C1300-8FP-2G is a fanless, managed Layer 2+ desktop switch with eight Gigabit RJ-45 PoE+ access ports and two fixed Gigabit copper/SFP combo uplinks. Each combo uplink provides a choice of copper or fiber connectivity, with one medium active at a time. The Catalyst 1300 series serves small-business networks and enterprise branch offices, connecting workstations while powering IP phones, wireless access points, and surveillance cameras. Compared with C1300-8P-E-2G, which provides a 67W endpoint power allocation, this configuration offers a larger shared allocation for powered devices. An internal universal AC supply connects directly to the chassis without an external power adapter. The compact Gigabit PoE+ access switch also supports local inter-VLAN forwarding rather than operating solely as an unmanaged endpoint concentrator.

20 Gbps switching capacity supports nonblocking forwarding across the access and uplink interfaces. 14.88 Mpps forwarding at 64-byte packets provides the packet-rate reference for traffic planning. 120W of shared PoE output powers compatible endpoints within the aggregate allocation. Static routing, RIP v2, and PBR provide local routing and next-hop selection; OSPF is unavailable on this model. C1300-8FP-2G includes 1 GB of DRAM and 1 GB of flash for its customized Linux OS software. A dynamically shared 1.5 MB packet buffer accommodates traffic across the ports. STP/RSTP/MSTP provide loop control, while LACP groups links for aggregated connections. Management is available through a browser, CLI, Cisco Business Dashboard, and the Cisco Business mobile app. The 16000-entry MAC table supports address learning, while 990 total IPv4 routes provide the routing-table limit for network planning. DHCP snooping, Dynamic ARP Inspection, and IP Source Guard support access-side traffic controls.

When retiring discontinued C1000-8FP-2G-L or C1000-8FP-E-2G-L hardware, the replacement purchase requires a configuration review rather than assuming an identical software environment. Those models reached end of sale on April 30, 2025. Specify the existing configuration and migration requirements with the replacement order.
When a branch needs separate IP networks for staff, voice, and guest devices, the switch supports 128 IP interfaces for local segmentation. Physical ports, VLAN interfaces, and link aggregation groups can carry routed interfaces. Check the required interface inventory and upstream routing requirements before specifying the configuration.
When ordering equipment for a small branch rack, the compact chassis requires RCKMNT-CMPCT-1K= for a 19-inch installation. RCKMNT-CMPCT-1K= is not included with this eight-port model. C1300-8FP-2G limits uplinks to 1G. C1300-8MGP-2X provides two 10G SFP+ uplinks and also changes four access ports to 2.5G.
Hardware stacking with a single IP
C1300-8FP-2G does not support hardware stacking. C1300-8MGP-2X supports Front Panel Stacking with eight members, using its high-speed interfaces for stack connections.
OSPF dynamic routing requirements
C1300-8FP-2G supports RIP v2 and static routing rather than OSPF. Catalyst 1300X supports OSPF v2 and v3, with different port configurations.

C1300 names the series; 8 gives the access-port count; FP distinguishes the higher-budget PoE+ configuration; 2G identifies the two Gigabit uplinks. No license-tier suffix is present.
The Catalyst 1300 series supports an HTTP/HTTPS web interface, CLI over SSH or Telnet, RJ-45 and USB-C consoles, Cisco Business Dashboard, the Cisco Business mobile app, and SNMP. Bluetooth management requires an external USB dongle. Specify CAB-CONSOLE-RJ45 or CAB-CONSOLE-USB-C= when a console connection is required for initial configuration.
C1300-8FP-2G supplies up to 30W of PoE+ on each of eight access ports, sharing a 120W total budget. Eight endpoints requesting 30W each would require 240W, so full per-port power is not available simultaneously across all ports. Size the purchase around the combined endpoint power demand.
C1300-8FP-2G has two fixed 1G copper/SFP combo uplinks, with one active medium per uplink. Fiber use requires separately ordered optics; MGBSX1 supports multimode fiber to 500 m, while MGBLX1 supports single-mode fiber to 10 km. Select optics to match the fiber type, reach, and remote connection.
The Catalyst 1300 series supports static routing, RIP v2, and PBR; C1300-8FP-2G supports 990 total IPv4 routes and 128 IP interfaces. Routed interfaces can use a physical port, VLAN, or link aggregation group. OSPF is unavailable on this model, so check upstream protocol requirements before ordering.
C1300-8FP-2G uses a 268 mm-wide desktop chassis and can be installed in a 19-inch rack with RCKMNT-CMPCT-1K=. RCKMNT-CMPCT-1K= is ordered separately for this eight-port model. Specify RCKMNT-CMPCT-1K= on the purchase order when rack installation is required rather than expecting full-width brackets in the base package.
C1300-8FP-2G operates without a required software subscription or a separately purchased switch software license. The Catalyst 1300 series runs customized Linux OS software rather than Cisco IOS XE. New sealed and certified refurbished orders do not require an additional software subscription line item to operate the switch.
C1300-8FP-2G does not support hardware stacking, so no stack kit or stack cable belongs on an order for this model. Cisco Business Dashboard provides centralized management, but managing several units together does not create a hardware stack. Specify standalone switches when standardizing this configuration across sites.
