Managed Copper Access With Flexible Fiber Connections

SG500-52-K9-NA is a managed, stackable Gigabit Ethernet switch for small-business access networks, combining 48 non-PoE copper access ports with four fixed Gigabit uplinks. Two uplinks share copper and SFP interfaces, while two additional SFP connections complete the uplink set; each shared connection activates one medium at a time. This Rack-Mount 1U member of the Cisco 500 Series connects independently powered computers, printers and other Ethernet endpoints without supplying power over their network cables. Layer 2+ functionality supports local traffic handling between workgroups. The discontinued SG500-52P-K9 differs by adding PoE+ for powered endpoints. A fixed uplink design establishes the connection layout at purchase rather than depending on a separately installed uplink card, so uplink expansion is not available through a removable network module.

SG500-52-K9-NA price for new stock is $2,307.53. SG500-52-K9-NA refurb price is $1,416.45. SG500-52-K9-NA is in stock and available for next-day dispatch. (terms applied)

Technical Details

120 Gbps switching capacity supports nonblocking forwarding across the available interfaces. 77.38 Mpps forwarding at 64-byte packet size establishes the packet-processing ceiling for traffic planning. SG500-52-K9-NA carries 256 MB of DRAM and 32 MB of flash for operating software and configuration. A 16384-entry MAC table accommodates learned Ethernet addresses, while two dynamically shared 8 Mb packet-buffer allocations handle queued traffic. STP, RSTP and MSTP provide loop control, and SSH enables encrypted administrative sessions. Cisco SG500-52-K9 supports static IPv4 and IPv6 routing rather than the RIP v2 and VRRP functions reserved for 500X models. 2048 IPv4 static routes provide the routing scale for subnet planning. 47W worst-case consumption supplies the electrical allowance for cabinet power sizing. Two fixed-speed fans require ventilation, and operation is limited to 0°C to 40°C. The internal universal supply accepts 100-240V AC for connection to the site's AC distribution.

Ordering

Specify SG500-52-K9-NA in new sealed or certified refurbished condition, and confirm the required quantity on the PO. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested, including rated-speed port links and optics bay recognition; firmware is verified and configurations are wiped to factory default. ORM warranty options are up to a 3-year extended warranty for new units and up to 1 year for certified refurbished units, with 30-day returns on every condition, terms apply; Cisco's original limited lifetime coverage ended April 30, 2023. Enterprise and volume orders can use accepted POs, government Net-30 and RMA with advance replacement, with regional stock and RMA coverage in the UK, EU, US and MEA.

Buying Notes

Buying NotesKey Specs

Legacy purchase or migration

SG500-52-K9-NA is a legacy purchase: end of sale was April 12, 2018. Specify C1300-48T-4X instead when the order requires a current migration rather than like-for-like legacy hardware.

Stack cables need sizing

SG500-52-K9-NA stack expansion needs a cable-length plan: SFP-H10GB-CU1M, SFP-H10GB-CU3M and SFP-H10GB-CU5M operate at 5G on this model. Specify ring or chain connections before ordering the required cables.

Fiber optics ordered separately

SG500-52-K9-NA fiber connections require compatible optics such as MGBSX1 for multimode fiber or MGBLX1 for single-mode fiber; include matching modules on the PO rather than assuming the switch includes them.

Best For

Link Aggregation Planning

When several connections must be grouped between existing devices, SG500-52-K9-NA supports 32 link-aggregation groups, with eight active ports per group and 16 candidate ports for dynamic membership. Treat aggregation membership as part of the connection schedule and specify the participating ports before the PO.

Branch Configuration Rollout

When a branch rollout separates staff, guest and voice traffic, SG500-52-K9-NA supports 4096 simultaneous VLANs and automatic voice-VLAN assignment. Establish the VLAN inventory and voice policy before equipment is staged, including which connections carry tagged traffic, then specify the required configuration baseline with the order.

Replacement Lab Staging

When a replacement must be evaluated before production use, SG500-52-K9-NA provides dual software images and port mirroring for image staging and traffic inspection. Mirroring can copy eight source ports to one destination port. Confirm analyzer attachment, image selection and the configuration baseline before ordering the lab unit.

Not Suitable If

10G uplinks to distribution

SG500-52-K9-NA provides Gigabit Ethernet uplinks, not 10G uplinks. C1300-48T-4X retains 48 Gigabit access ports and provides four 10G SFP+ uplinks for a current migration.

Power delivery to connected endpoints

SG500-52-K9-NA does not supply PoE, so connected endpoints need separate power. C1300-48P-4X provides powered Gigabit access and also changes the uplinks to four 10G SFP+ connections.

