800 Gbps switching capacity sets the aggregate bandwidth ceiling, while 250 Mpps forwarding supports IPv4 routing and Layer 2 traffic. WS-C4500X-32SFP+ carries 4 GB of memory and 32 MB of shared packet buffering, so burst planning must account for a shared pool. OSPF for Routed Access permits 1000 dynamically learned routes under IP Base; BGP and IS-IS are not included. The hardware's 256K IPv4 forwarding-entry capacity remains distinct from that licensed OSPF limit.

An installed estate containing ME-4924-10GE or WS-C4928-10GE may already have standardized on this replacement. Both older models ended sale February 28, 2013. A replacement purchase needs an interface-by-interface review rather than assuming existing optics transfer directly; record current link requirements and software entitlements before the PO.
A planned VSS extension requires matching switch models rather than a mixed-model pair. Staging on Cisco IOS XE 3.8.xE requires ROMMON 15.0(1r)SG11; operating-system and boot-firmware versions are separate checks. Specify the same chassis model and confirm both firmware versions before releasing the pair for installation.

The fixed interfaces stop at 10 Gigabit Ethernet. C9500-48Y4C provides 48 ports at 1/10/25G and four 40/100G ports, so the current replacement also increases port density.
BGP under the included license
The included IP Base license excludes BGP and IS-IS. Enhanced routing requires Enterprise Services, so a valid upgraded entitlement must be confirmed before using this configuration for those protocols.
PoE delivery to connected endpoints
The SFP+ interfaces do not supply PoE, and the chassis has no powered RJ-45 access ports. Connected endpoints cannot receive operating power through these fiber interfaces.

WS-C4500X-32SFP+ identifies a Catalyst 4500-X configuration with 32 SFP+ interfaces, 10 Gigabit Ethernet operation and IP Base. WS-C4500X identifies the switch family, 32 indicates the fixed port count, and SFP+ identifies the interface format. This configuration has front-to-back airflow and ships without a power supply.
WS-C4500X-32SFP+ supports CLI management over console, SSH version 2 or Telnet, plus a web-based configuration tool, SNMP and XML-PI. Cisco IOS XE 3.11.3aE and later enable SSH by default and disable Telnet by default. Confirm the installed image and remote-access settings before staging.
WS-C4500X-32SFP+ is discontinued, and Cisco hardware support ended October 31, 2025. End of sale occurred October 30, 2020, and vulnerability/security support also ended October 31, 2025. WS-C4500X-32SFP+ has 32 fixed fiber interfaces, while WS-C4500X-16SFP+ has 16. Both models are discontinued, and the 16-port version is not the current migration destination. For like-for-like sparing, the 32-port model matches denser existing aggregation configurations, while the 16-port model serves lower-density installed configurations with fewer fixed connections.
WS-C4500X-32SFP+ includes IP Base, whereas WS-C4500X-40X-ES includes Enterprise Services.
