching serves small and medium-sized business networks that need VLAN segmentation and static routing without an enterprise modular chassis. The uplink architecture is fixed rather than an expansion bay, so the selected uplink speed remains part of the hardware configuration. C1200-16T-2G is the closest non-PoE sibling for endpoints with their own power. This 16-port Gigabit PoE+ access switch combines endpoint connectivity with passive cooling, without a cooling fan to accommodate in the installation.

C1200-16P-2G price for new stock is $538.65, a 41.5% saving from the Cisco list price of $921.02. C1200-16P-2G refurb price is $723.19. C1200-16P-2G is in stock and available for next-day dispatch. (terms applied)

Technical Details

36 Gbps switching capacity provides nonblocking forwarding across the installed interfaces. 26.78 Mpps forwarding handles minimum-size Ethernet packets at the switch's rated throughput. 120W of shared PoE allocation powers connected devices within an individual port maximum of 30W; endpoint demand must remain within the aggregate allocation. Static IPv4 routing supports 32 routes and 16 IP interfaces for communication between configured networks, rather than dynamic route exchange. C1200-16P-2G combines 1 GB of DRAM, 512 MB of flash and a dynamically shared 1.5 MB packet buffer for control operations, image storage and packet handling. STP/RSTP/MSTP and LACP provide loop-control and link-aggregation options, while the MAC table holds 8000 entries. Browser management, console access and remote CLI support local administration; Cisco Business Dashboard and the Cisco Business mobile app provide additional management paths. 143.9W maximum consumption, including PoE at 110V AC, is the figure to use when sizing electrical provision.

Ordering

C1200-16P-2G is offered new sealed or certified refurbished; specify the required condition, quantity and accessories on the purchase order. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on and POST, rated-speed port links and clean boot, with PoE output verified under load on every powered port, optics bay recognition, firmware verification and configuration wiped to factory default. ORM's warranty is up to 3-year extended for new units and up to 1 year for certified refurbished units, with 30-day returns on every condition, terms apply. Enterprise and volume orders can use PO acceptance, Net-30 for government and RMA with advance replacement, with regional stock and RMA coverage across the UK, EU, US and MEA.

Buying Notes

Buying NotesKey Specs

No operating subscription required

C1200-16P-2G does not require a software subscription to operate. Specify the hardware without adding an operating subscription solely to enable its included switching and static-routing functions.

Allocate endpoint power first

C1200-16P-2G requires endpoint power allocation: 16 x 30W = 480W exceeds the shared 120W PoE budget. Specify individual endpoint demand before ordering rather than assuming every port delivers maximum power simultaneously.

Select fiber optics separately

C1200-16P-2G fiber connections require separately selected optics. Specify GLC-SX-MMD for supported multimode links or GLC-LH-SMD for supported single-mode links, matching the remote transceiver and installed fiber before completing the PO.

Best For

Legacy Hardware Refresh

When replacing a discontinued CBS250-16P-2G-NA, the replacement purchase should identify the complete new PID rather than preserve the predecessor's regional suffix. The older model reached end of sale on October 29, 2024. Before issuing the PO, reconcile the existing endpoint inventory, fiber connections and installation hardware with the replacement order.

Rack Installation Planning

When an installation requires placement in a standard equipment rack, the compact chassis needs the matching RCKMNT-CMPCT-1K= brackets rather than brackets intended for wider models. Treat mounting hardware as a separate procurement check. Specify RCKMNT-CMPCT-1K= on the PO and confirm the mounting arrangement before scheduling installation.

Multi-Site Configuration Standardization

When several sites need a repeatable configuration, text-editable configuration files support preparation and transfer between switches. CLI privilege levels 1, 7 and 15 allow administrative access to be separated by role. Before the volume PO, agree on the configuration baseline, access permissions and staging checks for every ordered unit.

Not Suitable If

10G uplinks to distribution

C1200-16P-2G has fixed 1G SFP uplinks. C1200-24P-4X provides four 10G SFP+ uplinks, but also changes access density to 24 ports and requires a full-width rack installation.

Maximum power on every endpoint

Sixteen endpoints drawing 30W require 480W, exceeding the shared 120W allocation. C1200-16P-2G cannot supply maximum PoE+ power simultaneously on every access port.

Dynamic routing at the access edge

C1200-16P-2G provides static IPv4/IPv6 routing rather than dynamic route exchange. IPv4 routing supports 32 static routes and 16 IP interfaces, limiting the size of routed configurations.

Questions & Answers

What does each part of C1200-16P-2G mean?

C1200-16P-2G identifies a Catalyst 1200 switch: C1200 is the series identifier, 16 denotes sixteen access ports, P identifies the PoE+ configuration, and 2G denotes two Gigabit SFP uplinks. The complete part number selects the 120W PoE configuration; no additional license-tier suffix appears on this PID.

