NIM-2T is a Cisco 2-Port Serial WAN Network Interface Card with two 8 Mbps Smart Serial synchronous serial ports for Catalyst 8300. Its edge over NIM-1T is the second serial port in the same single-wide NIM form factor. Catalyst 8200 and ISR 4000 also take it. Cisco Catalyst 8300 Network Interface Module buyers use it in the NIM slot on C8300-2N2S-4T2X, C8300-2N2S-6T, C8300-1N1S-4T2X and C8300-1N1S-6T. The ports run HDLC, PPP or Frame Relay over V.35, EIA-232, EIA-449, EIA-530, EIA-530A or X.21 cables. NIM-4T gives four serial ports where the host has enough serial density demand.

8 Mbps per port is the synchronous maximum speed, and DCE clock rates range from 1200 bps to 8000000 bps. Two 12-in-1 Smart Serial connectors take the matching DTE or DCE cable for each circuit. Serial protocols are EIA-232, EIA-449, EIA-530, EIA-530A, V.35 and X.21. Only synchronous serial interfaces, HDLC, PPP and Frame Relay are allowed; half duplex is not allowed. NIM-2T uses a single-wide NIM form factor with no slot restrictions. C8300-2N2S models have two NIM slots, C8300-1N1S models have one NIM slot, and Catalyst 8200 models have one NIM slot. The module measures 31.8 mm x 88.9 mm x 183.9 mm.
NIM-2T is available new sealed and certified refurbished. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested in a compatible host; recognized by the host is verified. NIM-2T is synchronous serial, not a T1/E1 multiflex trunk module. Use NIM-2MFT-T1/E1 for two T1/E1 voice or clear-channel data ports.

NIM-2T is the Cisco 2-Port Serial WAN Network Interface Card for the NIM slot. NIM is the Network Interface Module form factor, and 2T identifies the two serial WAN ports in the ordering description. It adds two Smart Serial synchronous serial interfaces to Catalyst 8300, Catalyst 8200 and ISR 4000 hosts.
NIM-2T fits Catalyst 8300, Catalyst 8200 and ISR 4000 hosts with a free NIM slot. Catalyst 8300 models are C8300-2N2S-4T2X, C8300-2N2S-6T, C8300-1N1S-4T2X and C8300-1N1S-6T. Catalyst 8200 models are C8200-1N-4T and C8200L-1N-4T. Match the Cisco IOS XE floor before ordering.
A Catalyst 8300 uses NIM-2T for two Smart Serial WAN ports at 8 Mbps per port. The same serial WAN group also has NIM-1T, NIM-4T and SM-X-1T3/E3. Choose the PID by serial port count, slot type and circuit type before the PO.
NIM-2T provides two Smart Serial synchronous serial ports rated at 8 Mbps per port. The ports use V.35, EIA-232, EIA-449, EIA-530, EIA-530A or X.21 signaling. Only synchronous serial operation is allowed, and the encapsulation choices are HDLC, PPP and Frame Relay.
NIM-2T uses Cisco Smart Serial cables matched to the circuit interface and DTE or DCE end. Cable PIDs include CAB-SS-V35MT, CAB-SS-V35FC, CAB-SS-232MT, CAB-SS-232FC, CAB-SS-449MT, CAB-SS-449FC, CAB-SS-X21MT, CAB-SS-X21FC, CAB-SS-530MT and CAB-SS-530AMT. Order one cable per active serial port.
A C8300-2N2S chassis takes two single-wide NIMs, and a C8300-1N1S chassis takes one. A Catalyst 8200 chassis takes one NIM. Cisco 4451-X takes three NIM-2T modules. Empty Catalyst 8300 NIM slots take C8300-NIM-BLANK, and empty Catalyst 8200 NIM slots take C8200-NIM-BLANK.
NIM-2T adds two synchronous serial WAN ports, which is the edge over the one-port NIM-1T. The module carries HDLC, PPP and Frame Relay traffic and has its own serial communication controllers. Anti-counterfeit protection and periodic system status information are also part of the serial NIM software behavior.
NIM-2T needs Cisco IOS XE 17.3.2 on Catalyst 8300. C8200-1N-4T needs Cisco IOS XE 17.4.1, and C8200L-1N-4T needs Cisco IOS XE 17.5.1. Cisco 4400 ISR hosts need Cisco IOS XE 3.12 or later with the IP Base feature set.
NIM-2T is the replacement PID for HWIC-2T and HWIC-2T= in the ISR G2 module migration path. The replacement changes the host requirement from an HWIC slot to a NIM slot. Confirm the new router family and the Smart Serial cable before ordering the NIM.
NIM-2T is the base Cisco ordering PID, and NIM-2T= is the spare form for the same two-port serial WAN NIM. The spare form does not change the ports, speed, connector or host slot. Use the exact PID required by the purchase order.
NIM-2T gives two 8 Mbps Smart Serial ports, while NIM-1T gives one 8 Mbps Smart Serial port. Both use the same single-wide NIM form factor and serial cable family. Choose NIM-2T when two synchronous serial circuits share one router slot.
NIM-4T gives four 8 Mbps Smart Serial ports, while NIM-2T gives two. Both are serial WAN NIMs for the same protocol set. Choose NIM-4T for higher serial port density where the host takes it, and choose NIM-2T for two-circuit builds.
Cisco has not announced an end-of-sale date for NIM-2T. NIM-2T serves Catalyst 8300, Catalyst 8200 and ISR 4000 hosts with NIM slots. Older HWIC-2T and HWIC-2T= parts moved to NIM-2T in the ISR G2 module migration path.
