C9500-40X-A-FTTD is a managed Layer 3 fiber switch supplied as a 40-port 1G bundle on native 1/10G-capable SFP/SFP+ hardware. The Catalyst 9500 configuration pairs Network Advantage with an empty modular uplink bay for enterprise core and aggregation connections. Its full-width 1U chassis handles optical links rather than native copper access or endpoint PoE. The discontinued C9500-40X-A= spare omits the PWR-C4-950WAC-R supplied with this bundle. As part of the Catalyst 9000 family, the switch combines a fixed data-port bank with separately selected uplink hardware, allowing the purchase configuration to distinguish existing fiber connections from additional uplink requirements.

960 Gbps maximum switching capacity defines the hardware switching ceiling, not the aggregate traffic available through the bundle's original 1G connections. 720 Mpps maximum forwarding establishes the packet-processing limit for traffic sizing. OSPF, EIGRP, BGPv4, and IS-IS support routed-core designs under the included network tier, with PBR and VRRP available for forwarding policy and gateway control. C9500-40X-A-FTTD carries 16 GB of DRAM and 16 GB of flash for the operating environment and local software storage. Flexible ASIC templates allocate UADP 2.0 XL resources between MAC, route, security, and QoS functions, so template selection belongs alongside the intended traffic and route mix. The embedded WebUI and CLI provide local administration; NETCONF/YANG and SNMP support integration with existing tools. Five FAN-T4-R fans move air front to back, and rack placement must keep both airflow paths clear. Native 25G data-port connectivity is not available on this hardware.
Specify C9500-40X-A-FTTD as new sealed or certified refurbished, and put the required condition and configuration on the purchase order. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on and POST, rated-speed links on every port, clean boot, optics bay recognition, PWR-C4-950WAC-R status, and FAN-T4-R status; firmware is verified and configurations are wiped to factory default. ORM Systems provides up to a 3-year extended warranty on new units, up to 1 year on certified refurbished units, and 30-day returns for every condition, terms apply; Cisco's separate Enhanced Limited Lifetime warranty is original-owner dependent and ends by April 30, 2029. Enterprise and volume orders can use POs, Net-30 for government, and RMA with advance replacement across UK, EU, US, and MEA.

When a rack build requires two independent AC feeds, the power configuration must be completed before the chassis order is released. PWR-C4-950WAC-R/2 adds the second AC power path; identify both feed connections and specify the complete configuration on the PO.
When a deployment uses Multichassis EtherChannel, the logical-switch design determines the chassis purchase. C9500-40X-A-FTTD supports connections presented to attached access or core switches as one logical port channel. Specify the peer chassis, interconnection optics, and port-channel design before issuing the hardware purchase order.
When a lab image must remain within the supported software train, IOS XE 17.18 is the terminal release family for this hardware. The final software maintenance release is 17.18.1, with subsequent 17.18 releases receiving vulnerability and security support. Specify the required image before ordering a staging unit.
Native 25G fiber access connections
Fixed data ports use 1/10G SFP/SFP+ cages, not SFP28. C9500-48Y4C provides 48 native 1/10/25G ports and four 40/100G uplinks, changing both density and uplink architecture.
Copper endpoints requiring switch-delivered power
Optical data ports provide neither native RJ-45 access connections nor PoE output. Adding C9500-NM-8X or C9500-NM-2Q changes optical connectivity, not endpoint power delivery or copper access capacity.
New Cisco support-contract attachment
New Cisco service attachment closed April 30, 2025. Purchases requiring a newly attached Cisco contract should consider current replacement C9500-48Y4C rather than assuming remaining hardware stock restores eligibility.