How is C1200-16P-2G managed?

C1200-16P-2G supports a web UI over HTTP/HTTPS, CLI over SSH or Telnet, RJ-45 and USB-C console access, SNMP, Cisco Business Dashboard and the Cisco Business mobile app. These are alternative administration paths for configuring and monitoring the same switch, rather than separate hardware configurations or license tiers.

How much PoE power does C1200-16P-2G provide?

C1200-16P-2G provides a shared 120W PoE budget across sixteen powered access ports, with a maximum of 30W on an individual port. The aggregate budget is not sixteen simultaneous 30W allocations. Size the order around each endpoint's required power and the combined demand of all connected devices.

Which fiber optics can C1200-16P-2G use?

C1200-16P-2G supports Gigabit SFP optics including GLC-SX-MMD for multimode fiber and GLC-LH-SMD for single-mode fiber. GLC-SX-MMD supports a maximum distance of 550 m, while GLC-LH-SMD supports 10 km. Select the optic for the installed fiber and remote equipment; the fixed uplinks do not provide 10G operation.

Can C1200-16P-2G be installed in a rack?

Yes, C1200-16P-2G can be installed in a 19-inch rack using RCKMNT-CMPCT-1K=. The chassis measures 268 mm wide, 297 mm deep and 44 mm high, so the switch itself is a compact desktop unit rather than a full-width rack chassis. Include the matching brackets in the installation order.

What routing capabilities does the Catalyst 1200 provide?

Catalyst 1200 supports static IPv4/IPv6 routing, with 32 static IPv4 routes and 16 IP interfaces. C1200-16P-2G therefore fits the Layer 2+ category rather than a dynamic-routing access switch. Routed interfaces can be configured on physical ports, link aggregation groups, VLAN interfaces or loopback interfaces within those limits.

Does C1200-16P-2G require a software subscription?

No, C1200-16P-2G does not require a software subscription to operate its included switching and static-routing functions. The Catalyst 1200 uses customized Linux OS software rather than Cisco IOS XE. There is no mandatory operating-subscription term to add when specifying either a new or an ORM certified refurbished hardware order.

What is the lifecycle status of the Catalyst 1200?

Cisco has not announced an end-of-sale date for Catalyst 1200. C1200-16P-2G remains available to order. The discontinuation dates for older CBS250 models apply to those predecessors, not to this replacement; keep the complete part number on the purchase order to distinguish the current hardware from discontinued equipment.

Which older switches does C1200-16P-2G replace?

C1200-16P-2G replaces the discontinued CBS250-16P-2G-AR, CBS250-16P-2G-AU, CBS250-16P-2G-EU, CBS250-16P-2G-JP, CBS250-16P-2G-NA, CBS250-16P-2G-SP, CBS250-16P-2G-UK and CBS250-16P-2G-BR, whose end-of-sale date was October 29, 2024, plus CBS250-16P-2G-IN, whose end-of-sale date was January 31, 2025. Specify the replacement's complete PID rather than carrying a regional predecessor suffix onto the purchase order.

What is the difference between C1200-16P-2G and C1200-16T-2G?

C1200-16P-2G supplies PoE+ to its access ports, whereas C1200-16T-2G has data-only access ports. Both configurations provide sixteen Gigabit copper access ports and two Gigabit SFP uplinks. Choose the powered configuration for compatible endpoints needing switch-delivered power, or the data-only configuration for endpoints with independent power sources.

What is the difference between C1200-16P-2G and C1200-8P-E-2G?

C1200-16P-2G uses an internal AC power supply, while C1200-8P-E-2G uses an external power supply. The smaller model also reduces access density to eight ports. The internal-supply configuration suits orders needing sixteen endpoint connections; the external-supply configuration suits smaller installations where an external adapter can be accommodated.

What is the difference between C1200-16P-2G and C1200-24P-4X?

C1200-16P-2G has two 1G SFP uplinks, while C1200-24P-4X has four 10G SFP+ uplinks. The latter also increases access density to 24 ports and uses a full-width rack chassis. Select the compact configuration for Gigabit uplink requirements, or the larger model when the purchase requires 10G distribution connections.

What conditions and warranties does ORM Systems offer for C1200-16P-2G?

ORM Systems offers C1200-16P-2G new sealed or certified refurbished, separately from Cisco's Limited Lifetime hardware warranty, subject to its terms. ORM's new warranty is up to 3-year extended; certified refurbished is up to 1 year. Both conditions include 30-day returns, terms apply. Refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested, with firmware verified and configuration wiped to factory default.
