240 Gbps switching capacity and 178.57 Mpps forwarding support traffic across the fixed interfaces. C1300-12XS provides static routing, RIP v2, and PBR. Front Panel Stacking combines eight members into one managed system, using network interfaces reconfigured as stack links rather than separate rear stacking connectors.

C1300-12XS Use Case
Server Access Layer
The C1300-12XS sits at the top of a small server rack and terminates 10G SFP+ links from hosts, storage arrays, and virtualization nodes. Its ten 10G SFP+ ports carry tagged VLAN trunks into the server access layer, while the two 10G copper/SFP+ combo ports attach short-reach RJ-45 appliances or fiber uplinks without changing the rack layout. Engineers configure LACP groups for paired server NICs and apply DSCP/802.1p QoS classification for iSCSI or storage replication traffic. The rack gains a compact 10G access point with controlled east-west traffic paths.
Access Switch Aggregation
The C1300-12XS operates as a 10G distribution switch for downstream access switches that present SFP+ uplinks. Ten dedicated 10G SFP+ ports terminate fiber runs from access closets, and the two 10G combo ports connect either copper handoffs or additional SFP+ links toward the upstream core. VLANs stay defined on 802.1Q trunks, with Rapid STP or MSTP controlling Layer 2 topology and LACP bundling parallel uplinks where access switches support it. The aggregation point reduces oversubscription and keeps access-layer uplinks on a consistent 10G handoff.
Management Plane Access
In a managed rack, the C1300-12XS separates operational control from production forwarding by using its 1 GE out-of-band management port for administration and its 10G interfaces for data-plane trunks. Network teams place the management interface in a dedicated management network and use SSH, HTTPS, SNMPv3 traps, syslog, and TACACS+/RADIUS client functions for monitoring and controlled operator access. The 10G SFP+ and combo ports remain assigned to server or distribution traffic. The design preserves administrative reachability when production VLAN changes or uplink maintenance affect the data plane.

Existing Stack Expansion
An expansion of an existing stack requires planning the ports that will become inter-switch links. Stacking requires at least two enabled stacking ports, and those interfaces no longer carry ordinary network traffic. Reserve the connections, confirm the intended ring or chain topology, and specify the interconnect quantities before ordering.
