Fanless Access Connectivity With Copper or Fiber Uplinks

SRW2008-K9 is a fanless, managed Gigabit desktop switch with eight dedicated copper access ports and two fixed Gigabit combo uplinks. Each combo connection provides a copper port and an SFP slot, with only one connection active at a time. The non-PoE configuration connects separately powered computers, printers, and other Ethernet equipment without allocating an endpoint power budget. Within the Cisco 300 Series, the SG300-10 combines managed switching with static IPv4 routing rather than dynamic routing. Its desktop enclosure distinguishes it from full-width wiring-closet equipment. The discontinued SRW2008P-K9 is the closest powered sibling, adding a shared 62W PoE budget. For an existing installation, the choice between these configurations depends on whether endpoint power comes from the switch or separate supplies.

Technical Details

20 Gbps switching capacity supports simultaneous forwarding across the available connections, while 14.88 Mpps forwarding is specified for 64-byte packets. Static IPv4 routing supports communication between configured IP networks, with a maximum of 512 static routes; dynamic routing is not provided. SRW2008-K9 uses 128 MB of memory and 16 MB of flash for its embedded software and configuration storage. A 16384-entry MAC table accommodates learned Ethernet addresses, and an aggregate 8 Mb packet buffer is shared across the ports. STP/RSTP/MSTP provide spanning-tree operation, while LACP supports link aggregation. Management includes an HTTP/HTTPS web interface, SSH access, and full or menu-based CLI operation. Cable-length detection adjusts signaling power for shorter copper connections, and energy detection reduces port power when links are down. These functions remain distinct from endpoint power delivery: the Gigabit desktop switch does not supply PoE.

Ordering

Order SRW2008-K9 new sealed or certified refurbished, and specify the regional power arrangement and required optics on the PO. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on and POST, every port linking at rated speed, clean boot, optics bay recognition, and the supplied adapter delivering rated output; firmware is verified and configurations are wiped to factory default. ORM's new-unit warranty is up to a 3-year extended warranty, certified refurbished coverage is up to 1 year, and returns are available for 30 days on every condition; terms apply. For enterprise and volume orders, PO is accepted, government buyers receive Net-30, and RMA includes advance replacement across UK, EU, US, and MEA operations.

Buying Notes

Buying NotesKey Specs

Migration ordering requires care

Replacement planning should target C1300-8T-E-2G rather than the discontinued SG350-10-K9-NA or CBS350-8T-E-2G-NA intermediate models. SRW2008-K9 has already passed its final Cisco support milestone.

Specify optics by part number

Fiber purchasing should specify a transceiver by PID: MGBSX1 supports multimode fiber, while MGBLX1 supports single-mode fiber. Match the selected optic to both ends before finalizing the purchase order.

Best For

Local Routing Requirements

When a small office needs communication between separate IP networks without sending every local flow through an upstream router, the SG300-10 supports as many as 128 IP interfaces. Identify the networks that require local gateways, then specify the intended interface assignments and routed operating configuration before issuing the purchase order.

Configuration Validation Labs

When staging a configuration before a production change, the SG300-10 supports jumbo frames of 9216 bytes for testing larger Ethernet frames. Endpoint and intervening-link settings still need to match the intended test. Include the required patching and confirm the complete test-path frame size before finalizing the equipment order.

Not Suitable If

Power for connected phones or access points

SRW2008-K9 does not supply endpoint power. C1300-8P-E-2G is a current eight-port Gigabit PoE alternative with two Gigabit combo uplinks and an external power supply.

Uplinks faster than Gigabit Ethernet

The fixed combo connections are limited to Gigabit Ethernet. Installing a faster transceiver does not create a higher-speed uplink, and the chassis has no removable uplink-card architecture.

Current Cisco support for new deployments

Cisco support for SRW2008-K9 ended August 31, 2023. C1300-8T-E-2G is the current migration endpoint after the discontinued SG350-10-K9-NA and CBS350-8T-E-2G-NA intermediate models.