C9500-40X-A-FTTD identifies a Catalyst 9500 40-port fiber bundle with Network Advantage, one PWR-C4-950WAC-R, and three-year Cisco DNA Advantage. C9500 identifies the series, 40X identifies the 40-port 1/10G hardware, A selects Network Advantage, and FTTD identifies the 1G bundle rather than the standard 10G ordering configuration.
C9500-40X-A-FTTD is managed through Cisco IOS XE CLI and embedded WebUI, with NETCONF/YANG and SNMP integration. Catalyst Center provides centralized automation, while the Meraki dashboard offers cloud monitoring rather than a separate operating system. Controller-based capabilities depend on the selected subscription and supported software release.
C9500-40X-A-FTTD reached end of sale on April 30, 2024, and Cisco's last support date is April 30, 2029. New service attachment ended April 30, 2025; existing eligible contracts do not remove the final support limit. C9500-48Y4C is the replacement for migration planning.
ORM Systems offers C9500-40X-A-FTTD new sealed with up to a 3-year extended warranty, or certified refurbished with up to 1 year. Both conditions have 30-day returns; terms apply. Cisco's separate Enhanced Limited Lifetime warranty covers the original owner, subject to eligibility, and ends no later than April 30, 2029.
C9500-40X-A-FTTD includes perpetual Network Advantage and three-year Cisco DNA Advantage. Family options include Cisco DNA Essentials or Advantage, Catalyst Essentials or Advantage, and Cisco Switching Essentials or Advantage through Cisco Networking Subscription, each starting at three years. Smart Account allocation is required; Cisco DNA expiry leaves base networking available.
C9500-40X-A-FTTD is the 40-port 1G fiber bundle built on C9500-40X hardware with native 1/10G SFP/SFP+ cages. The bundle should not be confused with a copper access switch or a populated uplink-module bundle. Confirm the intended optic speed and the separately ordered uplink configuration before purchase.
The Catalyst 9500 40-port fiber switch accepts C9500-NM-8X for eight 1/10G SFP/SFP+ ports or C9500-NM-2Q for two 40G QSFP+ ports. The base bundle leaves the uplink bay empty, so the purchase order must identify the chosen module and compatible transceivers. Module compatibility does not include optics automatically.
Yes, C9500-40X-A-FTTD supports StackWise Virtual with two chassis under Network Advantage. The pair appears as one logical switch to attached access or core equipment, and Multichassis EtherChannel can span both members. Specify the interconnection optics and port-channel design with the peer chassis before issuing the hardware purchase order.
Catalyst 9500 with Network Advantage supports OSPF, EIGRP, BGPv4, IS-IS, static routing, and RIP-family routing. Advanced routing belongs to the perpetual network tier rather than depending on continued Cisco DNA subscription renewal. Hardware route resources vary with the selected flexible ASIC template, so the intended route mix needs review.
The Catalyst 9500 40-port fiber bundle includes one PWR-C4-950WAC-R, so redundant AC power is optional rather than standard. Add PWR-C4-950WAC-R/2 for the second supply position. The 950W output rating of PWR-C4-950WAC-R differs from the system's 850W maximum consumption; those figures describe different power requirements.
C9500-40X-A-FTTD includes one PWR-C4-950WAC-R, while C9500-40X-A= is a discontinued Network Advantage spare without a PWR-C4-950WAC-R. Both configurations are discontinued. The FTTD bundle suits orders requiring an included PWR-C4-950WAC-R, while the spare suits buyers reusing an existing compatible PWR-C4-950WAC-R from their installed equipment inventory.
C9500-40X-A-FTTD carries Network Advantage, whereas discontinued C9500-40X-E carries Network Essentials. Network Advantage adds BGPv4, EIGRP, and IS-IS beyond the baseline tier. Both models are discontinued; the FTTD tier suits advanced routed-core requirements, while Essentials fits installations needing baseline switching and routing without those advanced protocols.
C9500-48Y4C supports native 25G fiber connections, while C9500-40X-A-FTTD uses 1/10G-capable hardware in a 1G bundle. C9500-48Y4C is the current replacement; the FTTD bundle is discontinued. Existing installations retaining original connection speeds fit the older configuration, while new 25G requirements point to the replacement.
