2 x 40-Gbps FCoE QSFP ports give the VIC 1387 its 40G per-port data rate. PCIe 3.0 x8 host connectivity gives 64 Gbps to the server. Over 256 virtual interfaces can present NICs or HBAs to the host, with about 8 reserved internally and further limits from the OS or hypervisor. 40-Gbps line-rate per port is bounded by PCIe 3.0, with 40-Gbps single-port bidirectional and 45-Gbps dual-port bidirectional throughput. UCSC-MLOM-C40Q-03 uses a Cisco UCS custom ASIC with VXLAN, NVGRE, RDMA, usNIC, VM-FEX, SR-IOV, DPDK, NetFlow and iSCSI boot. Power is 22W with SR4 optics or 25W with 40-Gbps BiDi optics. Breakout from VIC 1387 works to standalone switches and not to Fabric Interconnects.

A failed C220 M5 or C240 M5 rack server mLOM card leaves the 40G QSFP+ path out of service. The replacement must be UCSC-MLOM-C40Q-03 for the Cisco VIC 1387 mLOM x8 position; before the PO, confirm the chassis generation and the mLOM slot in inventory.
A C3160 expansion or spare build can use two VIC 1387 mLOM adapters. C220 M4/M5, C240 M4/M5, C460 M4 and C480 M5 hosts take one card. Before the PO, specify each mLOM position and the Cisco QSFP+ media for every cabled port.
A Fabric Interconnect attach path needs matching 40G QSFP+ optics, direct-attach cables or the CVR-QSFP-SFP10G QSA path. Breakout cables are for standalone switch links and not for Fabric Interconnects. Before the PO, match the far-end port mode and the cable length.