Questions & Answers

What does the Cisco SRW2008-K9 part number identify?

SRW2008-K9 identifies the Cisco SG300-10, a managed switch with eight dedicated Gigabit copper ports and two Gigabit combo connections. The complete identifier selects this non-PoE configuration. Each combo connection offers copper or SFP connectivity, but its two physical interfaces cannot operate simultaneously.

How is SRW2008-K9 managed?

SRW2008-K9 supports an HTTP/HTTPS web interface, full or menu-based CLI, and SSH access for local management. Additional functions include a Telnet client, single-IP management, and discovery through Cisco Small Business FindIT Network. Cisco OnPlus integration belongs to the switch's legacy cloud-management feature set.

Is SRW2008-K9 discontinued?

SRW2008-K9 is discontinued: end of sale was August 2, 2018, and Cisco support ended August 31, 2023. The original replacement, SG350-10-K9-NA, is also discontinued. Its migration path continues through the discontinued CBS350-8T-E-2G-NA to the current C1300-8T-E-2G, rather than stopping at the first replacement.

Which conditions and warranties does ORM Systems offer for SRW2008-K9?

ORM Systems offers SRW2008-K9 new sealed with up to a 3-year extended warranty or certified refurbished with up to 1 year. Returns are available for 30 days on every condition; terms apply. Cisco's original limited lifetime hardware warranty and service coverage ended August 31, 2023.

Does SRW2008-K9 provide PoE for connected devices?

SRW2008-K9 does not provide PoE on its access ports or combo connections. Connected phones, cameras, and access points therefore need their own power arrangements. Confirm each endpoint's power source before ordering, rather than assuming that a managed Gigabit switch also supplies endpoint power.

Which fiber transceivers can the SG300-10 use?

The SG300-10 supports MGBSX1 for Gigabit multimode fiber and MGBLX1 for Gigabit single-mode fiber. These transceivers use the SFP side of the combo connections. Specify the required optical connection by part number, and match the fiber type and remote-end interface before placing the order.

Can the SG300-10 route traffic between VLANs?

The SG300-10 supports static IPv4 routing between configured networks, with a maximum of 512 static routes and 128 IP interfaces. Routed operation must be configured for that role. The routing capability is static rather than dynamic, so gateway and route requirements should be established before deployment.

Is the SG300-10 a fanless desktop switch?

The SG300-10 is a fanless desktop switch with a chassis width of 279.4 mm, depth of 170 mm, and height of 44.45 mm. Its operating temperature range is 0°C to 40°C. Allow for cabling, adapter placement, and ventilation when checking the intended installation space.

What is the difference between SRW2008-K9 and SRW2008P-K9?

SRW2008P-K9 adds eight PoE access ports sharing a 62W budget, while SRW2008-K9 supplies no endpoint power. Both configurations retain two Gigabit combo connections and belong to the discontinued 300 family. The non-PoE model matches separately powered endpoints; the powered sibling matches existing installations using switch-delivered power.

What is the difference between SRW2008-K9 and SRW2016-K9?

SRW2016-K9 provides 18 dedicated Gigabit copper access ports, compared with eight on SRW2008-K9; both have two additional Gigabit combo connections. Both models are discontinued. The smaller configuration matches a limited endpoint count, while the higher-density model matches an existing installation requiring more dedicated copper connections.

What is the difference between SRW2008-K9 and C1300-8T-E-2G?

C1300-8T-E-2G is the current migration endpoint, whereas SRW2008-K9 passed its final Cisco support date on August 31, 2023. The intervening SG350 and CBS350 replacements are discontinued. The older model addresses an existing hardware requirement; the current replacement addresses a purchase that must move beyond the retired product line.

Which older switches does SRW2008-K9 replace?

SRW2008-K9 replaces SRW208-K9-AU and SRW208G-K9-JP in their regional migration paths. Those Fast Ethernet models reached end of sale on May 31, 2017; their replacement is the Gigabit SG300-10. Match the regional ordering suffix and power adapter to the destination before placing an order.
