Fanless PoE+ Access for Small Business Networks

C1200-8FP-2G combines fanless operation with eight Gigabit Ethernet PoE+ access ports in a compact desktop chassis for small and medium-sized businesses. Two fixed 1G copper/SFP combo uplinks connect the access switch to the wider network, with one connector active per combo port. The Layer 2+ configuration provides access switching for local workgroups. Cisco Catalyst 1200 Series switches connect office computers, IP phones, wireless access points, and video surveillance devices through a customized Linux operating system. C1200-8P-E-2G offers a smaller 67W PoE allocation while retaining the same access-port density. Port security and access control lists restrict endpoint access, while a dedicated voice VLAN can separate phone traffic from other devices. The fixed uplink configuration does not provide a 10G connection.

C1200-8FP-2G price for new stock is $418.95, a 65.3% saving from the Cisco list price of $1,206.40. C1200-8FP-2G refurb price is $603.20. C1200-8FP-2G is in stock and available for next-day dispatch. (terms applied)

Technical Details

20 Gbps switching capacity supports the nonblocking forwarding design across the fixed Ethernet interfaces. 14.88 Mpps forwarding at 64-byte packet sizes defines the packet-processing limit for traffic sizing. 120W of shared PoE capacity supplies attached endpoints within their aggregate allocation. Static IPv4 and IPv6 routing handles manually configured network paths rather than dynamic route learning. C1200-8FP-2G carries 1 GB of DRAM and 512 MB of flash for configuration and firmware operation. This eight-port Gigabit PoE+ switch shares a 1.5 MB packet buffer across interfaces rather than reserving that capacity for each port. STP/RSTP/MSTP and LACP provide loop control and link aggregation. Eight hardware queues support strict-priority or Weighted Round-Robin scheduling for differentiated traffic handling. An 8000-entry MAC table accommodates learned endpoint addresses. Browser configuration, scriptable CLI access, and SNMP provide local administration and monitoring options, while dual firmware images support image management during upgrades.

Ordering

ORM Systems supplies C1200-8FP-2G new sealed or certified refurbished; refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested, with power-on and POST checks, clean boot, every port linking at rated speed, optics bay recognition, and PoE output verified under load on every powered port. Select the condition and accessory quantities for the purchase order; new units carry up to a 3-year extended ORM warranty, certified refurbished units up to 1 year, and every condition has 30-day returns with terms applying. Cisco's separate hardware warranty is limited lifetime with return-to-factory replacement. Enterprise and volume orders can use PO acceptance, government Net-30, and RMA with advance replacement.

Buying Notes

Buying NotesKey Specs

Fiber uplinks need optics

Fiber deployment of C1200-8FP-2G requires separately ordered transceivers. Specify GLC-SX-MMD for multimode fiber or GLC-LH-SMD for single-mode fiber, and select one medium for each shared copper/SFP uplink.

Refurbished configuration starts clean

Certified refurbished C1200-8FP-2G units arrive with firmware verified and configuration wiped to factory default. Include configuration staging in the order plan rather than expecting a previous owner's settings to remain.

Best For

Routed Office Expansion

When a small office needs communication between separately addressed workgroups, the 16-IP-interface ceiling becomes a sizing constraint. Count planned VLAN interfaces alongside routed physical, link-aggregation, or loopback interfaces. Include the interface map and manually maintained destination plan with the purchase order before committing to the expanded network configuration.

Multi-Site Device Onboarding

When several locations need a common onboarding process, the embedded Cisco Business Dashboard probe removes the requirement for a separate probe appliance at each site. Keep local device access and central dashboard enrollment in the staging plan, and specify site quantities, management addresses, and onboarding responsibilities before issuing the purchase order.

Traffic Capture Staging

When a staging bench must reproduce traffic behavior before shipment, port mirroring accepts 4 source ports for 1 destination port. Reserve the analyzer connection separately from test endpoints and define the capture sources. Check analyzer cabling, endpoint connections, and the capture plan before releasing the purchase order.

Not Suitable If

10G uplinks to distribution

C1200-8FP-2G stops at 1G on its fixed combo uplinks. C1200-24P-4X provides four 10G SFP+ uplinks and 24 access ports in a full-width rack chassis.

More than eight powered endpoints

C1200-8FP-2G has eight PoE+ access ports. C1200-16P-2G provides 16 powered access ports, but its 120W shared PoE budget does not increase with the additional ports.

Dynamic routing between network segments

C1200-8FP-2G supports static routing, with 32 IPv4 routes and 16 IP interfaces. Networks requiring dynamic route learning exceed the routing feature set available on this model.

Questions & Answers

What does the C1200-8FP-2G part number mean?

C1200-8FP-2G identifies a Catalyst 1200 switch: C1200 names the series, 8 indicates eight access ports, FP identifies the 120W PoE+ configuration, and 2G indicates two Gigabit copper/SFP combo uplinks. The access ports support 10/100/1000 Mbps. Full PoE denotes the higher-budget variant, not eight simultaneous 30W allocations.

