480 Gbps switching capacity defines the maximum fabric bandwidth available to the optical connections. 360 Mpps forwarding provides a separate packet-processing ceiling for traffic sizing. OSPFv2, OSPFv3, EIGRP, EIGRPv6, IS-ISv4, BGPv4 and BGPv6 support dynamic unicast routing, while PIM-SM, PIM-SSM and PIM-BIDIR support multicast distribution. C9500-24X-A carries 16 GB DRAM for control-plane operation and 16 GB flash for software-image storage. A maximum of 4094 VLAN IDs accommodates logical segmentation, and 1000 switched virtual interfaces provide routed VLAN interfaces. Jumbo frames reach 9198 bytes where the forwarding configuration requires larger Ethernet frames. Cisco IOS XE supports CLI and embedded WebUI administration, with NETCONF, RESTCONF and gNMI interfaces for automation. MACsec provides 256-bit AES-GCM link encryption; WAN MACsec is not supported. C9500-24X-A identifies a Catalyst 9500 bundle with 24 total 10G-capable optical connections and Network Advantage. C9500 identifies the switch family, 24X identifies the 10G bundle, and A identifies the license tier. The hardware comprises sixteen fixed ports plus the included eight-port C9500-NM-8X network module, not twenty-four fixed ports.
The Catalyst 9500 supports CLI, embedded WebUI, Catalyst Center and Meraki dashboard monitoring, with NETCONF, RESTCONF and gNMI/gNOI for automation. Out-of-band access uses RJ-45 and USB-mini Type B interfaces. WebUI comes with the default image; centralized management and assurance capabilities depend on the selected subscription and software release.
C9500-24X-A is discontinued, with end of sale on April 30, 2026, and Cisco support ending April 30, 2031. C9500-24Y4C-A is the current successor. C9500-24X-A-RF denotes Cisco-remanufactured hardware, distinct from ORM's certified refurbished condition. C9500-24X-A is the Network Advantage form of the historical C9500-24X migration option for discontinued WS-C4500X-24X-ES, WS-C4500X-24X-IPB and C1-C4500X-24X-IPB. Those older switches ended sales on October 30, 2020. Because this replacement bundle is also discontinued, current hardware-standard planning should follow the chain forward to C9500-24Y4C-A.
C9500-24X-A includes C9500-NM-8X, an eight-port 1/10G SFP+ network module. The included module supplies the additional optical connections that distinguish this bundle from the sixteen-port base configuration. C9500-NM-2Q is the compatible two-port 40G module alternative, but selecting that module changes the uplink configuration rather than adding ports alongside C9500-NM-8X.
C9500-24X-A ships with one PWR-C4-950WAC-R AC power supply; a second internal supply is optional rather than standard hardware redundancy. PWR-C4-950WAC-R/2 is the redundant AC supply ordering option. Specify the second supply explicitly when the purchase requires dual internal power feeds rather than assuming both bays arrive populated.
C9500-24X-A supports RIPv2, RIPng, OSPFv2, OSPFv3, EIGRP, EIGRPv6, IS-ISv4, BGPv4 and BGPv6 for unicast routing, plus PIM-SM, PIM-SSM and PIM-BIDIR for multicast. Network Advantage supplies the advanced network feature tier. Forwarding-table allocation remains dependent on the selected resource template and prefix mix, independently of protocol availability.
The C9500-24X-A configuration of the Catalyst 9500 is a full-width, 1U rack-mounted switch, not a desktop unit. The enclosure measures 43.9 mm high, 444.5 mm wide and 546.6 mm deep. Standard rack brackets accompany the hardware, while C9500-4PT-KIT= provides the optional four-point mounting rails and brackets.
The C9500-24X-A hardware supports separate maximums of 64000 indirect IPv4 routes and 80000 host routes, with template-dependent allocation rather than a single additive route total. Distribution, core and NAT templates assign resources differently. Prefix combinations also affect allocation, so validate the active template instead of treating separate maxima as simultaneously guaranteed.
C9500-24X-A includes Network Advantage, while C9500-24X-E includes Network Essentials on the same optical hardware bundle. Network Advantage adds advanced routing, segmentation and multicast capabilities beyond the foundational tier. Both models are discontinued: the A variant suits advanced-feature requirements in existing installations, while the E variant serves installations requiring the Essentials feature set.
C9500-24X-A includes eight additional optical connections through C9500-NM-8X, while C9500-16X-A has sixteen fixed ports without a bundled network module. The Catalyst 9500 can continue operating with its perpetual base-license capabilities after an add-on subscription expires, provided the add-on is deactivated and the switch is reloaded. Renew the subscription to retain its subscription-dependent capabilities. Network Advantage is distinct from those expiring services, and buying through a reseller does not itself grant subscription entitlements.
