C1200-8T-D is a fanless desktop switch for small-business copper Ethernet networks, combining eight 10/100/1000 RJ-45 ports with Layer 2+ operation. No dedicated uplink or module bay is installed, so a router or upstream switch connects through one of the same access ports rather than a separate fiber interface. The Cisco Catalyst 1200 series serves small and medium-sized businesses that need configurable switching without a full-width wiring-closet chassis. These data ports do not deliver PoE power to endpoints; attached computers, printers, phones, and access points need independent power where required. C1200-8T-E-2G differs by adding two 1G copper/SFP combo uplinks. 16 Gbps switching capacity provides nonblocking traffic handling across the copper interfaces, and 11.9 Mpps forwarding handles 64-byte packets at wire speed. 32 IPv4 static routes support local traffic between configured IP networks without dynamic routing protocols. The switching feature set includes STP, RSTP, MSTP, and LACP for loop control and link aggregation. C1200-8T-D carries 1 GB of DRAM, 512 MB of flash, and a dynamically shared 1.5 MB packet buffer for traffic across the system. An 8000-entry MAC table supports address learning, while 255 active VLANs provide traffic separation. Management is available through a browser, a scriptable CLI over the network, Cisco Business Dashboard, Cisco Business mobile app, and SNMP. The embedded software uses customized Linux OS. 7.09W maximum system consumption at 220V establishes the power allowance for operation within the 0°C to 50°C temperature range. Local RJ-45 and USB-C console connections are absent.

C1200-8T-D identifies a Catalyst 1200 desktop switch with eight non-PoE 10/100/1000 copper ports. C1200 denotes the series, 8 identifies the port count, T corresponds to the data-port configuration, and D identifies Desktop. The part number has no separate uplink or software-license segment.
Catalyst 1200 switches support the HTTP/HTTPS web interface, CLI over SSH or Telnet, Cisco Business Dashboard, Cisco Business mobile app, and SNMP versions 1, 2c, or 3. C1200-8T-D has no RJ-45 or USB-C console port, so management access uses the network rather than a local console cable.
C1200-8T-D supports 802.3af PoE input on port 1, but does not supply PoE output to connected devices. External AC power is the other input method. A powered Ethernet connection supplies the switch itself; phones, cameras, and access points still need their own power source.
C1200-8T-D has no dedicated uplink ports; all eight network connections are 10/100/1000 RJ-45 ports. An upstream connection uses one of those eight ports. There are no SFP or SFP+ cages, and a removable uplink card cannot add fiber or faster upstream connections.
C1200-8T-D supports static routing between VLANs, with 32 IPv4 static routes and 16 IP interfaces. Routing interfaces can use physical ports, link aggregation groups, VLANs, or loopbacks. Plan the addressing and route entries before deployment; the switch provides static routing rather than dynamic routing protocol support.
Catalyst 1200 switches require no separate software license purchase or subscription term for switching features. The embedded operating system is customized Linux OS, rather than an enterprise network-license tier. Hardware orders therefore do not need a separate switching subscription line or a minimum software subscription term.
C1200-8T-D replaces the discontinued CBS250-8T-D-AU, CBS250-8T-D-CN, CBS250-8T-D-EU, CBS250-8T-D-JP, CBS250-8T-D-NA, CBS250-8T-D-UK, CBS250-8T-D-BR, CBS250-8T-D-KR, and CBS250-8T-D-IN. The first eight reached end of sale on October 29, 2024; CBS250-8T-D-IN reached end of sale on January 31, 2025. Specify the complete older regional PID when identifying the replacement requirement.
Cisco has not announced an end-of-sale date for Catalyst 1200. C1200-8T-D remains an orderable member of the series. End-of-sale dates attached to discontinued CBS250 predecessors do not apply to this model, and predecessor support milestones should not be transferred to a replacement purchase.
C1200-8P-E-2G supplies PoE+ on eight access ports with a shared 67W budget, while C1200-8T-D supplies no endpoint power. C1200-8T-D suits endpoints powered independently. C1200-8P-E-2G suits purchases needing switch-provided endpoint power, provided the combined device demand is sized against the shared budget.
C1200-8T-D accepts external AC power or 802.3af input on port 1, while C1200-8FP-2G uses an internal 100-240V AC supply. The desktop model suits orders requiring PoE-powered operation of the switch itself; C1200-8FP-2G suits buyers specifying internal AC power rather than an external power source.
