C9500-40X-P is a managed Layer 3 enterprise core and aggregation switch with forty fixed 10G SFP+ interfaces in a 1U rack-mount chassis. The non-PoE design aggregates optical connections rather than supplying endpoint power. Cisco Catalyst 9500 provides the fixed-core architecture within the Catalyst 9000 family, with an optional uplink module rather than an installed expansion card. C9500-NM-8X adds eight 1/10G interfaces, while C9500-NM-2Q adds two 40G interfaces. The discontinued C9500-40X-2Q-E bundles C9500-NM-2Q, distinguishing that package from the chassis configuration offered here. Fixed data-port density and separately selected expansion are therefore different purchasing decisions: the chassis establishes the aggregation interfaces, while the selected module determines additional connectivity.

960 Gbps switching capacity establishes the chassis throughput ceiling, while 720 Mpps forwarding performance provides the packet-rate limit for traffic sizing. A 64000-entry MAC table supports address learning; available table allocations vary with the selected SDM template. C9500-40X-P runs Cisco IOS XE, with network functionality governed by the purchased software entitlement. Five FAN-T4-R= fan modules provide front-to-back cooling, and a second internal power-supply bay permits optional supply redundancy. PWR-C4-950WAC-R is the default AC supply; PWR-C4-950WDC-R supports a DC-powered configuration. The enclosure measures 44 mm high, 445 mm wide, and 567 mm deep, with a maximum published weight of 11.68 kg including two supplies, which affects rack support and loading. SSH, Telnet, and SNMP provide network administration paths through the management interface. Native 25G and 100G data interfaces are absent.
ORM Systems offers C9500-40X-P new sealed or certified refurbished, with up to a 3-year extended warranty for new units, up to 1 year for certified refurbished units, and 30-day returns on every condition; terms apply. Refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on, POST, clean boot, every data port linking at rated speed, optics recognition, and module-bay recognition; firmware is verified and configuration wiped to factory default. Specify condition, C9500-NM-8X or C9500-NM-2Q requirements, and PWR-C4-950WAC-R quantity on the purchase order; Cisco's separate Enhanced Limited Lifetime Warranty is subject to eligibility, with support ending April 30, 2029. Enterprise and volume orders support PO acceptance, Net-30 for government, and RMA with advance replacement.

When several equipment rooms must use the same four-post mounting arrangement, C9500-4PT-KIT= supplies the extension rails and brackets for this chassis. NEBS installation requires four-post mounting rather than relying only on front brackets. Specify C9500-4PT-KIT= and verify the rack's front-to-rear mounting distance before issuing the purchase order.
When replacement hardware must be configured before shipment to a remote site, the dedicated 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet management port separates management access through Mgmt-vrf. Console access also permits initial setup without a production connection. Specify the intended management connection and staging configuration before issuing the purchase order.
When a spare chassis will be commissioned without an uplink card, the uplink opening still needs its airflow blank. NM-C4-10G-BLANK closes the unused bay; operation requires either the blank or an installed network module. Include NM-C4-10G-BLANK in the spare's packing list and receiving inspection requirements before placing the order.
Native 25G or 100G fiber connectivity
C9500-40X-P has 10G fixed interfaces and a 40G modular-uplink ceiling. The current replacement, C9500-48Y4C, provides 48 native 1/10/25G interfaces and four 40/100G uplinks.
PoE power for attached endpoints
C9500-40X-P provides optical data interfaces rather than powered copper access ports. Endpoint power must come from separate equipment; this chassis does not provide a PoE access-port bank.

C9500-40X-P denotes a Catalyst 9500 switch with forty 10G ports in the 10G-only ordering configuration. C9500 identifies the family, 40 identifies the fixed-port count, and X identifies the 10G interface class. The P suffix identifies this configuration rather than the separately named Network Essentials or Network Advantage variants.
Catalyst 9500 switches support CLI and WebUI management, with CLI access through serial or USB consoles and SSH or Telnet. SNMP and a separate Ethernet management interface support out-of-band operation. Cisco Catalyst Center and Meraki dashboard are additional management options when the specific switch, software release, and subscription entitlement support them.
C9500-40X-P reached end of sale on April 30, 2024, and its last date of Cisco support is April 30, 2029. The final supported software train is Cisco IOS XE 17.18; 17.18.1 is the last software maintenance release, followed by security support within that train. Eligible service renewals end July 29, 2028.
ORM Systems offers C9500-40X-P new sealed or certified refurbished, with up to a 3-year extended warranty for new units and up to 1 year for refurbished units. Returns cover 30 days in every condition; terms apply. Cisco's Enhanced Limited Lifetime Warranty is separate and subject to eligibility, with support ending April 30, 2029.
Catalyst 9500 licensing offers Cisco DNA Essentials or Advantage and Cisco Catalyst Software Subscription Essentials or Advantage, each with a minimum three-year term. Network Essentials and Network Advantage are perpetual network tiers. Quotes must distinguish included entitlements from subscription services and identify the receiving Smart Account; subscription expiration does not itself terminate the perpetual network license.
Forty fixed 10G SFP+ ports equip C9500-40X-P for fiber aggregation. The RJ-45 management and console connections are separate from those data interfaces and do not provide copper access switching. Optics selection must match the link medium, reach, and peer device, so transceivers and fiber cabling need their own order review.
C9500-40X-P accepts either C9500-NM-8X for eight additional 1/10G SFP/SFP+ interfaces or C9500-NM-2Q for two 40G QSFP+ interfaces. The base configuration does not include an uplink module. Module selection establishes the additional connectivity, while compatible transceivers or connection cables remain separate items to specify for the intended peer.
No, C9500-40X-P has two internal power-supply bays but ships with one PWR-C4-950WAC-R AC supply by default. A second compatible supply is optional rather than included redundancy. PWR-C4-950WDC-R is the supported DC alternative. Itemize supply quantity, input type, and regional power-cord requirements before confirming the order.
C9500-40X-P occupies 1U and uses C9500-ACC-KIT-19I= for standard rack mounting, with C9500-4PT-KIT= available for four-point installation. The chassis is 445 mm wide and 567 mm deep. Confirm rack support, depth, and airflow before selecting mounting positions; C9500-4PT-KIT= is required for NEBS installation.
No, C9500-40X-P uses five FAN-T4-R= fan modules with front-to-back airflow and N+1 cooling redundancy. The normal operating-temperature range is 0°C to 40°C. FAN-T4-R= supports online insertion and removal with a 120-second replacement interval, so cooling maintenance requires the replacement FAN-T4-R= to be ready before removal.
C9500-40X-2Q-E includes C9500-NM-2Q with two 40G uplink interfaces, while C9500-40X-P leaves uplink-module selection separate. Both ordering variants are discontinued. The bundle suits replacement of an existing C9500-NM-2Q configuration; the chassis configuration suits buyers specifying expansion independently when purchasing remaining stock or refurbished equipment.
C9500-48Y4C supports native 1/10/25G fiber interfaces, whereas the discontinued C9500-40X-P is a 10G-only configuration. C9500-48Y4C is the current replacement for migration planning. Buyers requiring native 25G connectivity should evaluate the replacement; buyers maintaining an existing 10G configuration may require the older chassis for like-for-like sparing.
