WS-C4507R is a seven-slot modular access-switch chassis with two supervisor positions and five switching-module slots, not a fixed-port switch. The chassis has no built-in access or uplink interfaces; installed modules determine Ethernet speed, endpoint power, and Layer 2 or Layer 3 operation. The Cisco Catalyst 4500 architecture places forwarding and management on the supervisor, so this chassis-only PID does not select a software tier or routing package. A WS-X4597= cooling assembly is included, while power supplies, supervisors, and line cards require separate configuration. The discontinued WS-C4506 lacks redundant-supervisor capability; this chassis provides a second supervisor position for a redundant configuration.

60 Gbps of full-duplex backplane bandwidth connects the chassis switching resources; packet forwarding is performed by the installed supervisor. Console/Telnet access and SNMP provide configuration and monitoring through that supervisor, which also reports interface and environmental status. WS-X4248-RJ45V adds 48 Fast Ethernet PoE interfaces when installed, while WS-X4224-RJ45V provides 24 Fast Ethernet PoE interfaces; either choice requires endpoint-power sizing alongside the supply selection. WS-C4507R uses right-to-left chassis airflow, while power-supply airflow runs front to back, so cabinet layout must preserve both paths. Unused switching-module openings require C4K-SLOT-CVR covers to maintain cooling airflow. The Catalyst 4507R enclosure distributes 12V DC to modules and fans and 3.3V DC to backplane components. Optional internal power redundancy requires separately selected supplies rather than being included with the bare chassis.
Specify WS-C4507R in New sealed or Certified refurbished condition, and identify whether the purchase order covers the chassis alone or separately quoted components. Refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested, including module bay recognition and fan status checks. ORM Systems provides new units with up to a 3-year extended warranty, certified refurbished units with up to 1 year, and 30-day returns on every condition, terms apply; Cisco hardware warranty and service ended July 31, 2015. Submit quantities and the required condition for enterprise or volume orders: PO accepted, Net-30 for government, and RMA with advance replacement.

When arranging a chassis swap in a live installation, the supervisor arrangement determines the change procedure. Removing the only supervisor stops forwarding; with redundant supervisors, removing the active engine makes the standby active. Confirm the installed supervisor configuration and specify the replacement and staging sequence before issuing the PO.
When staging a single-supervisor configuration with WS-X45-SUP6-E or WS-X45-SUP6L-E, the unused supervisor slot requires C4K-SLOT-CVR-E instead of C4K-SLOT-CVR. The ordinary faceplate does not direct enough cooling air for that configuration. Identify the installed supervisor and specify C4K-SLOT-CVR-E in the staging bill of materials before releasing the PO.
Active Cisco hardware service coverage
WS-C4507R passed its last date of support on July 31, 2015. Specify the current C9407R migration chassis instead when the purchase requires a current-generation replacement.
An operational switch without additional components
WS-C4507R is an unpopulated chassis rather than a complete switch. Network operation requires a compatible supervisor, switching modules, and power supplies; a chassis-only purchase cannot provide access connectivity.

WS-C4507R identifies Cisco's Catalyst 4500 seven-slot chassis with redundant-supervisor capability. WS-C is the product prefix, 4507 identifies the seven-slot Catalyst 4500 chassis, and R indicates supervisor redundancy. The unsuffixed PID is a chassis order, not a preconfigured access-port or software-license bundle.
WS-C4507R is managed through a separately installed supervisor using the console/Telnet interface and SNMP. The supervisor hosts the management processor and software, so the bare chassis has no independent configuration interface. Specify the supervisor and software configuration with any complete system order.
WS-C4507R is discontinued, with an end-of-sale date of July 31, 2010 and a last date of support of July 31, 2015. The original replacement, WS-C4507R-E, is also discontinued. New migration planning should follow the replacement chain to C9407R rather than stop at another retired chassis.
ORM Systems offers WS-C4507R in New sealed and Certified refurbished condition, with up to a 3-year extended warranty for new units and up to 1 year for certified refurbished units. Returns are available for 30 days in either condition; terms apply. Cisco's hardware warranty and service ended July 31, 2015, so ORM coverage is separate.
WS-C4507R includes the seven-slot chassis and its WS-X4597= fan assembly, but no power supply. Supervisor engines and switching modules are separate selections, so the chassis alone cannot establish Ethernet links. Specify a complete component list when the order must deliver an operational switching system.
WS-C4507R provides optional 1+1 internal power redundancy when two compatible supplies are installed. The unpopulated chassis has two power-supply bays rather than factory-installed redundant supplies. Confirm facility inputs and size the configuration for the installed modules before selecting the required power-supply PIDs.
The Catalyst 4507R chassis occupies 11 rack units and measures 487.4 mm high, 439.7 mm wide, and 317 mm deep. Maximum populated weight is 45.4 kg. Confirm rack clearance, lifting arrangements, and access to both side ventilation openings before specifying the installation location.
WS-C4507R was a migration chassis option for the discontinued WS-C4003-S1 and WS-C4003-S1-DC systems. Those migrations also required a compatible supervisor and an AC or DC supply, rather than an empty-chassis substitution alone. The replacement relationship is historical; current migration planning should continue to C9407R.
WS-C4507R supports redundant supervisors, while WS-C4506 does not. Both models are discontinued, and the difference matters when maintaining an installed supervisor arrangement rather than selecting a new switch generation. WS-C4507R corresponds to dual-supervisor deployments; WS-C4506 corresponds to single-supervisor legacy installations.
WS-C4510R offers ten chassis slots, compared with seven on WS-C4507R. Both are discontinued modular chassis, so the comparison is relevant to matching an existing installation rather than selecting a current replacement. WS-C4507R matches seven-slot systems; WS-C4510R matches legacy installations requiring the larger enclosure.
WS-C4507R is discontinued and passed its last date of support on July 31, 2015; C9407R is the current seven-slot Catalyst 9400 migration chassis. WS-C4507R fits maintenance of an existing legacy configuration, while C9407R is the migration starting point for a new chassis bill of materials.
WS-C4507R uses supervisor-provided uplinks rather than fixed chassis ports, with compatible WS-X45-SUP6L-E providing two 10G X2 interfaces. Select the supervisor and matching optical components together; the empty chassis does not include those interfaces or transceivers, and the supervisor configuration must be specified separately.