How is C1200-8FP-2G managed?

C1200-8FP-2G supports an HTTP/HTTPS web UI, CLI through SSH, Telnet, RJ-45 console or USB-C console, Cisco Business Dashboard, Cisco Business mobile app, and SNMP versions 1, 2c, and 3. An optional USB Bluetooth dongle also enables browser or CLI access. The dashboard can use the embedded probe instead of a separate onsite probe.

How much PoE power does C1200-8FP-2G provide?

C1200-8FP-2G provides a shared 120W PoE budget across eight PoE+ access ports, with a 30W per-port ceiling. The aggregate budget limits simultaneous endpoint draw, so eight endpoints cannot all receive 30W together. Compare each device's requested allocation with the shared budget before selecting the switch quantity.

Which uplinks and optics does C1200-8FP-2G support?

C1200-8FP-2G has two fixed 1G copper/SFP combo uplinks. Each uplink activates either its RJ-45 connector or SFP slot, not both. GLC-SX-MMD serves multimode fiber; GLC-LH-SMD serves single-mode fiber. Order the appropriate transceivers separately and retain the shared-port arrangement in the cabling plan.

Can C1200-8FP-2G route between VLANs?

Yes, C1200-8FP-2G supports inter-VLAN static routing, with 32 static IPv4 routes and 16 IP interfaces. IPv6 packet routing is also supported. Layer 2+ operation uses fixed routing entries rather than dynamic route learning. Count routed interfaces and static destinations before finalizing the network configuration and issuing the purchase order.

Is C1200-8FP-2G a desktop or rack-mount switch?

C1200-8FP-2G is a compact desktop switch that can also use the RCKMNT-CMPCT-1K= bracket kit for a 19-inch rack. The chassis measures 268 mm wide, 185 mm deep, and 44 mm high. Eight-port models do not include the 19-inch brackets, so specify RCKMNT-CMPCT-1K= separately for rack installation.

What power supply does C1200-8FP-2G use?

C1200-8FP-2G uses an internal universal AC supply accepting 100-240V AC at 50-60 Hz. Worst-case input consumption reaches 145.44W with PoE at 110V; the 220V figure is 141.8W. Specify a regional power cord and size upstream AC protection from input consumption rather than the power delivered to endpoints.

What is the lifecycle status of the Catalyst 1200?

Cisco has not announced an end-of-sale date for Catalyst 1200. C1200-8FP-2G remains an orderable member of that series. The exact hardware configuration is still the relevant selection point: retain the complete part number and requested condition on the purchase order rather than substituting a discontinued predecessor.

What older switches does C1200-8FP-2G replace?

C1200-8FP-2G replaces discontinued CBS250-8FP-E-2G-AR, CBS250-8FP-E-2G-AU, CBS250-8FP-E-2G-BR, CBS250-8FP-E-2G-EU, CBS250-8FP-E-2G-JP, CBS250-8FP-E-2G-NA, CBS250-8FP-E-2G-SP, CBS250-8FP-E-2G-TW, CBS250-8FP-E-2G-UK, and CBS250-8FP-E-2G-IN. End of sale was October 29, 2024 for the first nine; the India variant ended sale January 31, 2025. Their last support date is October 31, 2029.

What conditions and warranties does ORM Systems offer for C1200-8FP-2G?

ORM Systems offers C1200-8FP-2G new sealed or certified refurbished, with up to a 3-year extended warranty for new units and up to 1 year for refurbished units. Cisco's hardware warranty is limited lifetime with return-to-factory replacement. Returns are available for 30 days in every condition; terms apply.

What is the difference between C1200-8FP-2G and C1200-8P-E-2G?

C1200-8FP-2G provides a 120W PoE budget, while C1200-8P-E-2G provides 67W. Both configurations have eight PoE+ access ports, so the budget difference changes endpoint power allocation rather than access-port count. Choose C1200-8FP-2G when aggregate powered-device demand needs the larger allowance; C1200-8P-E-2G suits lower combined PoE demand.

What is the difference between C1200-8FP-2G and C1200-8T-E-2G?

C1200-8FP-2G uses an internal universal AC power supply, while C1200-8T-E-2G uses an external AC adapter. The difference determines whether the mains connection terminates at the chassis or a separate adapter. C1200-8FP-2G suits self-contained AC installation; C1200-8T-E-2G suits installations that accommodate an external adapter.

What is the difference between C1200-8FP-2G and C1200-16P-2G?

C1200-8FP-2G has eight PoE+ access ports, while C1200-16P-2G has 16. The additional access-port count is the reason to select the larger configuration, not a different endpoint connection speed. C1200-8FP-2G suits an eight-endpoint purchase; C1200-16P-2G suits a higher-density order after aggregate endpoint power has been sized.
