8.8 Gbps switching capacity and 6.55 Mpps forwarding at 64-byte packet sizes define the forwarding envelope for traffic sizing. CGS-2520-24TC carries 256 MB of DRAM and 1 GB of SD flash, with 128 MB enabled for software and configuration storage. An 8000-entry MAC table sets the address-learning scale. The CGS 2520 supports 1005 simultaneous VLANs and 128 spanning-tree instances for network segmentation. RSTP and MSTP control redundant Layer 2 paths, while LACP groups compatible links into an aggregate. DHCP snooping, Dynamic ARP Inspection, and IP source guard restrict address-spoofing paths at the access edge. Port-based access control lists provide another point for applying traffic policy. Configurable egress queues and strict priority queuing distinguish operational traffic from competing flows. When a substation replacement must retain an established configuration, Connected Grid Swap Drive uses removable flash to transfer the switch setup without manual reconfiguration. Include MEM-SD-1GB-RGD= in the spare-parts review, and specify how the existing configuration and software image will be retained before releasing the purchase order.
When utility sites present different supply voltages, PWR-RGD-LOW-DC and PWR-RGD-AC-DC provide low-voltage DC and high-voltage AC or DC choices. The chassis accepts mixed supply types. Standardize the required supply PID, quantity, input termination, and source arrangement for each site before issuing the purchase order.
When a replacement is staged on a bench before shipment, simultaneous console connections can change which terminal remains active: USB takes priority over the RJ-45 console. Specify CAB-CONSOLE-USB= or CAB-CONSOLE-RJ45= for the staging station, and verify the intended console connection before the unit is released against the purchase order.
Gigabit speeds on every access port
The 24 copper access ports stop at 100 Mbps; only the two dual-purpose uplinks reach 1 Gbps, so this model cannot serve an all-Gigabit access requirement.
PoE power for connected endpoints
CGS-2520-24TC supplies no PoE. IE-9320-24P4S-E provides 24 PoE+ downlinks and four Gigabit uplinks and is the current destination beyond the discontinued IE-4010-4S24P replacement.
Routing without a software upgrade
LAN Base does not include OSPF, EIGRP, or BGPv4 routing. CGS-2520-24TC requires the IP Services upgrade S252ILK9-12253EX= when those routing protocols are required.
Continued Cisco security software remedies
Planned vulnerability/security support ended January 10, 2025. IE-9320-24P4S-E is the current migration destination, reached through the discontinued IE-4010-4S24P intermediate replacement rather than another CGS 2520 model.
