C-NIM-8T is a Network Interface Module, Cisco 8-port 10M/100M/1G LAN/WAN with IEEE 802.1AE MACsec, with eight RJ-45 copper ports for Catalyst 8300 in a NIM slot. Its edge over C-NIM-4X is Catalyst 8200 and Catalyst 8200L fit with eight copper ports. Each host takes one LAN/WAN module per chassis. A Catalyst 8300 Network Interface Module build uses it in the native NIM slot, not the C-SM-NIM-ADPT carrier. The last two ports connect as native Layer 3 WAN ports when changed from their default Layer 2 switch mode. C-NIM-8M is the 2.5G and UPOE+ sibling for buyers who need 90W powered ports.

1 Gbps per port is the ceiling, with 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX and 1000BASE-T Ethernet on the RJ-45 interfaces. 10G backplane connection is the module-to-host path, and Layer 2 forwarding is line-rate on each port. Ports 6 and 7 change to routed Layer 3 WAN mode and take WAN MACsec; ports 0 to 5 stay Layer 2. C-NIM-8T carries IEEE 802.1AE MACsec, Auto-MDIX, 1024 VLANs, 4095 VLAN IDs, eight QoS queues per port, 8kB Jumbo Frames and 100 secure MAC addresses. Cisco IOS XE Dublin 17.11.1a or later is the install floor.

A buyer with a Catalyst 8300 branch router needs eight copper switch ports without changing the chassis. The host must have a free native NIM slot, and the build must keep to one LAN/WAN module per chassis before the PO.
A buyer needs two routed copper WAN handoffs and six Layer 2 copper ports on a Catalyst 8200 or Catalyst 8300. Ports 6 and 7 carry the Layer 3 role, so the far end must match 10M, 100M or 1G Ethernet.
A buyer needs IEEE 802.1AE MACsec on switch-to-switch LAN/WAN links from a Catalyst 8000 edge platform. The design must use the supported host models, a native NIM slot and Cisco IOS XE Dublin 17.11.1a or later.
10G fiber uplinks
C-NIM-8T tops out at 1G RJ-45 and does not provide SFP/SFP+ cages. C-NIM-4X gives four 1G/10G SFP/SFP+ ports for Catalyst 8300.
2.5G PoE copper
C-NIM-8T stops at 1G and has no PoE. C-NIM-8M gives eight 100M/1G/2.5G RJ-45 ports and 90W UPOE+ on ports 4 to 7.
Carrier-adapter installation
C-NIM-8T is not supported in C-SM-NIM-ADPT. The host must have a native NIM slot, so a filled Catalyst 8200 slot blocks the module.

C-NIM-8T is the Cisco 8-port 10M/100M/1G LAN/WAN with IEEE 802.1AE MACsec. It is a Network Interface Module with eight RJ-45 copper ports for Catalyst 8300, Catalyst 8200 and Catalyst 8200L hosts. C-NIM marks Catalyst NIM; 8T marks eight twisted-pair copper ports.
C-NIM-8T fits C8300-2N2S-4T2X, C8300-2N2S-6T, C8300-1N1S-4T2X, C8300-1N1S-6T, C8200-1N-4T and C8200L-1N-4T in a native NIM slot. It does not fit C-SM-NIM-ADPT. C8200L takes it with a 1G uplink.
A Catalyst 8300 uses C-NIM-8T, C-NIM-4X, C-NIM-8M, C-NIM-1X, C-NIM-1M and C-NIM-2T as C-NIM Ethernet modules. C-NIM-8T is the eight-port RJ-45 LAN/WAN switch NIM. The 2RU chassis have two NIM slots and the 1RU chassis has one.
C-NIM-8T has eight RJ-45 copper Ethernet ports rated for 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX and 1000BASE-T. The default role is Layer 2 switching. Ports 6 and 7 change to native Layer 3 WAN mode with the no switchport command; ports 0 to 5 stay Layer 2.
One C-NIM-8T fits as the LAN/WAN module in a Catalyst 8300, Catalyst 8200 or Catalyst 8200L chassis. C8300-2N2S-4T2X and C8300-2N2S-6T have two NIM slots. C8300-1N1S-4T2X, C8300-1N1S-6T, C8200-1N-4T and C8200L-1N-4T have one NIM slot.
C-NIM-8T adds Catalyst 8200 and Catalyst 8200L fit that the C-NIM-4X does not have, plus IEEE 802.1AE MACsec and configurable Layer 3 operation on ports 6 and 7. The switching feature set carries Auto-MDIX, 802.1X, IGMP Snooping, VTP and eight QoS queues per port.
C-NIM-8T requires Cisco IOS XE Dublin 17.11.1a or later for installation. The module software line for Catalyst 8200 and Catalyst 8300 is Cisco IOS XE 17.11.1 Universal Image, and Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN Manager is vmanage-20.11 for this module.
C-NIM-8T carries IEEE 802.1AE MACsec, but WAN MACsec is only on the last two flex ports. LAN switch-to-host MACsec is not supported. The 1G WAN port scale is 8 peers per port, so count peers before assigning ports 6 and 7.
C-NIM-8T= is the spare order form of C-NIM-8T. The hardware role is the same 8-port 10M/100M/1G RJ-45 LAN/WAN Network Interface Module with IEEE 802.1AE MACsec. Use the spare form when the PO needs a standalone replacement module.
C-NIM-8M raises the copper speed to 2.5G and adds 90W UPOE+ on ports 4 to 7. C-NIM-8T keeps eight RJ-45 ports at 10M/100M/1G and no PoE. C-NIM-8T suits nonpowered 1G copper links; C-NIM-8M suits 2.5G or powered endpoints.
C-NIM-8T fits Catalyst 8200 and Catalyst 8200L and gives eight RJ-45 copper ports at 10M/100M/1G. C-NIM-4X fits Catalyst 8300 only and gives four SFP/SFP+ ports at 1G/10G. Choose by host first, then connector and speed.
Cisco has not announced an end-of-sale date for C-NIM-8T. Catalyst 8300 1RU host sales end 31 January 2027, and Catalyst 8300 2RU plus Catalyst 8200 host sales end 31 July 2027.
