The chassis occupies 14RU, so the spare location must accommodate the original enclosure rather than a fixed-switch footprint. Before issuing the PO, confirm the exact chassis identity, receiving rack space, and component transfer inventory.
When a chassis replacement must retain powered endpoints, the power plan includes an 830W maximum PoE allocation per line-card slot. That ceiling is separate from the complete system's available power. Before issuing the PO, enumerate powered line cards, endpoint loads, and the intended power-supply configuration, then check each slot's allocation.

The order includes the enclosure and cooling assembly, while a power supply and operational switching components must be specified separately.
A populated WS-C4510R system is managed through its installed supervisor using CLI and Telnet, with SNMPv1 and SNMPv2c monitoring and CiscoWorks LAN Management Solution or CiscoView management. The chassis alone contains no operational management image. Specify the supervisor and software configuration separately when assembling the complete purchase order.
WS-C4510R is discontinued: Cisco ended sales on July 31, 2010, and manufacturer support on July 31, 2015. Its original replacement, WS-C4510R-E, and the later WS-C4510R+E are also discontinued. WS-C4510R supports WS-X4516 Supervisor Engine V and WS-X4516-10GE Supervisor Engine V-10GE. Supervisor selection changes expansion limits: WS-X4516 supports a restricted line-card subset in slot 10, while WS-X4516-10GE permits the full supported range there. Match the supervisor to the intended card population rather than assuming every slot accepts every card.
A fully populated Catalyst 4510R requires PWR-C45-1400AC, PWR-C45-2800ACV, or PWR-C45-4200ACV when using the supported AC supply options. PWR-C45-1000AC and PWR-C45-1300ACV can be installed but require power management. Supply selection therefore follows the complete component load and endpoint-power requirements, not the chassis part number alone.
A populated WS-C4510R can supply IEEE 802.3af PoE when equipped with compatible powered line cards and a PoE-capable power supply. The bare chassis has no powered access ports. PWR-C45-2800ACV and PWR-C45-4200ACV support integrated PoE; size the complete configuration before assuming all connected endpoints can receive their requested power.
The Catalyst 4510R was a migration option for WS-P4603-2PSU and WS-X4608 auxiliary PoE hardware, not a direct component-for-component substitute. Those older accessories ended sales on February 1, 2006. Migration required a chassis-and-power configuration rather than exchanging an external power-shelf component for the bare chassis alone.
WS-C4510R has ten chassis slots and eight line-card slots, while WS-C4507R has seven chassis slots and five line-card slots. Both support redundant supervisors and both are discontinued. WS-C4510R matches legacy installations requiring the larger card population; WS-C4507R matches the smaller existing chassis arrangement with five line-card positions.
WS-C4510R belongs to the discontinued Catalyst 4500 family, while C9410R is the Catalyst 9400 ten-slot migration target.