Current Cisco service coverage

SG500-52-K9-NA passed its last support date on April 30, 2023, so Cisco service has ended. C1300-48T-4X is the current migration option with four 10G uplinks.

Questions & Answers

What does the SG500-52-K9-NA part number mean?

SG500-52-K9-NA identifies a Gigabit 500 Series switch with 52 ports, high encryption and an Americas/Taiwan power-plug suffix. S means switch, G means Gigabit, 500 identifies the series, 52 counts 48 access ports plus four uplinks, K9 denotes high encryption, and NA selects the regional power-plug configuration.

How is SG500-52-K9-NA managed?

SG500-52-K9-NA supports an HTTP/HTTPS web interface, full and menu-based Textview CLI, SSH, Telnet, serial-console access and SNMP versions 1, 2c and 3. FindIT assists device discovery, while Cisco OnPlus provides a cloud-service path. The browser interface includes a system dashboard, maintenance tools and monitoring; the CLI supports scripting.

Is SG500-52-K9-NA end of life?

SG500-52-K9-NA is retired: end of sale was April 12, 2018, and Cisco support ended April 30, 2023. The original migration direction was the now-discontinued 550X family. The current forward migration option is C1300-48T-4X, reached through the also-discontinued Cisco Business 350 generation.

What condition and warranty options does ORM Systems offer for SG500-52-K9-NA?

ORM Systems offers SG500-52-K9-NA new sealed or certified refurbished, with up to a 3-year extended warranty on new units and up to 1 year on refurbished units. Returns are available for 30 days on every condition; terms apply. Cisco's original limited lifetime warranty and service ended April 30, 2023.

Can SG500-52-K9-NA join a hardware stack?

Yes, SG500-52-K9-NA supports hardware stacking with eight members managed as a single system. Compatible stacks can mix SF500, SG500 and SG500X members. SFP-H10GB-CU1M, SFP-H10GB-CU3M and SFP-H10GB-CU5M provide copper stack connections at 5G on this model; select cable length and ring or chain topology before ordering.

Which routing features does SG500-52-K9-NA support?

SG500-52-K9-NA supports static IPv4 and IPv6 routing, with 2048 static routes for each address family, 256 IPv4 interfaces and 128 IPv6 interfaces. RIP v2 and VRRP belong to the 500X models rather than this switch. Treat this model as a static-routing option, not a dynamic-routing replacement.

Does SG500-52-K9-NA provide PoE for phones or cameras?

No, SG500-52-K9-NA provides data connectivity without PoE output on its access ports. Connected phones, cameras and wireless access points therefore need independent power. Confirm endpoint power arrangements before selecting this non-PoE model; changing software or enabling a management feature does not add powered-port hardware.

How many uplinks does the SG500-52 provide?

The SG500-52 provides four fixed Gigabit uplinks: two shared RJ-45/SFP connections plus two SFP connections that can also serve 5G stacking. Each shared connection activates either copper or fiber, not both simultaneously. These are not 10G Ethernet uplinks, and the chassis does not accept an uplink expansion card.

Which fiber modules work with the SG500-52?

The SG500-52 accepts MGBSX1 for Gigabit multimode fiber and MGBLX1 for Gigabit single-mode fiber. MGBSX1 supports links to 500 m, while MGBLX1 supports links to 10 km. Select the module against the installed fiber type and required reach, and include the modules separately on the PO.

What power and cooling does the SG500-52 require?

The SG500-52 uses an internal universal supply accepting 100-240V AC and consumes 47W in its worst-case configuration. Two fans provide active cooling, with no fan-speed control. The operating range is 0°C to 40°C, so cabinet ventilation and site power must match those limits.

What is the difference between SG500-52-K9-NA and SG500-52P-K9?

SG500-52P-K9 supplies PoE+ through 48 access ports with a shared 375W budget, whereas SG500-52-K9-NA supplies no endpoint power. Both are discontinued 500 Series models. The non-PoE version suits independently powered endpoints; the PoE+ version suits legacy installations that must power devices through Ethernet.

What is the difference between SG500-52-K9-NA and SG500-28-K9?

SG500-52-K9-NA has 48 Gigabit access ports, while SG500-28-K9 has 24; both retain four Gigabit uplinks. Both models are discontinued members of the 500 Series. The larger model fits an existing high-density footprint, while the smaller model matches legacy sites that need fewer copper connections.

What is the difference between SG500-52-K9-NA and C1300-48T-4X?

C1300-48T-4X provides four 10G SFP+ uplinks, whereas SG500-52-K9-NA provides four Gigabit uplinks. Both offer 48 Gigabit access ports without endpoint power. The discontinued SG500 model suits like-for-like legacy replacement; C1300-48T-4X is the current migration choice when the purchase requires faster uplinks rather than the original connection layout.
